    The portfolio with the gradient animation is using webgl. Those were not images but 3D planes with images as textures. Then using a raycastor and mouse position distorts the mesh when it intersects with the mouse. The gradients are probably particle clouds that distort based on the mouse position as well. The scroll effect uses the scroll speed to distort the mesh position too.

      i hate when websites have moving objects, animations and are white and complicated, a website should be black with simple wording

    Just opinion. I like simplicity and clean design, but I noticed that most of such Portfolio have to much of everything. Yes, it makes impression, but on another hand, this is so unpractical and so many distractions that makes difficult to track information. So summary - yes, you say WOW for some portfolios, but for me, it is just too much and I do not feel comfortable to explore website and it seems such UX is more mess.

      Ah! Totally get it. Great design is simple & intuitive. From my perspective, personal portfolios is one of the best opportunities to show personality and your unique design style. As long as it’s not confusing or difficult to navigate, the sky is the limit. However, there is a strong case to be made if your using your portfolio website to get you hired. Then, you’d want to use design principles of the companies your targeting (aka tailoring your portfolio for the job).

      I think there’s a difference what you put in folio and what ppl actually use. Portfolios are made to get you hired and simple interfaces are made to sell something. It’s easier to sell a dress or something than get art director to hire you with 1 year contract and relocation package so yeah. It almost like as a designer you make something to impress other designers, not clients or coworkers.

    I plan on watching this vid soon. Don't have the time now to watch the whole thing. I will say this as someone learning HTML, CSS, and JS, you're portfolio site does not need to be this nice to get a job. Build your portfolio with what you know now and then make it better as you advance in your career. Junior devs probably aren't going to have incredible portfolio sites.

    This is one of your best video! Quality of content, sound, video editing, everything is so fucing perfect! It's great to see how far you have come since the day you launched your first video about your business analyist. And I am sure you will do even better in the future.
    Also, I was curious about your UX business series. What happened there, and did you change your target audience from Startups and small companies. Was it sustainable, or did you switch to bigger fish in the market who have the money and time to afford quality UX work?

      @@AndresTheDesigner You're welcome, Andres, and I agree that choosing the right idea among many is a real challenge, especially for creatives, since we dearly love all of our ideas :D and that's why they say the focus is not about what you choose to do, most importantly, what you choose not to do.
      Also, I think your current audience is mostly UX designers who want to get some sense of direction to become UX designers and get some design inspiration.
      But at the same time, you have been running your design business for some time. I am sure you must have a lot of valuable experience to share, so if you have a story for those creatives who feel lost or overwhelmed in the world of business, managing people, projects, and money expectations. I am sure there will find great value in your stories. And since it's not your target audience right now, maybe in time, the right audience will reach your content and make it a success.

    Man all these looks so cool, and it also verified my ideas for a portfolio to see if certain interactions were possible.
    I am looking getting into a ux boot camp, ive been doing extensive research before anything. What I am expecting from this bootcamp (i am aware my work ethics is the key) is to gain the skill to be able to create portfolios like these. To gain the skill into what it means to be a ux designer or as im seeing "product designer" (I think digital product designer sounds cooler but who am I lol) now I know these designers have more than a ux designer background.
    My question is, will a boot camp give me the quality training to get to a skill level such as these designers?
    If you're curious to know what boot camp im looking at
    I live in Florida and UCF offers a bootcamp, I took a look into it and saw it looks creditable in the sense that the quality of education is good. May you look into it on their website and tell me what you think of their course structure?
    I know this is a lot to ask for in a comment lol I hope you get to read this if so thank you for your time!

    Am I the only person who doesn't like Dennis Snellenberg's portfolio interface? The magnet effect makes the website seem unstable, and the viewfinders that pop up when you scroll over his projects make me nauseous. Now, the scrolling effects are smooth and very nice, but you don't need so many moving elements in your website! I get so anxious navigating the website because of all the moving parts.

    • @spacebuddy5339
      @spacebuddy5339 4 місяці тому

      What the heck are you talking about? Dennis' website is the most well executed interactive website I've ever seen. The whole thing just flows smoothly. No unnecessary animations everything serves a purpose, no visual elements all interaction is content directed, the smooth scrolling is not excessive jst enough to give a natural feel. Peak design, beautiful ui, impeccable ux. Work on your taste!
      Edit: Or maybe you're just jealous if so that's fine just say it.

    • @films-n-stuff

      Hi. Thank you for sharing your opinions, despite their personal and antagonistic tone. I wish you were as thankful for me expressing my own opinions, as that is the only way we can improve in any endeavor we explore.
      I am not as talented a web designer as Dennis, nor am I a web designer in the first place. But as a consumer, my opinion still matters. Yes, the scrolling is very smooth. And me not liking the viewfinders popping up isn't problematic. Just like you saying there aren't any unnecessary animations isn't problematic.
      Also, saying I need to work on my taste is unproductive and dismissive. It suggests Dennis's website is the "right" way, which isn't true. Design can be subjective, or else everyone's websites would look the same.

    • @spacebuddy5339
      @spacebuddy5339 4 місяці тому +1

      @@films-n-stuff My bad I don't mean to be rude. I was a little (maybe too) excited when I read your post. But my point is there isn't that many "moving elements" to cause a distraction from the experience, even someone with a vestibular disorder could easily navigate it. If you've seen other excessive websites you'll know what I mean. I'm not saying your opinion doesn't count but it can change with a little exploration and education. The website is infact minimalistic as regards interaction.

    • @films-n-stuff
      @films-n-stuff 4 місяці тому +1

      @@spacebuddy5339 I appreciate that, thank you. I've definitely seen worse moving/interactive sites that sometimes even impede site navigation, and Dennis's site is definitely not very offensive in that regard. I'm sure my opinions will change as I navigate the world of online portfolios, probably why I'm in the minority of not liking the elements I've pointed out lol.

    Hello Andres, I have a quick question regarding your previous career as a business analyst. My original intent was to become one but now I’m leaning towards software engineering. Was the salary not worth it since I’ve heard that business analysts only earn around 40k a year. Software engineers on the other hand earn 70k a year. I was just curious on your opinion on this as I am thinking about switching majors.

    • @AndresTheDesigner
      @AndresTheDesigner  Рік тому +2

      Business Analyst can make a decent wage (up to $90K+). Software developers obviously make more. I wouldn't recommend going into a field entirely for money. So look within and ask yourself what you enjoy most.

      lol at anyone going into software engineering for money. It's too complicated and difficult if you're just doing it for money. Find what you enjoy doing and profit from it. You'll make more and be happier than forcing yourself to try to learn SWE for the next couple of years.

    Can websites such as these be created in Squarespace?

    • @AndresTheDesigner

      The websites with fancier animations & interactions, probably not. I recommend using Webflow or doing something custom, for those fancier interactions & animations.
