That's exactly right. Never remove both intelligence modules at the same time unless you have engaged the Maintenance Bypass Switch (not enough to only command UPS into bypass via display, as Intel Modules maintain closure voltage of bypass contacts). The LEDs on the front of the SYMIM5 will indicate they are ready to support the UPS. Please review this FAQ with more details. www.apc.com/us/en/faqs/FA157510/
Another Pro Tip for installing SYMIM5: push firmly on the module grille (not the handle) to ensure they are fully installed into the system. This will allow easier lateral movement of the thumbscrew which activates the modules.
Working on electrical equipment with a metal watch band and bracelet? Not setting a very good example there guys ;-) The video was very helpful. Thank you.
I'm having a very hard time with the thumbscrew as it's not "locking" to the right which doesn't allow me to screw it in clockwise. Any advice? the Module itself fits correct and its flush when put into the chassis.

How about if I just want to re-seat the IM? Currently we receive alarms that one of the IMs failed but it will clear itself in just a minute. Both IMs are running OK but every 30 mins we received alarms and then it clears out. Is this a predictive failure? I want to try to re-seat the IM, should I follow this procedure by turning on Maintenance Bypass (MB)? or I can just simply remove and insert the IM without MB?
I realize it's been two years, but in case it helps others, I have had two separate cases where the flapping alerts were due to a failed and swollen capacitor on the Intelligence Module board. You can repair the board if desired.
@@lanhamrattan224 Just experienced this myself. Found a bulged 470µF 50V cap bulged. I ordered a new one but I may try and rebuild both original ones, keeping the secondary redundant one and having a backup.
Just confirming @skytech95s comments, I replaced the bulged 470µF 50V capacitor in my main module (and redundant) and it fixed the flapping alerts I experienced. There is a single capacitor that was bulged on each board. My new module has no ETA but at least my UPS is no longer in an error state. Hopes this helps someone.

What if you have to replace both of them? Do you just replace one at a time and wait until it is fully running, then replace the other one?

Clearly described how to get the system in to bypass and what to look for. I was able to swap out a failed IM easily with this. Thank you!

I totally agree. That should be forbidden.

Can the symmetra lx run on the redundant intelligence module if one of the intelligence modules failed?
