huh, you guys are the lucky ones ! I don't have even the chance or ever really had, to become a fighter pilot... Due to my stupid ears... (changes in pressure give me Otitis very quickly..almost always, so i do an operation where they put small tubes into my ears so that air can pass through.) So you see, when you'll be older, and thinking back of how great it was to fly and how much you miss it...Think of somebody as unlucky as me.... i never ever got the chance to fly in such an amazing piece of technology by myself.. Well, anyways even though i never flew in a fighter jet, i get the idea of how it might be.... "wow.." Anyways, my passion is now redirected to Astrophysics and classic Physics, which is something that i love, as it explains so much of everything (thanks to Math !)..
Don't worry man, I have similar experience, but not a healthy problem, just my father advised me seriously not to go to pilots school as I am Libyan, and the faith of pilots is just for a dictator regime, not for the country, and it was incredibly disappointed for me.
I liked the bit where Tom Cruise thanked the audience. That was respectful. You made the effort to do a good job for us. Thanks Mr. Cruise, the team, and Defenders of our Republic.
I always play this in honour of the father I never knew. He lost his life in WW2 three months before I was born. He flew with the RAF "Pathfinders Squadron" in Lancaster bombers. His position on the aircraft was Mid Upper Gunner or as I would prefer: "Top Gun". He gave his life on the way back from a mission over enemy territory. His aircraft was badly hit by gunfire from the ground and only just made it back to base in England, my father alas, did not. So here's to my very own "Top Gun"!!
God, when this kicked in at the start of Maverick, it was suddenly 1988 again and I was 6 years old back when I first saw the original. No movie has done that for me since maybe the first Star Wars prequel.
I took my grandson to the cinema to see Maverick for his birthday treat I had tears rolling down my cheeks when I was watching the opening with this score from the original, I was transported straight back to the mid eighties, it was truly a transcendental experience I’m British, they’d scrapped the Ark Royal by this time and my eyesight and academic ability wasn’t good enough for aircrew but I’d loved to have been the “Shooter” on the carrier deck, I’d settle for that

Best opening sequence of any movie ever. The lighting. The sounds. Set the tone right off the start. And this song really tied it together. Goosebumps every time. And this thumbnail pic, truely an epic shot.
I am thoroughly impressed with the updated version of this track from TG: Maverick. It still invokes the same sense of awe and wonder that you get when you think of flying high, but adds that little extra "je ne sais quoi" to it
Just watched it in the cinema. It really was quite emotional hearing this at the start. Fantastic 👏 Tom Cruise should be very proud as should everyone involved. Bravo!
Not ahead of it's time. Absolute right time else it would have been superseded by others. Those planes will be history pretty soon, taken over by something computer controlled maybe or drones, and those actors , you can't replace them, they made the movie what it is or was. Brilliant move with awesome music
Still one of my favorite themes. Especially love how it's basically drums and synth at the start, and then throughout the film whenever it plays it adds another instrument or two and then by the end when Mav and Ice are friendly, it's the full effect and you're just in it.
Get realistic. Whatever you are doing, you can only go so fast for so long, be it little wankers driving piss-fart shitty little F1 racing cars, HUGE, and I mean HUGE FUCKING WANKERS dressed up in lovely coloured multiple-badged outfits colouring themselves in multiple badged clown outfits. THE BEST IS YET TO COME. Pilots. Good God almighty, with all their overalls, uniforms, badges, Chanel 5 scented bullshit advertisements, and whatever else, Jesus H. Christ, (!). worthless arseholes!!.,
I Love the movie, love the, now retired, F-14, and Navy pilots can do what most other combat pilots can't or won't, but I view the first few minutes up the actual launch as a tribute to the deck crews who do their job to get the pilots into the air in a timely, safe manner, so they can do 'their' job.
