I always thought Chrysler for many years built a better product than any other make but they did have their quirks... You could always tell who had a problem with the ballast coil resistor by the extra part left in the glove box. Hardest yet most obvious and easy to replace no spark situation you'll ever have. I miss larger full-sized American cars.
My dad had a 74 Monaco and it was a great car. 360 2v had outstanding power and easy on gas. It never gave a bit of trouble until it was written off in a collision. It survived to become a demolition derby car. I liked it as well or better than the Mercury Grand Marquis that followed it.
We had 74 Monaco with soft top. 360 2 barrel Carter. The bulk of my teenage driving was in that car. It seems to have so much power. It would burn tires from a standing start.

@@jamesslick4790 Back then it was one of Chrysler's compacts or a really badly designed Chevy Vega if you wanted a "small" car (the Ford Maverick wasn't really a compact or subcompact car, I guess you could include the Pinto but back then it had the exploding gas tank problem). I had an uncle that drove a Chevy Vega, it needed a new engine at 40K and he dumped it when it needed a second replacement engine at 80K. Also, my ass didn't fit in it very well. I knew someone with a Valiant, too. He drove that car through at least 15 Michigan winters without major problems (he also drove it to the bar the day he celebrated his 100th birthday). I drove a 1967 Imperial almost daily back then and got to 1982 without major issues (I also had a couple of pickups through that time).
I'm a GM guy (raised in a MoPar family, LOL) But I will say that Chrysler always did instrumentation right. REAL gauges! Even on the low priced models.
I had an uncle with a 1974 Fury four door sedan. It was a nice car and at least it passed the extra large ass test I give all cars when I ride in them.
I was expecting to see'73 models, not '74s. But I will say this: the '74-'78 were the best driving full-size Mopars ever built. Too bad they were introduced a few weeks before the first Arab oil embargo.

The 70's Chrysler Full size no doubt was a well engineered car, and sure, they might have been better in a few regards, but right or wrong, they always just felt cheap and not up to the level of the other two. That being said, I wouldn't turn a nice one down today!
In the 70's they were all so shitty and cheap as far as fit, finish and quality trim. A friend had a 73 basic Mustang. The wheel covers were so cheap. They were like aluminum pie plates.
Nope,Chrysler cars felt better,no rattles and interior held up better.. I sold these in the 1980's as used cars and the GM/Ford's were usually missing parts..
I've owned all three of them. The Mop handled better than the other two, but the Chevys needed the least maintenance. Fords were just boxes on top of springs. They wanted to roll over on straight roads...

All three were good cars, BUT since GM,FoMoCo and MoPar had this shit down to a science, and all three had a loyal pack of buyers, ALL of them HAD to "reach" to point out even the SLIGHTEST difference to woo any "fence sitters".

After I broke my leg when I was 16, I went to look at 1972 Plymouth Fury w/ 400 cid big block and bought it from a farmer for $300!

He is thinking about selling it and I will jump on it when he is ready to make a deal and sell it to me! If I was into Fords, I would have bought a 1974-1976 Grand Torino like on Starsky & Hutch! One of my friends had a 1973 Grand Torino and he made it into a Street Machine and boy did it go! My dad bought a brand new 74 Plymouth Fury III 400 2bbl powder blue with a white vinyl roof, we drove it till 1983 when my brother in law bought it, it had 200,000 miles at that time he drove it another 100.000 miles, the best car my dad owned, only 2 things he didn't like about it. The small glovebox that everything got messed up when closing it and the flow through ventilation, we lived on a farm and had to drive 4 miles of gravel road to drive to get to the highway in that time it was so dusty in the car you couldn't hardly see anyone in the backseat, he plugged if off no more dust.
I had a whole box of those super 8 sound movies in carts that were meant for a demo player. I'd take the film out and roll it onto regular super 8 reels. I was about 11 at the time and had a lot of fun watching those.

