I’ve never underestimated a show quite like this one. I didn’t see anything online and I didn’t think the premise sounded that great. I gave it a watch on a whim just because it sounded unique and holy crap my expectations were shattered in one episode
Even for a 20+ years manga reader like me, Orb’s premise is very unique. The fact that Orb can make this unique premise interesting and touching really inspires me. Very happy to be able to witness this kind of written in my life.
"Orb" is a work of art. The original story by Uoto is on par with Marguerite Yourcenar's "Opus Nigrum" and Umberto Eco's "The name of the Rose". Absolutely worth reading. To me, it's the best anime of the season. And probably the year. I don't care about the other shows, they have their qualities on their own right, but "Orb" stands out far, far ahead of everything else. It even managed Tsuda Kenjirou to drop the tried and true tired-yakuza-tone he masters so well and deliver a wonderful performance in Ep.3, when Nowak faces Rafal. A must watch. That's it.
@@sanji_loverboy529Not really. All the characters are fictitious and the way the Church is portrayed is for storytelling reasons not necessarily to be historically accurate

I think people oversold it because i came watching it with a lot of expectation and it felt a bit of a let down. I found the story being predictable in some way (except for the end of episode 3), like Jolenta being the daughter of THAT guy, Oczy's friend carrying a death flag, Jolenta mentor using her own research with his name then runing into the puzzle on the city board, among other things. To sum it up I don't think the writting is that well done right now. However I can see it rocketing in quality with the dynamic starting between Jolenta and the Badeni/Oczy duo. Dandadan puts more care into the writing into it than most shounen for sure. And Orb also is one of the most innovative and inspiring animes to come out.
