  • Plain air in Bulgaria , watercolor artist Andrei Bulatov.
Pomorie is one of the resort towns on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria, famous not only for beach holidays, but also for the extraction of salt and the production of various products from the so-called luga - a solution of salt in sea water saturated to the limit.
The old town here is small compared to the new buildings, which are often called New Moscow or even Novorossiya (at least this inscription adorns one of the facades of large houses built in the 21st century). But... the old town in Pomorie is a pleasant place to be, not only because the development is on a human scale, but also because it was built in the windward part of the peninsula, where living conditions are more favorable. People have lived here since ancient Roman times.
Of particular interest are, of course, the ancient churches. And this Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was built in the 18th century on the seashore. It is, of course, tiny, but so is the entire old part of Pomorie, so this church fits harmoniously into the narrow streets of the ancient buildings. Stone walls without plaster, an abundance of greenery around, and especially two willow trees in front of the entrance, emitting a cool green light, soften the harsh colors of the stone. The pavement here is also made of stone, not asphalt. The shadows in the foreground show the narrowness of the street and the proximity of small residential buildings opposite.
The special gray-steel color of the old city goes perfectly with the ultramarine of the almost colorless sky and bright sea.