Remember 5 digit odometer,meaning after 99,999 they rolled to 00,000..in the 1980's these cars had 200,000 miles on average! People bought one with 78,000 on the odometer,but it was 178,000 or 278,000 as they held up well,interiors,carpet didnt wear,pedals never wore out and people thought the 178,000 mile car was 78,000! My Dad put 350,000 miles on his 75 Dodge with no engine work,orig rear diff..Replaced the trans at 210,000 because I drove the car for 3 months and did brake stands and floored it all the time..He then didn't let me drive it and I fixed my car I had lol..Car never left him stranded anywhere!!
The C bodies of 74 thru 78 were rock solid on quality and durability. Post 1978 R body had poor qualities, but the C Body and B Body had no quality issues...no reliability issues either in the C body, Volare and Aspen and Cordoba with the Lean Burn is a different story, but not the C bodies. On the ignorant Money Comment. Look at the financials, 1972 and 1973 were record breaking years for Chrysler Corp and it's profits. Again, you're lack of knowledge cause you to mis identify the issues.

Chrysler did copy the impala for this 74 model, this interior in particular is more impala like than prior years. It was a super nice interior that was finally competitive with Chevy. Great glove box, climate control, it was push button even. 10 ac outlets;, 2 for floor air, 2 for lap air. Even the central location of the push buttons was great. Remote passenger side mirror was way cool. The map lights were great. The tilt telescopic steering wheel with the thumb rim blow horn looked and felt great. Great transmission and engine also made this an awesome car. Electronic ignition was advanced too. These lasted a long time as someone noted, after the quality control issues were repaired after a few shop visits.

There were few in corporate leadership who had much engineering experience or vision. Iacocca was a rare exception. The OPEC oil embargo? The writing was on the wall; but additional R & D and retooling would cause a dip in earnings… continue with business as usual. ‘It was just bad timing.’ Right, that's what top-management for big banks told Congress in 2008… oh, and Detroit needed a bailout too. After the bloats of the 70s came the squats of the 80s. Fuel injection… bi-i-i-g mystery, diesel passenger cars… yup, let’s put diesel compression in a gas-block. Chrysler was doing pretty well with the K-platform; luckily Iacocca got fired from Ford, and was able to apply his talent to bail out Chrysler, with a loan from the government… which was payed, in full, ahead of schedule. He created markets (the Minivan), instead of creating gimmicks; he took on CAFE, and updated Chrysler’s organizational structure and assembly-lines. I thought it was really impressive. During which time, GM, inevitably, nigh bankrupted itself on the X-platform... even though the Chevy Citation was one of their best-sellers!... and Ford was still out to lunch; each having their pick-up line as a crutch. Iacocca was line the Steve Jobs of the automotive industry, and nothing truly innovative, truly fresh happened since then in American auto-manufacturing until Tesla. During which time, Japanese auto-companies trounced the U.S. market, and rightfully so. Nothing like this was happening in the 70s, because these manufacturers were not creating innovative, competitive products; Ford, GM, and Chrysler more or less aped one another, with lines under each umbrella aping one another, and spent more on marketing than on the actual cars themselves. And again, they’ve missed the boat on the whole EV market, and are years behind Tesla. Luckily, they can stay in the black with their lux-trux, a familiar pattern.