Man, those bells - chills everytime. Can't help but wonder: why do we feel goosebumps once we hear that unmistakable bell sound? Why did Harold choose the bell over countless other mundane sounds when composing this track? I mean, you name it: cricket sounds, water splashing, an engine backfiring, etc...why not any of these sounds? Here's my theory: going back to our earliest memories as kids, we associate the bell sound as a reminder of time. We hear the bells on churches (not all but some) every top of the hour, telling us the exact time. Bells were used to remind students at schools they better hurry or they'll be late. Bells remind us what time it is. To tie that into the movie, we know the movie is all about fighter jets & being patriotic, being American, etc. The bells tap into our feelings of patriotism by reminding us 'it's the time of reckoning' or 'it's time to face your destiny' or 'it's time to defend your nation', etc. When you mix excitement & testosterone with patriotism, the result could be the 'chills' sensation that most of us feel. BTW, i also get chills when i hear The Undertaker's original entrance bell sounds, not sure why. I mean, there's no feelings of patriotism involved with him, why do i get the chills then?
Great opening to a great movie..I was 20 years old when this movie came out and I was in the United States Navy And im proud to have served this great country for 8 years
Certainly worked out well for the US Navy, as the movie resulted in a massive surge of recruitment; they even had recruiting booths in the theaters from what I understand.
when i was gifted the Top Gun soundtrack on tape back in the 80s i immediately fast forward to Faltermeyers Top Gun Anthem thinking it would be the opening credits theme but was disappointed it had the rock guitar over it
This is everything great about composing. It captures it all. The sleeping giant of an aircraft carrier waking at dawn; the dissonance of mechanical equipment; the tolling bell of fate and power. The threat and force within such a military machine..and the increasing heartbeat of rising tension. It's genius.
I really miss the magic of movie soundtracks nowadays... I man don't get me wrong, Hans Zimmer etc. are doing a great job, but everytime I hear a soundtrack it comes to my mind that they TRY to get more epic, get more stuff in... This soundtrack is basically a synthesizer and an electrical guitar. And it brought us one of the most epic soundtracks ever made.
Absolutely. Sometimes it's the simple things that are beautiful. Some classic tunes from the 17th century never get old, for example. You don't have to re-invent the wheel all the time...
B20C0 Harold is a much better musician than Hans to me. Less bombastic, but more intricate harmonics even with simple songs. Just for my personal taste.
*Just a few tiny news:* I checked the status of the video very often and now, the original owners have decided to NOT simply take it down or geo-restrict it. Sure: They get the revenues of ads and since I mentioned I won't get a single cent of it, i really appreciate the step. This is the correct and honorable way to say: "Hey, this is not yours, but we like the way you do. Let's shake hands and let the video for the masses untouched!". There are still people out, knowing how to act human. Huge thanks again and greetings to Hollywood.
Hey claymore did you know theres gonna be top gun 2? This year ALL THE FANS WHEN CRAZY And also this music played in the top gun 2 trailer go watch it it,s pretty cool?
You mean Paramount? They dont care about a song that was taken from the video like this. Its missing the background plane track, plus its not the same as the soundtrack version so YT scannes dont know anything about this. It does appear like edited work, which might fall into quasi-fair use. Same as if you edit a regular song enough, and then post it. Chances are it wont be flagged.
Leevi Hinkkala and it starts off the same as the movie 3 tones at the start all it's missing is the plane track and that is not really "music" it's a plane making a sound. now shut up so i can listen to this.

The video keeps being online for the masses and this was the only intention I had. And thanks to this act, this guarantees it. I'm no pilot, but every time I'm in my garage, standing next to my Harley putting my gear on and preparing to take it out for a ride, I'm playing this song on my motorcycles stereo system. Danger Zone comes on next as I'm cranking it up, and then I'm off chasing the sunset!
What can I say? I’m 42 years old and this song still makes me wanna fight for our beautiful country. God bless America! Even though we’ve done a lot of shitty things in the past I still believe we’re the greatest nation on earth.
If any of you are in San Diego visit the Kansas City Barbeque. Its where the bar scene from the original Top Gun was shot.Lots of cool memorabilia and they play the movie endless times.
Thanks for the upload. This is exactly what I was looking for: one of the greatest instrumental intros ever in pop music for one of the greatest opening scene in movie history (and the rest of the soundtrack is amazing). I just saw _Top Gun: Maverick_ and the magic is still there.
Best music I have heard at any cinema , I went to original top gun when it came out . At the end of the film , everyone gave it a standing ovation in the Edinburgh cinema .
