Kinda moot since percussion caps have been 'unobtainium' for quite awhile. Even online they're "on back order". ( I'm an old shooter, and have my supply. I feel sorry for those new to black powder)
The manual with my Ruger Old Army stainless pistol calls for # 10 caps. Do you sell them?? How's about a loading stand and double cavity ball or mini ball molds?? Need nipple wrench for my # 10 pistol and #11 for my Hawken 50 ???
We're out of #10's and it sounds like we'll remain that way for the rest of the year. We highly recommend looking through our website. There is no mention of which caps are best for percussion revolvers. And there are many, many more original and repro revolvers than there are long guns, so that might be helpful knowledge for persons new to black powder.
I just got a fairly nice CVA Apollo 50Cal,.NO the S/N is NOT in the defect list,Im trying to find percussion caps for it,I have found a page that says #11,as on Amazon, but two review say they didnt fit the guns they had,but didnt list which gun they had,I would like to know if you know which cap fit this gun and where to buy them.
Last month I purchased several hundred at a local outdoor chain type store called academy sports in Pensacola. They are not likely in Business in Vermont. But if they are selling them now, likely you can now find them in Vermont. IIRC they were #11. The max allowed amount was 300 per customer. I also got some #2 pyrodex and some longshot smokeless powder.
So I have a Traditions Hawkins 50 that says to use #11 Percussion Caps, but doesn't say Magnum. Can I safely use Magnum's on this rifle? New to Muzzle loading.
Hey, I'm an FFL manufacturer. I don't know much about percussion caps like you do. I have a lot of raw brass caps coming to me that are unprimed. I can send a few to you, if you'd like to tell me which ones would fit particular models. I could then prime caps per your recommendation on which caps will work properly and send you some for your efforts.
Is there a difference in Musket Caps when it comes to the propellent used? Black Powder, RS Pyrodex, Triple Seven FFG, FFFG... And even for pellet propellents.
Musket caps will effectively ignite most FFG black powders and black powder substitutes except for Blackhorn 209. Blackhorn has a remarkably high heat threshold so it will not ignite consistently with musket cap ignition. We have had excellent results with Pyrodex Select when used with musket cap ignition systems.
CCI makes percussion caps, and also makes a lot of the primers for center fire ammo, based on what I've read. I imagine they're under a lot of pressure to make primers, and probably put percussion caps on the back burner.
I ammo company's retool the line one month out of the year for percussion Caps and when they are gone you can't get any more until the next year now I heard Remington is not going to make anymore due to a government contract but I don't know that far sure that's what I've been hearing
I have been using CCI musket caps and have had lots of misfires in an 1861 Springfield. They are available, but no good. Fortunately, I have one tin of RWS. I haven't shot them yet, but I'm reading they are much better. You hate walking around with a loaded rifle that won't fire. Forget the re-enactors. Do you want us going home with a loaded rifle because your caps don't work? Something bad is gonna happen and CCI will be held accountable.

In a pinch, make your own.

Thank you, clear concise explanation. I've been out of muzzleloading for many years and needed a refresher. Just what I needed.

Any testing done on the rws 1075 vs rws 1075 plus caps for accuracy in 45 cal rifles??
There is no mention of which caps are best for percussion revolvers. And there are many, many more original and repro revolvers than there are long guns, so that might be helpful knowledge for persons new to black powder.
No. 1075 are the the same as #11 I have #10 cones and the no.1075 fit better than #11 but a little to large what's the difference??
How do I measure the nipple or what is the caliper measurement to determine if I need 11 or musket cap?
My CCI musket caps are the "multiple use" type.

@ I thank you for your feedback. It looks like I should continue to look around for them #11
would you happen to know what percussion caps would be best for my pietta 1861 navy .36 caliber?
I don't have any first hand experience with that pistol, however, it should use #10 percussion caps.

i got some #11 percussion caps for sale i just bought them but i dont really need them i need #10
Need RWS Musket Caps. I hope they can ship some over here in 2024.
So I have a Traditions Hawkins 50 that says to use #11 Percussion Caps, but doesn't say Magnum. Can I safely use Magnum's on this rifle? New to Muzzle loading.
What cap would you use for muzzle loading shotguns?
Thank you

We're can I get percussion cap
I heard that #11s fit replacement nipples but I’m not sure how to identify those replacement nipples.
slickshot makes #11 conv nipples but its like 25 for 3 at my local sport shop so 50 per revolver, I decided not to switch my 1851s cause that

Does anyone have insight as to why they are so hard to find

Sad there seems to be plenty of demand.

No information here. Never described actual differences between #10 and #11 caps.
