I've been waiting for some YT reviews of this one so thanks for posting! I'm on the fence whether I grab this one or not. Initially my early impressions of the VH Debut One-Step was positive and I enjoyed it, but after playing it a few times, Eddie's guitar would almost rattle my fillings! Probably a bit too much so I had reservations about VH II. I'm still on the fence considering I am in Canada so it will cost over $200 CAD to get it. Yikes!
Ok I have both the Chris Bellman and I ordered my 1 step almost same day pre-order hit I received copy #00398 on Thursday, I thought for sure you would mention Spanish Fly DOA and Women in Love, I’m like the rest while I like the 1 Step I don’t hear that much 0f a difference if any than the CB issue. I also have the VH I, I still will order the Fair Warning and Women and Children if they release it but will stop there as Diver Down and 84 don’t move me enough to spend $130, I would also mention I think for the money the packaging could be improved maybe a book for what you get from Analogue Productions for $60 seems like a deal comparatively speaking. Anyways enjoy your reviews keep up the good work.
The Mofi One Steps are comparable to the Analogue Productions UHQR series which are $150 for a similar product. The UHQR packaging is certainly cool but it is super bulky. I prefer the One Step packaging from a storage standpoint. They used to come in a big box with a bunch of literature about the process but they changed it right before the Van Halen One Steps came out.
That particular album being a Van Halen Fanatic always comes in a bit hot on the high end side. Being a drummer I always felt the cymbals were a bit too crisp. But out of the Van Halen records they did with Dave that weren't done at 5150 (1984).That one sounds really good over all.
MoFi pushed the very bright button again. Eddie's guitar sounds like its played through a solid state amp and Daves vocals are very unnatural sounding. My best sounding copy is the 1979 L.A. Promo cut. System- McIntosh 2102 tube amp. McIntosh C2300 tube pre-amp, McIntosh MT5 turntable, Clearaudio Concerto V2 MC cart, Sonos Faber Amati G5 speakers.
For the record, the late Eddie Van Halen personally approved the Chris Bellman cuts. This was documented in an interview with Chris Bellman conducted by Caropop on one of their podcasts.
Well Jimmy Page has approved all the LED Zeppelin remasters and they are not the best sounding versions and Prince approved the 2014 remaster of Purple Rain and it sounds awful. I rarely share the opinion of the artist as to which one sounds best.
Interesting...sounds like MoFi is trying to press their records unnecessarily loud. Also interesting because there's another YT reviewer who said the MoFi beats the Bellman in every respect. IMO, I only own original/early pressings and the Bellman remasters of all their Roth-era albums. There's some more detail in the Bellman cuts, separate from the fact that they tend to be a little brighter, but also the Bellman remasters have a little less "meanness." However -- it varies from song to song. Hard to say which pressing is better because of this. If it were only one song to a/b, it would be an easier answer
I just have to laugh at all the chasing down a rabbit hole to find in your mind what the absolute best copy of a record is Seems like no matter how many copies you have of the same record you’ve always buying it over and over again For what??? For some minor differences in the sound??? Good luck finding the best version Seems like audiophiles are never satisfied

My Chris Bellman All Analog cut is the Only copy I’ll ever need. If I want digital I’ll buy a cd or stream it 👍
Once again digital streaming is not the same as DSD one step vinyl. Completely different

How about the SACD version of the album? How does that compare to other versions?
@@FrankieLovesElvis I haven’t gotten it yet. It has been on back order for months. It just got back in stock so I expect to get it shortly though.

I agree, the JP 2013-2014 pressings are pure 💩

The 2010 RTI Bellman cut is better than the 2015 Rhino Bellman cut and this new One-Step.

That is how it works, always wanting the best sounding version. That is the definition of what is to be an audiophile.😎