My whole life I thought Chrysler products were a joke. My wife really wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Since Ford (the best brand of the 90’s) and Chevy had destroyed their suvs. I reluctantly agreed to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. OMG that is is an amazing truck. It’s a 2015 and has been 100% trouble free. It convinced me to buy a. 2016 Ram (I call it a Dodge) 1500. Chrysler makes the best products and I am a sold now.
They show the electronic ignition but they forgot to show you the Cost or the pile of Ballast resistors and modules and pick ups you had to keep with you at all times HA!!!
Eugene Piurkowski I work on cars as a profession and still do and you would be on the good side of that because we replaced a lot of all of those parts back in the day lots of no starts or loosing spark when hot etc.
Apparently being 2 inches shorter makes for easier parking. And having the fuel filler on the side panel is inconvenient compared to having it on the back.
Chrysler Australia had better cars than GM (Holden) and Ford Australia too. The locally designed Valiant's engineering was light years ahead of the opposition. Lots of features like electronic ignition from 1973 on, double skinned boot (trunk) lid, standard disc brakes (from 1971 on) and superior six cylinder engines that gave V8 performance with the economy of a six. Huge radiators took care of the engine cooling in the cruel Aussie summers and the instrument panel showed not just fuel and speed like Holden, but temp and amps too. They were also the first with the VK Valiant to adopt hazzard flashers as standard and used their connection with Mitsubishi to install a column mounted stalk to operate the turn signals, headlight flashers, high and low beam and wipers and windscreen washers. Speaking of the VK Valiant, an Aussie magazine did a comparison between it, the HX Holden Kingswood and the XC Ford Falcon. The Valiant used a 245 cubic inch six which was standard. The Holden used a 202 which was their largest six and the Falcon was running a 200. The Valiant got 23.9 mpg, the Holden was 20.2 mpg while the Falcon got 17.9 mpg. The standing quarter mile had the Valiant cover it in 18.6 seconds, the Falcon one second behind and the Holden at 20.3 seconds. Like the adds here in Aussie said, "Extra care in engineering, it makes a difference"
The unitized body or monocoque construction, while lighter than traditional frame & body design, has a noisier interior. The rubber blocks between the frame and the body provide substantial isolation from suspension vibration, it's another reason I like my BMW I3.
It was said that 1974 was a bad year for that big investment in new tooling, but in my opinionation, girth was still everything no matter who made it. And my bone headed peers were too busy lusting after all the Toyotas, Nissan and Mazdas - and even Porsches - of the world!!
Lots of Chrysler product videos (and filmstrips) where, of course, their product is always the best. And in some areas (handling) they often were best in class. But I've always wondered where did the GM and Ford comparison films go. Yes, I've seen a few - but not nearly as many.
Ford made some, GM made a lot. But these old promo films weren't meant to last. Most were probably tossed in the trash 9 months in to the model year. Chrysler probably did more comparison advertising because they were usually the other guys. Regularly third place, sales wise, in a three man race. They had to remind people that Chrysler was an option when they were cross shopping GM and FoMoCo.
Why were they comparing the dodge (in Plymouth's market) to the ford and Chevy. I assumed dodge was more upmarket more in line with Pontiac and mercury, no wonder Plymouth died out with all Chryslers brands cannibalizing each other's marketplaces
Plymouth and Dodges of the era were essentially the same in terms of price and equipment. Plymouths existed to give Chrysler dealers something more reasonably priced to compete with Dodge dealerships. Back then there were Chrysler/Plymouth dealerships and then standalone Dodge dealerships. May have been dealers that sold all 3 brands in some markets. Competition is good. Notice Chrysler puts both the Plymouth and the Dodge up against the other makes? That means the customer has 2 options -- Dodge or Plymouth -- over the GM and Ford brands. And if locally Dodge and Chrysler/Plymouth dealers are both competing against each other, that means more buyers for Chrysler Corporation as a whole. It's like when Buick, Olds, Pontiac, Cadillac and Chevy all had their own V8s and competed against each other and Ford/Chrysler. All this muck racking meant more sales for GM as a whole -- no matter f the customer went with a '55 Buick Special or a '55 Olds Rocket 88.
Yes the 74 big Dodge WAS thee car for the aspiring '71 Buick owner on a budget!. I had a '71 Electra 225, I noticed this WAYY back when! They did this again in 1979 when the "R" body Plymouth and Chryslers "aped" the '77 LeSabre/Electra! To Be fair, the first Ford "panther" platform car (1979 LTD) stole their looks from the '78 Olds 88/98! GM got revenge in 1988 When The Cadillac Brougham offered the "premier" vinyl roof option, Looking for all the world like an '80 New Yorker from the side! LOL!
This model year didnt have them...Easy replaced and best emission regulation option,as you can convert it back for cheap and in 1 hour..Swap the lean burn distributor ,ecu and add a bigger carb and you had 100 more h.p! As lean burn robbed power!
OPEC quadrupled the Oil Price, after the '73 Embargo. It doubled Again, in 1979-after the Iran Revolution. That led to cleaner, smaller cars that got Good gas mileage. Modern EV cars are not only Good for our Planet...they will ensure that Oil-Producing nations can no longer hold us Hostage. (Ditto states like Alaska and Texas...But...Too BAD.)
It was a good idea until you added a license plate. I always had to hold the pump handle at a weird angle. Filling often became either a spastic stop/start process, or you had to do it slowly.

I miss being able to look underneath or under the hood and being able to see everything and understand how its put together. I miss NOT having to hook it up (or pay someone) to a computer to figure it out. Sign me up for the junk. I'll gladly trade in what I have now.

