Got to level 4 and top rated seller on eBay selling from my home and have been using your tips. Thanks for the videos. Also any chance for a video on taxes and how to keep track of it all?
Make a 2nd bank account and have the tax funds directly put into that account after each sale and don't touch it use it to pay your taxes at the end of the year.
Congrats on the success. Your cuts in time spent doing work have definitely paid off. Not too often you hear about a profit during the 1st year especially with an LGS. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations on your first year of business, these videos you've been making are so good, very informative and helpful. I'm a couple of months away to my first year but I don't touch MTG, margins aren't worthwhile in my country. I'm still figuring out how to make MTG work better and to do singles like yourself. Keep up the amazing work buddy!
Some stores here make big money on drafts. My local store stopped doing drafts, so I went to one a few towns away. It was $35 for a standard draft, there were 24 players, and I got first place and won 3 promo packs... This was for All Will be One, so costs were less at the time. I was amazed that so many players we willing to go to such and overpriced, and underprized event. The dude got paid $840 for 2 boxes of product that he was selling for $125 each, not to mention how much pop, sleeves, and extra product he sold during that time. I know I bought sleeves, snacks, and over $100 worth of product on top of my draft cost.
I was guessed 500k before watching. Pretty alright for a first year. We did about half that in our first year. But I give ourselves a break being we're in a super rural town with another card shop literally across the street. Congrats man! Keep it up!!
Thanks for all the info Rob! I started a little over a year ago and I'm hoping to build it into a 7 figure business within the next 5 years. I'll definitely be keeping an ear open for any advice from you moving forward.
Thanks for the videos and congrats, you deserve it FOR SURE! You may have said this in another video but I’ve yet to make my way through all of them (I plan to!), how do you sort/store the bulk cards for online sale?
Great video! Loved hearing about how you run your cardshop and it's very impressive how well it seems to be turning out. Big congrats to you my friend!
Keep up the amazing work man. I'm happy for you! Your videos are such an inspiration to me and im sure many others. I hope you prosper beyond your imagination and continue to produce these videos for us to enjoy, disect and study. As my deadline for opening my shop in the next month comes closer its always nice seeing someone see light at the end of their tunnel. To another successful year! Nick from Prism CCG (changed from paso ccg) Prism just sounds so much more catchy haha)
I started grinding tcgplayer a couple weeks ago and came across your videos! glad to see the grind has paid off. I was wondering if you could maybe give some insight on when you start adding tracking to your sales? how often do you get ripped off by a customer/have it lost in the mail? Is the secret not putting middle of the road cards (like 15-30 dollars) on these websites with commission due to tracking costs? edit: i also just got accepted to pro! any tips to really take advantage of the perks?
There is nothing that you can do if people want to rip you off they will. I only put tracking on orders over $20 I would say use the reprice software it’s great, the buy list is a great feature as well
For someone with the money, skillset and work ethic I consider you insane for doing this :) you could easely get a 6 figure a year net by doing something else!
I was rewatching your guide on how to ship products properly and noticed you mentioned that if you buy envelopes correctly, they should be 1 cent or less. Would you mind sharing how to do this? Right now, I'm spending around 3-4 cents per envelope so this would be a big help
@@rng-gamez Awesome, thank you so much! Like I had mentioned in an earlier comment, your videos have been an amazing help for me, someone who is just starting out on everything. Always looking to learn and your content has been a lifesaver!!!
Hey congratulations on reaching 1 year of the store! I hope you continue to grow and continue to run a successful shop. I have been watching your videos for a while now and really enjoy them. I myself am really into Trading Cards and have teetered with the idea for years about starting my own shop or online shop. And while I know I may be reaching here in asking… how the heck do you even start? How do you acquire bulk? Is it from people selling their collections? Random lots? I just don’t get how to start acquiring the bulk to start selling. I have a lot of questions but the ones question that is hard to get answered are these ones.
Basically just start opening packs look for deals on eBay for sealed. Any set box under 105 is basically a good range now because that’s as close to wholesale as possible
some of your prices on the website are a little overprices compared to almost any other place which is crazy if its selling good. 400 for collectors fall-out can grab those for 300-320 local or online other places >? How do you decide on pricing. not trying to trash talk just curious brother im happy your store is running and your enjoying it happy for you.
I’m sorry but it’s hard to reply I get a lot of store opening related questions that I can’t reply to since Facebook is saved for my actual store. You can ask those questions on Patreon
My Wife and I started our shop with $5000 cash, a $10,000 Credit Card and an Epic $#!T Ton of support from the Community! Start with the community first!
Great video!! So are the most sales from your store ? Or would you say 60 percent online and 40 percent store. Because I think you skipped over that part
With wotc allowing proxies for commander players how are you handling this? I notice locally where I am many commander players at our wpn lgs store have sold there collections and are just proxiing up whole decks since commander is not sanctioned or tournament. My lgs owner wrote to wotc what to do about this he closed his buy list on commander cards only standard singles. This all thanks to magic 30th proxies.
I don’t see anyone selling their entire deck to just proxy, people like that their collections have value the 30th set will do nothing to the value of any cards that are printed in that set. If they shut down buylist they must not do a lot of sales online. I can’t keep most commander staples in stock.
What are your thoughts on margins Vs volume? I’m sure there is a balance but I know another person with a similar model In my area who would sell something for like 150+tax and i would be selling at 145 all in. Our distributor costs are likely the same. Is volume more important than margins? Or am I just short changing myself?
Volume is way more work but you are able to make more selling more. I bet you people go out of their way to come to your shop. Even if it saves them only $5
If your not LLC your doing it wrong as former irs agent. If your LLC your end of the year is October. If you doing this on personal irs form if you go belly up the IRS can go after personal assets. House, other assets worth any kind of money. Protect your self. Same with lawsuits.
I think you really are missing the point for stores that focus on instore events. When you build a community and they know that you are going to be running great events you continue to build a place where you are getting people coming into your store to buy singles to have decks ready for the events. The margins are much higher so you can have an overall lower gross sales amount. I do think when it comes to online sales you are right on the money. I feel that when it comes to instore sales and events you are missing a huge opportunity.
Congratulations Rob on the first year! Here's to as many more as you want to do it :D

Get an accountant is my only advice. It’s hard to keep track of.

Big congrats, man! I've been taking a ton of your advice and integrating it into my online store. Your content is always fresh and top notch.

Do you ever coach or help people start up their card shops? How did you learn so fast because that’s amazing for the first year?
A lot of trial and error and a lot of money lost lol

as long as its for the business , yea

Costco has them 500 for 11.99 often, you have to stock up when they have them
So I get them for about .02

Buy a shipping printer to print your orders and labels for your shipments about a penny per print.
