I actually loved how you guys heard ALL elements of music you relate to, in Amapiano. Amapiano is basically an evolution of the same House music known globally (with all its various sub-genres, early days I recall people saying "yanos' was slow jazzy house, before the amapiano lyrics era). House Music (with major American pioneers like Kenny Dope, Frankie Knuckles, Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer, and other pioneers from other continents) has ALWAYS been a mainstay for decades, so that sound got infused into a lot of newer genres (amongst many others): Kwaito Afro House Barcadi Gqom Amapiano Hip-Hop, House, EDM, Afrobeats, Kwassa kwassa, Jazz, Funk... Have all influenced these genres in their own way!
The reason why he said "Amapiano in reference of isiZulu means the pianos" is because the Ama in Amapiano is derived from the isiZulu language, well and other nguni languages like isiXhosa, isiSwati and, isiNdebele but most people will refer to it being an isiZulu word because most people from other countries who don't know much about South Africa are familiar with the language isiZulu. And the genre wasn't started by Zulu people.
Interesting. I heard of a South African called Kabza DE Small who apparently started it but on Google it says it originated from a place called Nongoma Can you please explain
