OMFG!! Allan Holdsworth coming atcha! I had the privilege of hearing him perform at NYC's "Bottom Line" in the East Village, just across from NYU, three times in the early 1980's. The band was Johnson/Wackerman/Pasque. Man did they smoke. So much musicianship happening onstage simultaneously. Incredible stuff for sure. Where has this video been? It says posted in 2007 and so few responses. I know Holdsworth was way ahead of his time, but c'mon. The John Coltrane of the guitar. Believe it.
Novak is literally one of the most underrated drummers around. He is a non stop animal but can also hold back although, this song just may not be his most dynamic piece.
xbm- thanx for the novak info on the drummer, i didnt know who that was.. NOW look how good this piece is WITHOUT the synthaxe, that tractor trailor just bogged him down during shows. this guitar here sounds great, alot cheaper too im sure
@tamalexis THANK YOU VERY MUCH-I HAVE A FEELING YOU HAVE A DEEPER MEANING TO MUSIC -FOR YOU TO EVEN GIVE ME THIS COMMENT-yes if tony touched it -its 'gold' so to speak..tony 'is' "jazz fusion"-so anyone else that follows 'this' pattern-then follows behind Tony..let me share this-Tony was a great jazz drummer that felt-knew-fusion and rock like no other drummer-he played fusion[rock] to dispel the jazz guys & kinda get back at them at the same time -why Tony's playing sounds so tribal!
@paisteguy799 They did in Germany, too (3sat). AH's performance at the "Leverkusener Jazztage" last year was broadcasted as well (WDR). It is on UA-cam, I think, just have a look, it was great...
@paisteguy799 YOUR POINT IS VERY WELL TAKEN --and i feel that's what you intended.. /however/moreover/inaddition Tony is to Holdsworth like peanut is to jelly..and i hear Tony all in this song..and trust me i know Novak heard Tony;s version (smile) Novak is a solid drummer.excellent and i think he feels Holdsworth better -than the others he has played with i would put chad in there to as a compliment-my buddy loves Novak and he is an excellent drummer himself--so basically "I feel you" peace.
Which tabs did you find? Mine are a bit different from what he actually plays and leave out the bass strings, which sounds a bit odd. I need tabs depicting exactly what Allan plays here...
WTF?! He doesn't even look at the fretboard! How sick is that? This chord sequence was written to say "fuck you" to all the guitar players in the world. Allan, you're my master...
I love this, though here are some other thoughts when I watch this: (1) Allan's setup appears to be stereo, presumably for the synth (2) the bass player's sneakers make him look like a kid (3) the drummer *may* be overplaying? The jury's out on that one, haha!
When I was a kid it use to be Coltrane, Coltrane, Coltrane; since 1977 it's Holdsworth, Holdsworth, Holdsworth.
Wackerman is one of my favorite drummers... but Novak just kills this.
I saw Holdsworth live with UK back in 78. Amazing show, amazing guitar player.
Notice how that awesome 7-fret-long stretch is so powerful it even clips the audio at 4:00 !
The_H_Side hahahahaha good point!

love love love this tune...miss Dave Carpenter.....he was amazing, and an incredibly down-to-earth man.
I miss David too. Really miss his bass playing around the house all day.
This song is one of his most beautiful works.
still the best version of this tune ever...

Essa versãozinha é preciosa fellas, Looking Glass com preparação e Lídio e lindjo bagarai
Amazing performance of this track!
Allan Holdsworth is the Doc!:D:D
I love this. I use to try to play like Allan' then I thought about another guy who tried to play like him.
They called him' the unknown John Clark.
3 monstros reunidos aí... Caraca.... Fico babando

RIP dave 6/24/2008
4:10 - 4:25 gives me the chills
Tito Pascoal lovely chord progression, huh?
Probably some of my favorite chord voicings at the beginning of that phrase. Actually gets me emotional asf
How did Allan even think of composing something like this, let alone play it?
Thanks to lerolben for posting this clip. I love this song! All three guys play so well together. Allan's gift is extraordinary.
It's Dave Carpenter on bass. Regards!
@paisteguy799 I'm afraid that there is no any commercial release. This is vhs rip from polish television.
guau they are amazin'

Is that Mike Pope on bass? Amazing trio and great tune!
@paisteguy799 yes Gary Novak can hang with anyone, he's way underrated. I'm spoiled by his playing, wish he was on more recordings
The line starting at 3:00 is so ridiculous it always makes me audibly laugh
Only the GOAT could come up with something like that
@ariehaar you got that right!
...the kind of stuff that makes your arm hairs stand up!

All 3 are masters - so sad about Dave, one of the most creative bassists I've heard since Jaco.
He was Amazing!

Novak Is a BEAST
T.HIGGINS
Someone in the comments said Novak is over playing. Imagine being that wrong lol

john clark?
Not in the same universe or league as Holdsworth
this is bad as fuck...but i also-- love(LOVE) the way Tony plays it on the album version...
@thehside
