@@LaidOutBare a different part of the brain is activated when we sleep so the trauma can release, you know because when we're experiencing something traumatic the part of our brain that processes normally when we're not going through something traumatic, shuts down, so then the trauma gets stored because that part of the brain isn't activated, if that makes sense.