This was (Almost) the beginning of the END for Chrysler-along with the rest of the "Big Three." They had inefficient, polluting cars like MOPAR Muscle, along with ridiculously Huge cars; e.g. the Newport. Iaccoca turned things around with K-Cars and the Minivan. HE was an Ass, Too, However; he did Nothing to save autoworkers' jobs.

The full-size Chrysler products from all divisions in 1974 - 1978 were weak sellers compared to FoMoCo and GM. A lot of problems with electrical components and lean burn carburetors plus overall low resale value and poor fit and finish. The 1974 - 1975 Imperial and 1976 - 1978 New Yorker were the best-looking but all the other models are completely forgettable. GM had the outstanding drivetrain...350 V-8 and Turbo hydramatic. But my favorite were the big cars from FoMoCo....the Lincoln Continental and Mercury Marquis were both exceptional.
LOL No, Lean Burn wasn't even offered on the Gran Fury or the Royal Monaco until 1977 and not even on all Engines, it's last year for the Monaco and Fury and it wasn't even on cars in High Altitudes or California. Very few of these series of cars had Lean Burn, you're factually wrong. Additionally, Fords sales were weak too and it was due to the Gas Crisis and Recession, plus GM introduced an all new line of Full Sized Cars for 1977. Chrysler New Yorker and Newport Sales INCREASED in 1976 and 1977 over 74 and 75. There was nothing wrong with the quality of these cars.
The last last generation of Imperial look like Dodge Dynasty and before that was a K car version That is no damn Imperial they are suppose be big I would take the 81 to 83 before the latest ones

Jim Johns - I do believe they stated in a video 1-2 years ago that some UNSCRUPULOUS YT'ers STOLE some videos for THEIR pages and they had to put some serious WATERMARKS, so it'd easily identifiable if someone tried that again. This time "the Periscope bug" wasn't there, but the TIMER serves as a watermark there. (I love the "submarine sound" they have experimented with in some of their recent videos, as an AURAL MARK, like AT&T's)

You're confusing the 1979 Dodge and the Glove Box doors, I've a hald dozen of these and never has a glove box door fallin off, it's basically impossible, the Dodge St Regis of 79 thru 81 were notorious for Glove Box doors snapping at the plastic hinge. I've never seen seats in these split. My two 77 Royal Monaco both have their original seats with no splits and 100K. My 75 Fury had a bit of wear on the shoulder of the drivers seat and that's it. Nothing split and its 45 years old and 75K miles on it.

I always thought Chrysler for many years built a better product than any other make but they did have their quirks... You could always tell who had a problem with the ballast coil resistor by the extra part left in the glove box. Hardest yet most obvious and easy to replace no spark situation you'll ever have.
I miss larger full-sized American cars.

My dad had a 74 Monaco and it was a great car. 360 2v had outstanding power and easy on gas. It never gave a bit of trouble until it was written off in a collision. It survived to become a demolition derby car. I liked it as well or better than the Mercury Grand Marquis that followed it.
We had 74 Monaco with soft top. 360 2 barrel Carter. The bulk of my teenage driving was in that car. It seems to have so much power. It would burn tires from a standing start.
I have owned all three manufacturers. And enjoyed them all . I will probably always will.
And today you'll find more Impalas still on the road than both the Galaxie and Fury, combined.

@@jamesslick4790 Back then it was one of Chrysler's compacts or a really badly designed Chevy Vega if you wanted a "small" car (the Ford Maverick wasn't really a compact or subcompact car, I guess you could include the Pinto but back then it had the exploding gas tank problem). I had an uncle that drove a Chevy Vega, it needed a new engine at 40K and he dumped it when it needed a second replacement engine at 80K. Also, my ass didn't fit in it very well. I knew someone with a Valiant, too. He drove that car through at least 15 Michigan winters without major problems (he also drove it to the bar the day he celebrated his 100th birthday). I drove a 1967 Imperial almost daily back then and got to 1982 without major issues (I also had a couple of pickups through that time).

The 70's Chrysler Full size no doubt was a well engineered car, and sure, they might have been better in a few regards, but right or wrong, they always just felt cheap and not up to the level of the other two. That being said, I wouldn't turn a nice one down today!

I've owned all three of them. The Mop handled better than the other two, but the Chevys needed the least maintenance. Fords were just boxes on top of springs. They wanted to roll over on straight roads...