I wouldn't set the bar high on this one. Sure the trailer looked great but Tony Scott is long gone and the director filling his shoes probably went to the safest route by doing the exact same movie.
I'm going to go into it with as open a mind as I can, but it's already missing two elements that made it what it was: Tony Scott and Don Simpson. The new director's resume is less than inspiring as well; the only movie he's had that could be considered a hit was his first, "Tron Legacy." I'm of the mind that Paramount should have just stopped after Tony Scott killed himself, but since they're doing it anyway, I'll give it a shot; I'll just go to the matinee showing...
Probably one of the best movies made. It's a shame that movies today can't compare. This piece takes me back to when I was in the Royal Canadian Air Cadets. We must have listened to the top gun anthem a dozen times on the way home from winning our first provincial drill competition. Good times.
When I was about 6 or 7, I witnessed an F-14 Tomcat go down about a half mile from my house. The pilots were performing an areal display at Willow Grove NAS JRB (now Horsham Air Guard) for the annual air show. They lost control and couldn't pull up in time and they intentionally avoided a block of homes that would have easily gone up in flames. The pilots died on impact and any time I pass that road this song rings out in my head. Those pilots died with honor and took their own lives to make sure they didn't hit those houses.
Thanks a lot for sharing!!! From the top of my 45 years of my miserable existance I was able to give an arm and a leg to get this version of Top Gun Anthem.

huh, you guys are the lucky ones !
"wow.."
Anyways, my passion is now redirected to Astrophysics and classic Physics, which is something that i love, as it explains so much of everything (thanks to Math !)..
Don't worry man, I have similar experience, but not a healthy problem, just my father advised me seriously not to go to pilots school as I am Libyan, and the faith of pilots is just for a dictator regime, not for the country, and it was incredibly disappointed for me.
I am not a fighter pilot, but rather a civilian private pilot (PPL). The passion of aviation runs deep in all pilots!
Shit man, if not joining the Libyan AF you could immigrate and join another democratic country's Air Forces.
I liked the bit where Tom Cruise thanked the audience. That was respectful. You made the effort to do a good job for us. Thanks Mr. Cruise, the team, and Defenders of our Republic.
Has to be one of the most iconic openings to any of the 80’s films.. The F14 is a stunning looking aircraft... 👍
Saw Maverick yesterday. Got chills when this track played in the beginning. Easily one of the best sequels I have ever seen!
There was no way Tom Cruise or any of the directors could have known how amazing this theme music would be. Movie and music magic.
LOVED IT. The film gave the nostalgia and the simplicity of classic story telling was on point.
The 80s has the coolest and the most distinguished music than any other decade!
I took my grandson to the cinema to see Maverick for his birthday treat
I had tears rolling down my cheeks when I was watching the opening with this score from the original, I was transported straight back to the mid eighties, it was truly a transcendental experience
I’m British, they’d scrapped the Ark Royal by this time and my eyesight and academic ability wasn’t good enough for aircrew but I’d loved to have been the “Shooter” on the carrier deck, I’d settle for that
The 80's, what a time to be alive!
On March 3, 1969 the United States Navy established an elite school for the top one percent of its pilots. Its purpose was to teach the lost art of aerial combat and to insure that the handful of men who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world.
They succeeded.
Today, the Navy calls it fighter weapons school. The flyers call it:
TOP GUN.
"The best fighter pilots in the world"? That's a cocky 'we are the center of the world' mentality don't you reckon?
Watch the movie intro again.
TOPGUN* Still bothers me that they got the name of the NFWS wrong in the title...
Brandon Bryant One intro...one movie. Its called TOP GUN!!!! EPIC.
arnabdas56 Do you even know where Aboriginals are from? I guess you don't. I'll give you a hint - they are NOT from New Zealand you ignorant stupid hick. Furthermore, New Zealand is not part of Australia and vice-versa. I can also tell that you're of Asian decent because your English is not so good... Once you learn some history and geography, then come back to me with some intellectual responses.
I don’t care how old the F14 is but it’s the sexiest bird EVER!!
Reject modernity, embrace tradition
Damn straight. There's just some planes that never lose their appeal no matter how old they are, like the F-14 Tomcat and the P-51 Mustang.
