Gonna go out on a limb here but I fucking ADORE the Beast Machines Maximals designs. They’re weird-looking and alien but that’s why I love them. Their flashy colors and wacky proportions makes them stand out from their more anatomical and blocky friends. The concept of them being alien cyborgs is also very fun! They’re kinda over hated IMO. People need to be more appreciative of weird/experimental art.
A little experimentation is necessary in the art world sometimes, I'll grant you that. In the case of Transformers though, I think the Transmetals and Transmetal 2s were weird and alien enough and enough of an experiment and gamble while still looking like Transformers.
@@realJoeMavro Yeah, I'm with Joe here, there are ways to do twists to the design while still having them feel familiar. Things like Animated, Prime, the movies all experimented but also pulled it off better (for the most part)
I went through a phase as an older kid where I realized actual faction commanders in a war would just stay at the base and issue orders. Beast Machines Megatron was perfectly built for that mindset, and his smaller size just meant he fit more easily into the giant fortresses I started building out of K'nex.
I remember seeing the commercial for this Megatron and Cheetor Supreme. In 4th Grade, I made the mistake of asking for both for Christmas thinking Megs would be just as good as his Transmetal 2 figure, but smaller and I could just pretend he was Megatron's son or something. I wish I could go back in time and hit my 10-year-old self with a truck.
@@TheUncleShow Nowhere near as cool as the commercial made him look. I wish I'd asked for Night Slash Cheetor instead, but I didn't know about that figure.
It has potential, but said potential has not been realized. Also technically the curtain and helmet are supposed to come off so there's potential there?
I loved the show but I watched it for the first time in 2021. The themes were interesting. I understand how it failed because it was very far removed from the feel and world of Beast Wars which is still the best Transformers show that I've bothered to watch.
I'm hoping they retool the Transmetal II Megatron into a Beast Machines version. They could have the tail as wires, have the wings fold in a Batman-like cape, and have thrusters on the dragon's back that can turn into his harness arms.
honestly this line has a strange element that make me love some of their figure as blackarachia (who actually look awesome ) or the maximals who didn’t apeard in the series like cybershark, the bull one or night viper. one part of me hope we get a line as experimental as this one but well done
my honest first thought when seeing this figure (my cousin had it long time ago) was staring at his chest, and getting flashbacks to the Thunderzords from MMPR. i once had a toy of the Red Dragon Thunderzord, which transformed into a humanoid, and this Megatron toy looked like it was a failed attempt at replicating it
I love the toy vehicon generals. Strika is lovable jank, tankor is clunky fun, jetstorm is just plain good, thrust was a pleasant surprise, and obsidian is also here. I was debating getting the megatron here (not to be confused with the megatron over there) to fully complete the bunch, and thanks to your review I can confidently say "if I have the cash when I see one, I'll flip a coin".
tbh i had this toy as a kid and i loved it, like this and the Master Gundam's design, i fell in love with the whole "Shower Curtain" idea, as you put it
I will give Beast Machines one point, I like the idea to show Megatron cannot be separated from his Beast Mode by having any time he detaches from his wire helm harness thing, he immediately turns back into a dragon. like he goes so long in between transformations that he can't help but switch.
slowly getting thru Beast Wars with a friend, but this weirdly makes me look forward to Beast Machines… I’ll take nightmarishly uncanny CGI and 2000s trashiness over something like Netflix WFC that was mostly just uninspired and forgettable.
God. Beast machines... That takes me back to the dark ages where transformers was just limb sucking and extending for transformations. Beast wars was epic as fuck, beast machines should never have happened. I need to rewatch beast wars.
I wish Hasbro would retool TM2 Megatron to be used as a regular and fully functional TM2 Megatron, only with more patchwork and damage around his body in both modes, with wings that can wrap around him and the control harness. Though in today’s market that would make it a commander class.
