    Justin, in your opinion, chosing a wireless microphone is more important the maxiumum SPL of the mic or the bit depth of the recorder/converter to avoid clipping and distortion?

    • @GaetanoCrisci
      @GaetanoCrisci Рік тому

      @@JustinBallRecording Thank You for the reply Justin, you have very interesting videos, quality made! it's incredible you have so few subscribers!
      I'm interested in mic because I have to decide between 2 wireless Mic with recording capabilities and at the moment the best are DJI Mic and Rode wireless Go 2, mainly for voice recording but I'm particularly interested they will not clip or risk distortion
      From your videos I understand that with higher Bit Depth you get also more dynamic range, is for this reason I was supposing that the lower dynamic range of the 16bit (96db?) was a limit, I mean 96db means that the maximum volume can get without distortion is 96db?

    • @JustinBallRecording
      @JustinBallRecording  Рік тому +1

      @@GaetanoCrisciSorry, I admittedly misspoke in my previously reply, which I've deleted. YES, a higher bit depth means more dynamic range, and everything you just said is on point. However, something I didn't really go into in this video (because it's taking the "basics" a little too far), is that the higher the bit depth, the higher the signal to noise ratio. So, lower bit depths will capture more noise, and higher bits depths less noise. Because of this, it's typically better to go with higher bit-depths for recording, and upon looking into it, it looks like both mics you're looking at can handle 24-bit recording. However, if it's WIRELESS mics you're looking at, while Rode may have way more years experience creating audio products, DJI is the GOAT of wireless transmission systems. You just have to way your options considering price, audio quality, ease of use, ease of data retrieval/transmission, and read as many reviews as you can before making your decision. Hope this helps!

    • @GaetanoCrisci
      @GaetanoCrisci Рік тому +1

      @@JustinBallRecording Thank You Justin! yes I have already watched many review with audio test, and sincerely with the UA-cam video (and audio) compression I can't hear any difference between the Rode and the DJI, undoubtedly DJI have the main advantage in transmission but you know what I have discovered asking to DJI support? the DJI Mic only give the 24 bit depth on the recordings! not on the audio wireless transmission! instead the Rode seams to be 24bit on both recording and transmission!
      This sound curious! and here my knowledge to understand why they are doing this... end... as they (DJI) have strong transmission knowledge I was pretty sure they were both transmitting and recording at 24 bit... it's also sound strange that the wireless TX convert audio down to 16bit before transmitting... mysteries

    Hey Justin.
    If the sample rate is 44.1 khz per second, does that mean there will be 44,100 samples for each complete cycle Or only 44,100 samples for the whole 1 second.
    1000 hz means 1000 complete cycles right?

    • @JustinBallRecording
      @JustinBallRecording  Рік тому +1

      Yep!

    • @venvatpictures
      @venvatpictures Рік тому

      @@JustinBallRecording So, let's say that 1 sec with 44.1khz sampling rate.. There will be 44,100 complete cycles and for each cycle there will be 44,100 samples. So there's 1.94 billion samples in a single second of 44.1khz audio?

    • @JustinBallRecording
      @JustinBallRecording  Рік тому +1

      @@venvatpictures sorry, I misread your previous question. No, there will not be 44,100 samples per cycle. In the video I explained that the reason we have over 40,000 samples per second is because humans can only hear sounds up to 20kHz, so, to have an accurate reading we need at least 2 samples per cycle (one for the up, one for the down). 2x40,000 Hz = 40,000 Hz.
      I don’t go deeper into WHY it’s exactly 44.1 & 48 in this video, because it’s actually pretty complicated.

    • @JustinBallRecording
      @JustinBallRecording  Рік тому

      Great question. Although some people use the terms “bit rate” and “bit depth” interchangeably, BIT RATE is commonly used to describe audio stream quality for music streaming services.
      It’s also commonly used in video terminology in a similar fashion, referring to the depth of information captured in the video.