I give you the F-111
@@DJP-ph7yj The F-14 is everything the F-111 wishes it could have been.
Best opening sequence of any movie ever. The lighting. The sounds. Set the tone right off the start. And this song really tied it together. Goosebumps every time. And this thumbnail pic, truely an epic shot.
When I heard this in Top Gun Maverick at the beginning of movie.....wowww no words!!! Amazing, incredible, epic!!!
It took me 30 years to find THIS version of Top Gun Anthem! I wish it was included on the Soundtrack.
Same here. Legit listening to it en route to see the sequel right now
@@KenzieRetro soooooooooooooo good!!!! You gonna love it!
The F-14 was a beautiful aircraft. I know they retired her, but she still flies in my memories.
i agree
she still flies in Iran...
There are two fighters that are romanticized ... the P-51 and the F-14. They maybe old but still sexy AF
@@NiTeHaWKnz Looks like both the Mustang and the Tomcat will be in the new movie!
I bet a lot of pilots and RIO's got drunk the day that this lady was finally retired.. What a beautiful plane..
The only movie where I just can't stop myself from going back to the cinema to rewatch it over and over
I am thoroughly impressed with the updated version of this track from TG: Maverick. It still invokes the same sense of awe and wonder that you get when you think of flying high, but adds that little extra "je ne sais quoi" to it
I can honestly say this is the greatest film of the past 40 years as far as believability, emotions, and plot line go. Its flawless.
Just watched it in the cinema. It really was quite emotional hearing this at the start. Fantastic 👏 Tom Cruise should be very proud as should everyone involved. Bravo!
How can anyone possibly dislike this song? Unbelievable.
Taliban and ISIS users...SMH!
It's easy to explain the dislikes : morons have always existed and they always will.
They are dicks
This movie was, is, and always will be frickin' epic!
100% agreed
The best movie with Tom Cruise
Cult-classic. One of the most well-executed movies. Great soundtrack, amazing action sequences, well ahead of its time. No other movie like it today.
Russell Crawley Tom cruise confirm that they talking about making another top gun, they are discussing it
Not ahead of it's time.
That iconic bell never gets old. Can’t wait for Top Gun maverick
Loved how they had the somber reprise of this theme in the trailer.
Christ, (!). worthless arseholes!!.,
Absolute classic. If like me you grew up in the 80s this brings back memories !! ... Top Gun inspired me to enrol in the airforce after school :)
This version is so chilled out without the guitar, I like listening to this when I'm relaxing
Great opening to a great movie..I was 20 years old when this movie came out and I was in the United States Navy And im proud to have served this great country for 8 years
If I had a dollar for every young boy who wanted to be a fighter pilot after seeing Top Gun, I'd be rich!
right here!
Certainly worked out well for the US Navy, as the movie resulted in a massive surge of recruitment; they even had recruiting booths in the theaters from what I understand.
Right from the intro I was running around with the vaccum cleaner hose acting like i was the refueler
@@tb504david Still to this day when I warm up my car I go: SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH to simulate the planes getting ready for take off lol
@@Orca19904 it contributed to a 500% increase for US navy recruitment which is crazy
I prefer this version over the one with guitar in it. The guitar one is cool but this one is more of my style.
Same!
when i was gifted the Top Gun soundtrack on tape back in the 80s i immediately fast forward to Faltermeyers Top Gun Anthem thinking it would be the opening credits theme but was disappointed it had the rock guitar over it
Those dislikes are actually inverted likes.
Lol they were inverted
They were flying in their cockpits upside down, so it seemed only fitting.
miyalys Or they were australian
Copied
Icemen!!!!!!
I watched Top Gun, after already having developed an appreciation for aviation and aeronautics so this was not a movie, it was an experience.
The first, " TopGun" was the best movie ever.
A musical masterpiece.
This is everything great about composing. It captures it all. The sleeping giant of an aircraft carrier waking at dawn; the dissonance of mechanical equipment; the tolling bell of fate and power. The threat and force within such a military machine..and the increasing heartbeat of rising tension. It's genius.
Someone put this into words finally!
Wow. This put a massive grin on my face listening to that intro.
Man, I really miss the 80s :'(
May 24, 2022, the day when thousands will (re)discover this awesome piece.
