  • With our first Garden Conservancy Open Days Tour coming in a week, we took a day to do all of the maintenance necessary to get the garden in tip top shape. What started out as a day of chores became a day of three trips to the garden center to add beautiful annuals and three stunning hydrangeas!
    We got a lot accomplished and we are very excited to welcome our first tour guests!

    Second, that leafblower tip for the fountain was clutch!

    That spray truly is disgusting, BUT you don't need much for it to train the critters to stay away and the next day the smell is gone. It even continues to work after a rain storm. A miracle in my gardening world! Continue to use it periodically each year & the animals will avoid your garden in the future. Best wishes on Sunday!

      Believe it or not that little bunny statue was in my grandmother's yard my entire life. So it's a little piece of my childhood...even though bunnies are evil. There's not too much more to my edging technique than that. Halfmoon edger to sculpt the line, loop hoe (or climbing on my hands and knees) to get the grass roots and weeds, electric edger or weedwacker to get the grass hanging over the edge, and then the rake to smoooooooooth it out!

    You guys have a splendid garden. Thanks for sharing it. A question - I deal with deer eating my plants. I know you have the large berm fronting the stream at the back of your property and all of those beautiful plantings along the back, but why not connect the two side fences with a fence along the back? I’m sure you’ve actively decided not to erect a fence along the back, but I just wonder why. You seem so cavalier in dealing with the plant losses. I guess I’m looking for a reason not to surround my property with a fence - I know it’s a tremendous cost for PVC fencing. The neighbors would certainly think me unfriendly, but it would be so much better for my head not to have to deal with the disappointment of browsed plants - daylilies especially when they take out any hope of bloom from an entire bed from just one feeding. I so enjoy your videos, thanks.

    • @growformegardening
      @growformegardening  Рік тому

      Honestly it was half the view and half the cost that kept us from doing the back fence. Yes the deer are bad but we are just taking things in stride. We will try some different sprays and be sure to plant things the deer aren’t fans of.

      You can dig them up, shake off the dirt from the roots, and put them in a big cardboard box or paper bags in a cool, dry location (I overwinter them in my basement). They will leaf out in the spring when you plant them. I have done this for years!
