I put an inline (near the tank) electric pump on our '38 in order to prime the carb after sitting for weeks. When the car began cutting out at speed I initially thought it was vapor lock. Turned out that the mechanical pump has trouble pumping thru the electric pump. Guess I'll have to install a low-restriction one-way valve that lets fuel flow around the electric pump when it's turned off.
Jim H. Hi Jim I too plan to install a back up electric pump. My understanding is certain electric pumps allow the mechanical pump to pull fuel through. I too need to learn which one, to get the right pump. I’ve got one here now on the bench. I can blow air through it in one direction only. The direction that the fuel needs to flow. So perhaps I’ll try it.
Hey, just found the channel because I am searching for info about these 38 Plymouths. Do you per chance know where a guy could find the service manuals for one of these old things?
Thx for the post. Made my uneventful weekend. 🦏
Beutiful cars, I love them.
Your bride did a nice job on the seats.
Thank you for the upload ! Looking into buying the 1938 Plymouth but it has a 40s front end the engine misfires has an LS1 in it with airbags

If needed, a free-flowing fuel bypass checkvalve:

Ebay is one place where I have found manuals.
@@keithsgarage5831 Alright, I will look around on there, thanks
www.oldmoparts.com/parts-literature.aspx is a great source of parts and literature. Prices are VERY reasonable
Do you have a part #? Close by the kit you bought.
