I also go over a recent controversy regarding the title of my last video and share my thoughts on how the channel is going.

While I comment for the algorithm, I’ll tell you the story of how I drank free beer because of you last week. I was in an international meeting for work and these two tall blonde scandinavian guys showed up. My collegaue told me that they’re probably swedes. Then I overheard these guys talking to someone in english and I immediately recognize the accent, because it’s the exact same accent that teaches me chess and helps me sleep😂 so I tell my collegaue that those guys aren’t swedish, they’re danish. He insists, so we make a wager and go ask the guys where they’re from. Turns out they are from copenhagen and I get to drink beer for free!

I'm so happy I helped you get back into chess! Hard times come and go. When I find myself in a bad position in chess I alway try to tell myself that my job is the same as it is in a good position: Find the best move given the circumstances. I guess it is the same with the channel here.

Hey, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate the content you make, and I'm glad you explained so openly and honestly why you put a clickbait title to an otherwise normal video the other day. I'm sorry to hear that the channel is being snubbed by the ever-growing greed of the Yt algorithm, and tbh now I'd personally be ok with more clickbaity titles if that's necessary to keep the channel afloat and all the great content that comes along (even if I'd prefer normally titled videos).

Personally I couldn't care less about what you name your videos, I will watch all of them no matter what (my sleep schedule depends on it). But I think, specifically for your last video, a more correct clickbait title would've been better. Something like "Why I will never play my favourite opening again" or "This one game completely changed my playstyle" or something like that, I'm sure there's a good title somewhere in there. Still overdramatic but definitely more correct and less heart attack inducing.
❤If I had the money I would singlehandedly pay all of your rent just so you could keep making videos. No joke, you are my favourite creator and I hope your channel blows up❤ ❤

Thank you for having the courage to share your feelings and concerns about the sustainability of your channel. I have been wondering how you managed to put out such high quality scripts and edits so often and with so little ads compared to other chess creators (which I'm sooo grateful for!). You've been my nightly bread for quite some time now and I'm always torn between falling asleep to your very soothing voice and staying wide awake to follow and learn. Which means that I'll watch a video every night for a week on average (I've heard something somewhere about repetition and learning openings). For that reason I tend to go to the shorter formats (less than 90 minutes). I agree about the request for more openings content but I'm also very fond of your analyses of historical games. I mean the way you tell those like bedtime stories is just so unique!
Your creations clearly are one of the finest and most genuine, original things to have come out of UA-cam if you ask me. I was heartbroken to hear it's such a struggle to make it work financially. Some years ago I've made the decision to finally pursuing an artistic career at 36 and I can relate to the burden of having finally found your calling but struggling to make ends meet. So it didn't take long before I subscribed to your patreon - which btw is way too invisible on the channel, to the point that I realised that all this time I've been assuming you didn't really need the support. I wouldn't mind if you mentioned it at the beginning of each episode like you would do with a sponsor. Or maybe tell us about what happens on the discord to create a sense of community and make people want to join. I know I would have of I had heard earlier.
Regarding clickbait I think it's acceptable as long as it's light/playful -- this was a little too intense for all of us addicted core followers. But I think you've summed it up perfectly yourself.
Keep on believing, we'll be there.
Love from Brussels (with a side of whichever one of our many comfort foods)

    Dear ASMR Chess,
Hello! You may see me comment once every blue moon (almost never), but I wanted to tell you that I have been watching your videos every night for the past three years to relax and fall asleep! I want to thank you so much for all of the hard work, dedication, and persistence you have for your craft and channel.
I have taken some time to think about any sort of helpful information you may or may not already know about! Also, my heart did sink with the last video title! Haha.
Of course the algorithm is very much effecting your videos, but the quality of your videos has only continued to increase. Personally, I would say that you don't need "clickbait", you just need interesting and relative titles and thumbnails that accurately advertise in an exciting and interesting way what your video is about!
I would like to note the following:
    Top Performing videos-
-Typically either educational videos, particularly openings, or you playing chess yourself
-It appears length of the videos is not particularly relevant
-You tend to have not an over the top ASMR voice, your voice speaks for itself and is very relaxing, conversational almost, like your talking to a friend. I think when you imagine yourself talking to a friend it really connects with the audience in a personal way through the video, instead of trying to be ASMRy (I hope that makes sense, haha)
-Quite a bit of the high viewed videos were at the "peak" of the chess craze or boom. I believe there is still a push in chess, but it isn't as rapid as it was between 2020-2022 (so give yourself some breath for the recently lower view count...algorithm and general chess interest)
[For instance, look at GothamChess's most popular videos, almost all of them are 1-3 years ago. His last 20 videos have an average of 323k views and he has 4.6 million subscribers (7%); your last 20 videos have an average of 25k views with 155k subscribers (16%)! Your view count relative to your subscribers is actually 9% higher than GothamChess!!!]
Perhaps you already knew this information, perhaps not, but I just wanted to attempt to be helpful in any way that I can!
Also, I really think promoting your patron is a great idea. Let's say you have currently, 30,000 faithful, every night type of views, if we can rally together to give $1 every month, even just 10,000 of us, You would most likely be able to pursue this full time which is a dream I hope every night you come to realize and I get to be apart of. Even if we can just get you to $1,000 every month, your rent would be paid for. Maybe vocalize and set a goal stating that combined with income from UA-cam and $X amount from patron I could pursue ASMR Chess full time. Be transparent and authentic like you always have and maybe it will start a rally for you! Cheering you on as always and thank you so much for everything you do. I am rooting for your dream!
    Much Love,
    TheJABstep

Your videos have got me in to chess again. I really like your opening videos. That's how I found your channel. They are your channel's gems and I highly suggest you would focus more of your effort on that and have a structured post time. For example, every 2 weeks you post one like this and then next time do a second part where you talk about weaknesses and other things. You can say in the beginning like welcome to chess opening Friday or something like that. That way people know that there will be a new video that they are interested in. Either way good luck with your channel and I hope you will start to get your audience back.

