That contrast you describe is what makes the nyckelharpa so appealing. The tones emanating from it seem to convey multiple languages and overlapping emotions simultaneously.
What a magical instrument. It's sound is so archaic and almost mystical, but the way the keys are operated gives the notes a sort of built-in punctuation that lends a sense of mechanical precision. I love to hear the telltale sound of the artists fingers working so furiously; it's like watching a spider weave a complicated web.
Marvellous ! We don't know this instrument. We've seen it in "Lozère" a region from France last week. You are great ! Please continue playing music with this instrument :)
The tone of the nyckelharpa reminds me of the sound of early-modern instruments in the cello family like the viol de gamba. Interesting...and sounds well.
Hagel Thomas Roth !
Hagel Gabi Maas!!
This wonderful music is the gentle sound of Norway, Land of the Midnight Sun; and, is so beautiful it makes you want to cry. When catching a falling leaf; and, then making a joyful wish; that wish will be to hear this nyckelharpa as the fireflies dance and the moon rises.
Actually, the first song is a slängpolska, which is a type of dance from Sweden and the second tune is a traditional song called Fager som en ros, which is also from Sweden ;)
Ooh! Very nice! I have a nyckelharpa by the same builder, built in 1998. Out of curiosity, is your lowest string prone to extra 'noise' when played with a strong attack (the noise sounds a lot like the buzzing of the "trumpet/dog" of a hurdy-gurdy)? Mine tends to give a loud buzz then, but I consider that more a feature than a "bug" so I haven't changed the bridge. ;)
Hi Kasha, yes mine does the same but I also like it - since the drone string gets used so little I think it's good for it to have character when it does! Thanks for the comment and I'd be interested to hear yours sometime. Gabi
nice playing. cool first tune, which i'd never heard, be great at dance tempo! much better audio than most outdoor youtube, video would be more enjoyable if she'd slow down a bit and stop wiggling; pans right past Perfect framing several times.
I really want to learn how to play this instrument. I've been completely enchanted for a while now. Where could I find one and how can I learn to play?
+Xya Leovich Eh... sorry for the late answer, I actually wrote something down for you but apparently my post got deleted?! I can't help you so much because I don't live in the USA, but your best bet is probably to get in contact with the American Nyckelharpa Association! (google them, I posted the link to their website the last time, maybe my post got deleted because of that....)
Hi Regina, thanks! I've been playing nyckelharpa for two years, and violin since I was little. Sound production is very different on the harpa (and your left hand has to move in the opposite direction!) but on the whole I'd say it's a fairly natural transition.
I play the violin too but I'm not very good. I also play the piano so this seemed like a great instrument for me. I was blown away when I saw how much they cost though! So, I guess I'll have to wait. But I can enjoy your playing. Thanks for posting and replying!
Hi there, I don't have a name for it. I picked it up from a piece of sheet music given to me by a friend where it was simply marked 'C-moll Polska', and have never heard it anywhere else!
Magnifique ! le décor, la musique , la Nyckelharpa et la musicienne ...!!
I can't explain why but I just love the sound of this instrument. Like.. it's somehow harsh and soft at the same time.
That contrast you describe is what makes the nyckelharpa so appealing. The tones emanating from it seem to convey multiple languages and overlapping emotions simultaneously.

And it sounds a bit icy. I love the sound of it. It has this nordish tone to it that i adore.

I want a Nyckelharpa so badly...
Check Blocket.se, it's like a Swedish eBay and they sell Nyckelharpas starting from prices as low as $300,-
@@OurMagicalNature Thank you so much!!!
How beautiful. . .
I can't stop listening~ :) I would really love to own a Nyckelharpa but I doubt I could teach myself how to play :(
Try one if you get the chance, they're not (quite) as complicated as they look! Glad you liked the video. Gabi
I'm here because of Grizzly hills

The songs are swedish and the instrument is the national instrument of Sweden.
Hey, look over there! No wait, look back over there! No wait...
Nicely played!
Thanks Mr F!
Is there a website where I can have music sheets of swedish music? Something like thesession (which this one is only for Irish music).
+Funes -kvn There's folkwiki.se but it is nowhere near as expansive as thesession.org
+Funes -kvn fmk.musikverket.se
So beautiful :'(
Glad you enjoyed it. Gabi
Love it! :D

Fab
the first tune turns out to be by Anton Teljebäck. he says he's calling it just C-mollpolskan.
Oh good, at last someone found where it's from! Thanks Lydia - and Anton of course!
Great to know! Maybe it would be a good idea to update the video description?
@@MrFair Finally done! I thought I'd done this at the time but it must have failed.. And thanks again Anton!
Is that a tenornyckelharpa? It seems to have a lower range and deeper tone than most recordings I've heard of nyckelharpa.

Wyoming.

sharing to #HGWeekly :)
dreeeeeam :)
I suppose if you Irish people like this instrument, you have to go Iceland, then Norway and then to Sweden.
whats the name of the first tune played?
I would like to know aswell. Very atmospheric tune! :)