I find it ironic that Beast Machines, when greenlit was told to "Downplay connections to Beast wars" by the executive. To go all in on G1 continuity and created the most narrative heavy western cartoon in history, up to that point. Peak Mainframe in terms of insanity.
@@Optimus_prime_oss I am planning one tomorrow so get subscribed. It's not gonna be a big one but some nice little ones that'll go to a good home hopefully.
@makootithebionicman3612 technically there are 3. Beast wars 2 and beast wars neo are anime follow ups with completely Newcastle And Beast Machines is a direct sequel that's awful
Can only guess they didn't want to make his "cloak" or whatever a removable piece, given most Transformers toys generally try to incorporate every piece into both modes so nothing is left to the side. Problem here being that since Megs is literally wearing an accessory, it should have just bit the bullet and made the cloak/harness thing an accessory for a possibly better toy. And really, that could have been cool since the toy would be able to make tweaks to the design from the show. I could see it being a decent reskin of the BW Megs that has little bits on his body that let him hook into the cloak, which could have a bendable "arm" to let you recreate how he moved around in the show. Overall, Beast Machines really was an oddity in the grand scheme of things. A neat premise, but flawed execution.
Anyone else kinda wish we got a retool of the Generations one with bigger wings that can fold around the body and a new 'command helmet' with the arms and stuff? Granted it would bump him to Commander class and I doubt Hasbro would EVER give that price point to Beast Machines. Hell they gave it to Beast Wars Neo before Beast Machines and that show never officially aired outside of Japan.
I can't comprehend Beast Machine haters. It's so peak. Next thing you're going to tell me is that Beast Wars II is too silly and is (frequently) poorly animated.
Megatrons design was far too moody and drab, like a wretched robo hermit; a farcry from his powerful and menacing portrayal in Beast Wars. Transformers up until that point have had fairly standard humanoid proportions (albeit cartoonized for animation purposes), but Beast machines designs were exaggerated to the point of unpleasantness, whwere it was painful to look at them. If the designs were more in line with normal proportions (that would work as toys or physical models in the real world) with pleasing colour schemes, the show might have been more watchable, because the story wasn't half bad (annoying edgy character tropes notwithstanding). What they did to Rattrap is atrocious, but what they did to ALL the vehicons (Rhinox, Silverbolt, and Waspinator specically) is unforgivable.
Dont get me wrong, I personally dislike (not hate but def dislike a lot) the beast machines show, from the story and plot elements (cybertron is 'meant' to be organic? what kind of environmental wacko got into the script and made it worse?) Turning a certain beloved character known foremost for his empathy and faith in his fellow bots into a cold, heartless and treacherous villain was also a real blunder. All that said, megatron in the show was exactly what was mentioned in this video... A stripped down, degraded version of his end-of-beast-wars self, due to him trying to strip and remove the organic components of his beast mode. So in that sense this toy kind of nails it.
The show started off great but went downhill by the end as though they didn't know how to either finish or carry on the show and they tried to bring in religion making primal some sort of a jesus type thing
The idea was he was now angry with his beast mode and his wings he uses as a cloak to hide his transmetal 2 dragon parts while he leads a pure robot force his head has his control mask on it his BM toys would all. Have this the final stolen spec optimal Optimus primal body was given a Injoke reference to it being them out of time and money to make a new model so they just put megatrons face under primals helmet and reused the body model. Technically Hasbro /Takara TOMY can do it as another fake convey style toy
Beast Machines tried to be edgey and non violent at the same time....and had some terrible character design
I almost wish there was a toy of Bottanica jsut so I could mock it
@TheUncleShow it would be double funny if they made one and it's was actually good
Yeah it was a huge step down from Beast Wars. Sometimes change is good, this was not one of those times.
Transformation sequences lazier than the Zybots.
Beast machines is what transformers see when they're drunk on energon.
@vindicatorschannel7136 you think in that one episode where the bots Get drunk, they saw blackarachnia running like that one clip