As someone also struggling with UA-cam and regularly watches your videos, I have some ideas for you.
    1. Better thumbnails. I think you could do so much more with them.
    2. "Clickbait" titles for insane chess games. You can definitely use epic titles for legendary games.
    3. You could do a series showing only the chess moves of famous games, and spend a bunch of time animating the moves ect. These could be super short, highly engaging videos with music following into the short and snappy style that UA-cam seems to promote nowadays. For example the "Einstein Vs Oppenheimer Real Chess Game" by ChessPage1 had 1 million views. You could do "Ron Weasley Sacrifices Himself In Chess" or "Sherlock Vs Moriarty Chess Battle Analyzed By A Chess Expert" These style titles would definitely get you views I believe.
Just some of my ideas for you. I watch every one of your videos and have been a massive fan for a long time. I was actually working on a TV show and one of the makeup artists mentioned your channel out of the blue and we had a discussion about you. This was on Dr Who (if you know the show)

I'm a big fan! I'll always watch your videos. I suffer from insomnia and I can't tell you how many nights your videos helped my brain focus and slow down enough to fall asleep. I have insanely sensitive hearing, and for some reason other noises like sounds in another room bother me to the extent, that it is essentially mental torture. Cars, dogs, cats, a washing machine, people walking, you name it, and it keeps my eyelids glued open. ASMR helps me zone that all out and yours in particular works well for me. You actually got me into learning chess as an additional positive and my sister can't come close to beating me now haha. I'll do what i can to always support you in these rough times man.
Here's some video ideas if you're in need of some inspiration. :)
What if you do a masterclass style series of teaching videos where you progressively teach more complex chess moves and tactics. I feel like that could be interesting for a lot of people.
I would also be intersted in learning GO if you would be interested in comparing chess (the popular western game) vs. GO (the Eastern game of choice).
Another option, would be to make an additional non-ASMR channel for teaching Chess more formally without the ASMR setting.
You could also make a video where you browse the wiki talking about famous chess masters and the history of boardgames as a whole.
One more last idea for a series of videos, is a wood carving series. Now hold on! You could carve your own set of chess pieces and make a custom board. Later, you could also do some drawing videos sketching new ideas and designs while other videos could be you reviewing online chess products.
There are also non-traditional game modes for chess online, like 4 player chess. It could be interesting to see you take on that kind of gameplay.
Oh! There's also the Tri-dimensional Chess played in Star Trek. I've always thought that it would be cool to see it played properly.
My point is, maybe with a more diverse collection of videos you could draw in viewers who normally wouldn't see the video, you could try out some adjacent content.
While you do a carving, you could still whisper the history of whatever is inspiring you that day, or even talk about random things.

Glad to see another opening video! It's one of my favorite video types from the channel. I also really enjoy the analyses of historical games, more so than some of the computer chess stuff. Thanks for making content for us! I hope you can grow the channel enough that it's no longer necessary to rely on clickbait.

“Is click bait annoying?” Yes it usually is, but “ am I going to enjoy your video regardless of what I know it’s about going into it?” Yes. I watch your videos because I like learning about chess and I like listening to relaxing asmr ,cause I know it’s going to be relaxing. If the thumbnail was click bait maybe I’d be more likely to click it but I’m going to watch it anyway so it doesn’t make a difference to me.

I’ve been watching you for about 2 and a half years ago. As I’ve grown older I only really use UA-cam for asmr before I sleep or while I work and I want to say that every time you post it makes me happy. You are one of the only channels I follow and it will be sad to see you go if that’s how life plays out. Thank you for the peace you brought me.

Hi ASMR Chess, you were the first chess content creator that I ever found!
I took a break from chess for a while, then found it again through other content creators
Coming back to your channel with this widened perspective, I must say:
What a great thing, having such a calm and relaxing way of learning!
Your explanations are great, and it feels like chess is meant to be soft spoken

I have noticed a lot of the smaller channels i watch (sub 1 mil) have been getting an awful lot less views as they did this time last year. I kind of put the blame on UA-cam shorts and how that is moving people's attention away from more classic channels and towards more shorts-orientated channels. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually it comes out that most users of youtube scroll through shorts without even looking at the normal youtube home page. Just unfortunately seems to be the way social media in general is going since the rise of Tik Tok.
But on a more positive note, i just wanted to say how happy i am to have found your channel. It has given me a new hobby to practice, and your videos have been amply supplying me with material while I climb through the ELO ranks. Top notch content all round.

Just wanted to show my support. I’ve been subbed to for years and remember back then when your channel has taken a break. I like that you post much more now. I wanted to say that while I hate clickbait it’s just the nature of the beast and a majority of creators use some form of clickbait because UA-cam incentivizes it. There is a clear line between full on click bait vs slightly embellishing the title. I wish you luck this year and always love watching your videos.

Hope the youtube game sorts itself out, feels so random and unfair that great content like yours is at the mercy of the algorithm. Hope you can find satisfaction though in the knowledge that your videos ARE a force for good in the world, and a source of comfort and enjoyment for many (myself included).

Hi, I first watched this video when it came out, 13 days ago now. Today it came to my mind. I wanted to come back to it now just to say that when I reached 35:32 I started crying. Today I just came back to say that I love your content and what you do. Keep going. You deserve the best.
