Hey man. I'm not a chess enthusiast. But I do like watching the creativity behind the players. This video popped up in my recommendations, it definitely caught my eye. "What's the necessity behind creating somethings so specific?" Is what I thought to myself (without the use of words). Then I realized. You saw something that others haven't, and you're sharing it. These deep dives into specific aspects of a whole under the context of a seemingly unrelated genre is the essence of creativity. THIS video is working. THIS video stands out. Do more like it. Branch out away from chess, and apply this formula elsewhere. A great mind like yours will surely do good for a wider audience.

Can't believe I watched an hour documentary about a pawn. Well the concept of a pawn. What intrigued me the most is when pawns when in unison(pawn chains). Two connected passed pawns can only most of the time be beaten by a queen and/or bishop. Three connected passed pawns is a win. You dont need a whole board. Two close connections is enough for victory.

      @Icarus-I37 День тому

Initially, Chess didn't have Queens in the functional sense we have today. Kings and Queens had the same move-set, which considerably altered the pace and simplified the nature of the game.
Having a front rank of cheap/expendable, and comparatively immobile pieces, with a back rank of pieces which exemplify the different movement-patterns possible on a grid, in pairs is... by itself what one might consider an inevitability in game design for something like this.
The exact location of each type of movement-pattern (piece) on the back rank is intuitive if you consider that the royalty sits in the center.
After that, bishops might make great corner pieces, but it seriously disenfranchises the Rook to place it anywhere other than the corner, given its columnar mastery, and opens serious blind-spots in the shape of the army.
So if you know where the royalty and Rooks should sit, you're just left arguing over exactly which location the Bishops and Knights should be placed, which itself can become intuited.
I'm not trying to downplay the elegance of the game-design by any stretch, or to suggest that looking back upon its creation over time, that we would find it simple to make, ourselves. Rather, that viewing it through the lens of Game-Design... it's an intuitive thing.

I love the dialogue of this video and depth even for those who don’t play chess. If you really want to make it more engaging, add some sfx and animations. Ex. Pawns moving and animations of legendary games (showing an actual chessboard) between grandmasters. Like sometimes you are talking about specific openings but the audience needs a visualization of it and not just audio. Keep it up and even if this takes extra work, it’s well worth it. ❤

Who underappreciates pawns? It's second only to the knight when representing the game as an icon. There's books dedicated to pawn structure. It's a common metaphor (sacrificial pawn). Everyone knows you can promote and that it's the only one to promote.

I really like this video but feel you could edit it down to 10 minutes, which would increase your views and shareability factor. I hear a lot of your concepts about the pawn repeating so it's not a bad thing to shorten it. But again, nice video.

      Castle Early
One of the most important opening moves in chess is castling. This move does two things:
Protects the King: Castling moves your king to safety.
Activates the Rook: It gets your rook off the corner and closer to the center of the board.
the rook is ur second queen. its really powerful

    Pawn
The job is all the pawn can do
A little step, sometimes a few
Jump off the line, a battle brews
To save his wild, scattered crew-
The hand of fate now guides him on
But still, this piece is here, a pawn
Time goes by in static stretches
    Focused eye, avoiding messes-
More spaces he has moved, and so the fight progresses
Now sitting at the edge, a change that beats their guesses
Brand new phase is straight ahead, he’s feeling strong and rested
Then he’s moved just once again, now by the king he’s nested
A scream is all he's got to give, before the fear sets in
The bravest in this fight he’s been, although he knows he cannot win
And surly now his fate draws loud, the turn for which he’s dreading
Right off the ground, flicked over and down, the great king he sent heading
