Beam Detector Live Smoke Test

  • Had a 3 story atrium where the AHJ called into question the location of our beam detectors in each atrium. To prove that the location would work we conducted a live smoke test using smoke candles and heat lamps (since the smoke is "cold" it typically rises slower, the lamps work to counter act that and simulate the heat of a real fire as close as we can).
    The beam detector is located in the hole near the top of the atrium and is shooting across the center gap, look for the dark circle on the wall near the highest point of the building.
    The beam detector activated in around 1 minute and 40 seconds. We had the notification devices disabled since we had already done that part of the testing on a previous visit.
