I used to ride this coaster when it was still at Crystal Beach. Fond memories of going to CB when I lived in Buffalo. A great coaster that I am so glad to see is still in use. Thanks Robb Alvey for this video!
The Comet started its life at Crystal Beach in Ontario. Growing up in Buffalo it was a right of passage to ride the comet. The year my parents said I was old enough to ride I couldnt wait! Since then every time I rode it I would still get excited when it was climbing up the first big hill. Such a smooth coaster that never dissapoints. So glad ot got a new life in Lake George. Im in California now so probably Ill never see her again. Anyone that can ride the comet do so, its awesome
@Theme Park Review Thank you for the best front seat POV ride of The Comet on UA-cam! "Hello Mr. Comet, how are ya?" I say that line for you every time I'm on the ride!!
I have ridden more than 400 rollercoasters and this is one of the best ones I've ridden. It's in my top 20. This coaster is criminally underrated and is so fucking good.
My first coaster when it was in Crystal Beach Ontario, Canada. One day, my friends and I rode 50+ times in the day and got a button for doing it! Let the good times Roll!!!
I go to Great Eacape all the time coming from New York, and I ride the Comet all day when I'm there! Along with Steamin' Demon, and Boomerang, this roller coaster is the best!
I've been on a lot of wooden coasters, from Cedar Point to Six Flags Texas. And as much as I love my Kennywood Thunderbolt and Jackrabbit, this coaster takes the cake in my book. Phenomanal ! Best wooden coaster I have ever been on, bar none.
The video makes it look trivial, but what's unique about this one is you float over every hill. You'd probably still stay in the car without lap bars, it's perfectly balanced. My childhood coaster, but the park as a whole went downhill since Six Flags took over. Everything is too expensive and many of the other great rides are gone. Rotor, Skylab, mystery machine. The swings no longer tilt and the log flume no longer gets you wet.
One night over 40 years ago at an exclusive ride time after Crystal Beach had closed, they let us ride with the lap bars up. Best coaster experience of my life.
What put even more thrill in this ride when it was at Crystal Beach is that that first plunge was done with the lake just feet to the right of the ride.
I used to love that ride. I'm 50, in my 30's I ended up with back and neck pain from it for a few weeks. Havnt been able to ride it since. Doesn't help come to find out. I have spine issues, but I've rode this coaster about 30 times before that. It was from riding the front or ear car that hurt.
I LOOOOVE THE COMET! I like it because it’s one of the only coasters in six flags ny that doesn’t go upside down.(I have a HUGE fear of going upside down.😂😂. Yes I know. I’m a scaredy-cat.)
Rode this roller coaster in summer 1949 when I worked on sugared waffles. Rode it twice and decided not to ride again. Both times I hardly had the strength to hold on. I enjoyed taking the Canadiana across the lake from Buffalo and back on weekends. It was then I was introduced to Harlem Nocturne. That music made me feel happy.
Depressing.. The view is nothing of what it was at Crystal Beach. Always thought we were going to crash in the water. I miss you Comet & your Crystal Beach home :'(
i live in Chicago as a teen i lived in Indy so of course i am nowhere near this park however i remember some of my friends talking about how awesome this park is even though they never been to it themselves. i guess they heard about it from others or researched it. they were saying stuff like "omg! its the biggest amusement park in New York its sooo awesome!!" and of course not knowing better i was amazed too and wanted to go myself. Now that i know more about amusement parks then i did then, while this park still looks fun,its no this OMG WOW! place that my friends then were talking about...its weird lol. but yea for some reason i do remember people talking about how EPIC!!! this place was as if it was another Cedar Point Great Adventure or Magic Mountain.....nowadays i never hear anyone talk about this place.
It's gone down hill a lot within the past few years. They've taken out quite a few of the rides, and they say they are the cleanest park in the area but they really are not (I had to sit in dried puke the last time I went on one of their rides.)
I have a story Once, I brought my friend (she is now my step sister,) to go on this ride, when we fell down that big bump, she literally screamed her ass off, and passed out. This was October of 2017. She was scared shitless! She even pissed herself once when we went on it! But it was a great experience, I would like to go again! (This was at the same amusement park that they are showing in this video!)