This bell…Lt Pete Mitchell…and his F14…is far beyond being a fighter pilot…Thank you Tom Cruise…you made a whole generation vibe and dream…
@@Rondo2ooo It'll be interesting to see how well they mesh on "Top Gun: Maverick." I'm surprised Harold came out of retirement for it.
*Slider* "Crash and burn, huh Mav?"
*Maverick* "Slider... *sniffs* ...you stink."
Ive searched so much for this video and never found it you are a blessing🙏🏻
Ads might appear on your video.Copyrighted content was found in your video. The claimant is allowing their content to be used in your UA-cam video. However, ads might appear on it.
VIEWING RESTRICTIONS NONE
MONETIZATION MONETIZED BY CLAIMANT
Know... they found it. They claimed their rights. And I'm simply totally fine with it. The video keeps being online for the masses and this was the only intention I had. And thanks to this act, this guarantees it. And yes: They could have simply strike it, restrict it for US only, mute it, whatever. But they didn't. Again: Act of honor.
There is no other bird like the F-14 Tomcat!
There is Mig-29 ;) even better
After the movie came out the causality and accident rate of F-14 squadrons soared.
THEY KEPT IN THE NEW MAVERICK MOVIE ALSO😭😭 THE FIRST 2 MINS WERE A RIDE OF PURE NOSTALGIA
I'm no pilot, but every time I'm in my garage, standing next to my Harley putting my gear on and preparing to take it out for a ride, I'm playing this song on my motorcycles stereo system. Danger Zone comes on next as I'm cranking it up, and then I'm off chasing the sunset!
Tom can be SO proud of his role in that cult movie. Nobody could do it any better.
I just love this still frame of Tom Cruise in the shadow, with the fighter jet in the background playing along with this theme song. Awesome!
I would never even have thought of this version if I hadn't heard it. Thanks. The opening bars as it's brooding it are amazing.
Thanks for the upload. This is exactly what I was looking for: one of the greatest instrumental intros ever in pop music for one of the greatest opening scene in movie history (and the rest of the soundtrack is amazing).
I just saw _Top Gun: Maverick_ and the magic is still there.
What i love so much about this pic is the tomcat looks like a hawk. A real flying, manmade predator.
also looks like a cat with the ears back ready to fight
Agreed
Best music I have heard at any cinema , I went to original top gun when it came out .
At the end of the film , everyone gave it a standing ovation in the Edinburgh cinema .
All my most memorable cinema experiences happened in the 1980s. This was one of them.
I LOVE THIS SONG SO MUCH OMFG ISTG ITS MY LIFE BC OF TOM CRUISE I STARTED LOOKING FOR PIOLET LESSONS AND IM SO EXCITED
Hopefully Top Gun Maverick doesn't disappoint. Those F/A-18 shots looked awesome!
I wouldn't set the bar high on this one. Sure the trailer looked great but Tony Scott is long gone and the director filling his shoes probably went to the safest route by doing the exact same movie.
No F-18 looks Not so nice but F-14 is so Beautiful!!!!!! I Love it
@@jonmar4683 Probably, but maybe they surprise us. Anyway, better to go in the footsteps of the first movie than to make some modern PC shit.
I'm going to go into it with as open a mind as I can, but it's already missing two elements that made it what it was: Tony Scott and Don Simpson. The new director's resume is less than inspiring as well; the only movie he's had that could be considered a hit was his first, "Tron Legacy."
I'm of the mind that Paramount should have just stopped after Tony Scott killed himself, but since they're doing it anyway, I'll give it a shot; I'll just go to the matinee showing...
@@cubdukat Tony Scott killed himself? May I ask the reason why?

Recently watched the 4K HDR version of Top Gun. Amazing! Curious to see its sequel in the cinema, I was barely 7 years old when Top Gun was released.
Disney has lost its magic. They need to take notes from paramount as they definitely know how to make a 21st century film feel like the 80's
Let’s hope Transformers: Rise of the Beasts can really feel like the 80’s, even though the movie takes place in 1990.
Yeah, Disney definitely lost its magic, they need to learn from Dreamworks, Illumination, and Universal.

A true pilot legacy is; To live with pride ,to die with honor.