I've been going to this park for YEARS, yet alone Lake George since I was born, never been on this ride, everything else in the park yes except the drop coaster and this
i love this roller coaster every time i go to the great escape i ride this coaster at least 3 or 4 times throughout the day, but the only thing is its a long wait
I think if wooden coasters are ever going to survive, this might be the way to go. steal frame wood style track. or something along these lines. what do you think?
This coaster was originally built as a twister for Crystal Beach Amusement Park on lake Erie in Canada. It was nasty, so bad they had a first aid station at the exit. People were to afraid to ride it. SO it got redesign to it's current configuration. They did a great job! I road this a s a teenager back in 1970. Still my favorite. So much air time! I was happy to see it rebuilt and live again.
It wasnt called the twister. An entirely different coaster that had nurses and first aid station at the exit was for that coaster. The comet was built to be smooth and balanced so riders would not be banged around
I'm going here this Saturday and I'm not sure if I should go on this roller coaster or not. Never been on a roller coaster and I want this to be my first but I'm a scaredy cat. Is this a good first roller coaster? Is it really fast?
Believe it or not but the first time I went on this last year the lap bar unlocked after the first drop!! I was in front row!! I held on for dear freaking life!! But I went on it three more times that day and it's a great coaster.
Rode at Crystal Beach in '81. Still way better than alot of the supposedly bigger is better coasters built in eighties/ninetys. gemini, Mean streak, Beast, Hercules.
Hands down my favorite wooden coaster of all time. Glad you guys enjoyed it too.
どうでもいいけど、わざわざ絡むような勢いでつっかかって何がしたいの?って。力関係を示してどうすんの?って。普通にあんたがたそれぞれ一人で頑張れば?ってことだろ。
Not just wooden
Same

this was my first coaster i ever rode on, i always tried to ride at least 2 to 4 times
Hands down, the best ride in the entire park!! I love the Comet!😄
@Theme Park Review Thank you for the best front seat POV ride of The Comet on UA-cam! "Hello Mr. Comet, how are ya?" I say that line for you every time I'm on the ride!!
This is a very under rated wooden coaster. I don't know why people don't talk about this coaster more. This was also my 100th coaster.
I rode the comet back in the late 70's early 80's. Must of taken a lot of work to take it down and reassemble it for use. Good job!
One of the best coasters, certainly the best wooden coaster I've been on.
This roller coaster is flippin awesome
I go to Great Eacape all the time coming from New York, and I ride the Comet all day when I'm there! Along with Steamin' Demon, and Boomerang, this roller coaster is the best!

I absolutely love the Comet! Thanks for sharing. ♥️
Went on this a lot with my dad when I was younger. Miss every second of it

“Hello Mr. Comet, how are you?!?” Lol
This brings back so much memories
This is the best ride at great escape trust me I go all the time lol
Brianna Rivecca ikr me too!
I love Great Escape's classic Comet!
It goes 55 MPH
This ride is criminally underated
Thanks for doing this , i know that the great escape is not really that popular on UA-cam ! So now i can see this ride yay
Growing up near TGE, I imagined all wooden coasters were like the comet. Man, was I wrong. Comet remains the only wooden coaster I can bear to ride.
I know this is my home with many records to come
I live about a 1hr and 20 mins from the great excape and I was on this roller coaster last summer
Nice video - very well done! Thanks!
That last corner always gets me
Yes! This is one of the best coasters in the world.
another bucket list coaster!
looks SO MUCH FUN!
HOLY SHEEEEETTTT
That was my first roller coaster ever! UGG! I wanna go to that place so much rite now
I love The Comet! I go to The Great Escape every year! This ride and the Cannon Blaster!
Oh this looks awesome! Shame this is many hours north of me, but it may make a great stop along a northeast road trip!
I love the comet one of the wildest coasters I have been on
one the best wooden coasters I've ridden, it love it
Dalton Wike
YES ME TOOOOOOOOOO
Go to wildwood nJ
The one there is really cool you go under the broad walk
This is one of the best rides I've ever been in, we were there few days ago (we're visiting in America) and I want to this three times
Seems very similar The Phoenix. Looks awesome!
I LOOOOVE THE COMET! I like it because it’s one of the only coasters in six flags ny that doesn’t go upside down.(I have a HUGE fear of going upside down.😂😂. Yes I know. I’m a scaredy-cat.)
The craziness, fastest, bumpiest wooden roller coaster in NY
Rode this roller coaster in summer 1949 when I worked on sugared waffles. Rode it twice and decided not to ride again. Both times I hardly had the strength to hold on. I enjoyed taking the Canadiana across the lake from Buffalo and back on weekends. It was then I was introduced to Harlem Nocturne. That music made me feel happy.
Sugar waffles! Kellys country store in Grand Island sells original crystal beach sugar waffles. Almost cried when I saw them lol
I went on it for it's first run of the 2014 season. Hands down my favorite coaster!
The Comet is definitely my favorite ride of all time. Once, there was barely anyone in the park and I went on it so many times that I lost count.
Can't beat the classics
The commentary is goated
I rode this roller coaster at the Great Escape in NY and almost shit myself LMAO.
I went on it and when I saw the photo all of our heads were screaming shitlessly or red head
And the restraints are SCARY
Same. Its terrifying but its awesome 😂👍
I’ve rode this ride so much but it’s still thrilling and fun. 😊
The great escape is next to Martha’s ice cream and the water park wave pool on the right
Depressing.. The view is nothing of what it was at Crystal Beach. Always thought we were going to crash in the water. I miss you Comet & your Crystal Beach home :'(
I live 30 minutes from here. It’s super fun
i live in Chicago as a teen i lived in Indy so of course i am nowhere near this park however i remember some of my friends talking about how awesome this park is even though they never been to it themselves. i guess they heard about it from others or researched it. they were saying stuff like "omg! its the biggest amusement park in New York its sooo awesome!!" and of course not knowing better i was amazed too and wanted to go myself. I love this ride :)
I have a story

It's a classic!
I ride the comet all the time at great escape
Is this the same Comet they used in the movie "Rollercoaster" that the guy made crash at the beginning of the movie?
You know a coaster is good when the guys at TPR say it's good!
I'm going here this Saturday and I'm not sure if I should go on this roller coaster or not. Never been on a roller coaster and I want this to be my first but I'm a scaredy cat. Is this a good first roller coaster? Is it really fast?
zelda lover I know its late but that is literally my favoriate coaster ever. Go on it.
1;53 YAY the ride stopped in the middle of nowhere! How mamy beers had u had by this point?
@themeparkreviewTPR What Is Your Requirement To Get This Job/Hobby?
im bout 2 go there tmm cause i live in Albany ny
Any particular reason why some of the commentary is taken from The Yankee Canonball vid?
The bit before the lift reminds me a little bit of the crystal beach cyclone...
I mean, this coaster is basically a conversion of the crystal beach cyclone. Some parts of the cyclone were used to build the comet.
how do you get all these people to clap and cheer before the rollercoaster starts? cause when I go on I never hear people clap or cheer xD
I went on here a week ago it for my first time it was cool
I for real did that when I was on the ride
Believe it or not but the first time I went on this last year the lap bar unlocked after the first drop!! I was in front row!! I held on for dear freaking life!! But I went on it three more times that day and it's a great coaster.
This was my first coaster
I -3 it!!
I'd love to ride this.
This was my first ever real roller coaster and I loved it and went on around 8 times and almost you know pooped myself the first time
Rode at Crystal Beach in '81. Still way better than alot of the supposedly bigger is better coasters built in eighties/ninetys. gemini, Mean streak, Beast, Hercules.
The layout kinda reminds me of Phoenix.
They definitely aren't the same, but share similarities.
"I haven't done it in the back before."
Do you play Roller Coaster tycoon 3?
I went on this with my friend and I couldn’t be more scares
Six Flags Great Escape isn't good enough for this classic
It seems like Comet is a popular name for rides.
I love this ride it is my fa. and ikt is not scary 😻😻😻😻😻
July 9 I'm going comets amazing
I love the Airtime Brakes lol