My dad bought a brand new 74 Plymouth Fury III 400 2bbl powder blue with a white vinyl roof, we drove it till 1983 when my brother in law bought it, it had 200,000 miles at that time he drove it another 100.000 miles, the best car my dad owned, only 2 things he didn't like about it. The small glovebox that everything got messed up when closing it and the flow through ventilation, we lived on a farm and had to drive 4 miles of gravel road to drive to get to the highway in that time it was so dusty in the car you couldn't hardly see anyone in the backseat, he plugged if off no more dust.
I had a whole box of those super 8 sound movies in carts that were meant for a demo player. I'd take the film out and roll it onto regular super 8 reels. I was about 11 at the time and had a lot of fun watching those.

Remember 5 digit odometer,meaning after 99,999 they rolled to 00,000..in the 1980's these cars had 200,000 miles on average! People bought one with 78,000 on the odometer,but it was 178,000 or 278,000 as they held up well,interiors,carpet didnt wear,pedals never wore out and people thought the 178,000 mile car was 78,000!
My Dad put 350,000 miles on his 75 Dodge with no engine work,orig rear diff..Replaced the trans at 210,000 because I drove the car for 3 months and did brake stands and floored it all the time..He then didn't let me drive it and I fixed my car I had lol..Car never left him stranded anywhere!!
The C bodies of 74 thru 78 were rock solid on quality and durability. Post 1978 R body had poor qualities, but the C Body and B Body had no quality issues...no reliability issues either in the C body, Volare and Aspen and Cordoba with the Lean Burn is a different story, but not the C bodies. On the ignorant Money Comment. Look at the financials, 1972 and 1973 were record breaking years for Chrysler Corp and it's profits. Again, you're lack of knowledge cause you to mis identify the issues.

Chrysler did copy the impala for this 74 model, this interior in particular is more impala like than prior years. It was a super nice interior that was finally competitive with Chevy. Great glove box, climate control, it was push button even. 10 ac outlets;, 2 for floor air, 2 for lap air. Even the central location of the push buttons was great. Remote passenger side mirror was way cool. The map lights were great. The tilt telescopic steering wheel with the thumb rim blow horn looked and felt great. Great transmission and engine also made this an awesome car. Electronic ignition was advanced too. These lasted a long time as someone noted, after the quality control issues were repaired after a few shop visits.

Iacocca was a rare exception.
The OPEC oil embargo? The writing was on the wall; but additional R & D and retooling would cause a dip in earnings… continue with business as usual. ‘It was just bad timing.’ Right, that's what top-management for big banks told Congress in 2008… oh, and Detroit needed a bailout too.
After the bloats of the 70s came the squats of the 80s. Fuel injection… bi-i-i-g mystery, diesel passenger cars… yup, let’s put diesel compression in a gas-block. Chrysler was doing pretty well with the K-platform; luckily Iacocca got fired from Ford, and was able to apply his talent to bail out Chrysler, with a loan from the government… which was payed, in full, ahead of schedule. He created markets (the Minivan), instead of creating gimmicks; he took on CAFE, and updated Chrysler’s organizational structure and assembly-lines. I thought it was really impressive. During which time, GM, inevitably, nigh bankrupted itself on the X-platform... even though the Chevy Citation was one of their best-sellers!... and Ford was still out to lunch; each having their pick-up line as a crutch. Iacocca was line the Steve Jobs of the automotive industry, and nothing truly innovative, truly fresh happened since then in American auto-manufacturing until Tesla. During which time, Japanese auto-companies trounced the U.S. market, and rightfully so.
Nothing like this was happening in the 70s, because these manufacturers were not creating innovative, competitive products; Ford, GM, and Chrysler more or less aped one another, with lines under each umbrella aping one another, and spent more on marketing than on the actual cars themselves.
And again, they’ve missed the boat on the whole EV market, and are years behind Tesla. Luckily, they can stay in the black with their lux-trux, a familiar pattern.

My whole life I thought Chrysler products were a joke. My wife really wanted a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Since Ford (the best brand of the 90’s) and Chevy had destroyed their suvs. I reluctantly agreed to a Jeep Grand Cherokee. OMG that is is an amazing truck. It’s a 2015 and has been 100% trouble free. It convinced me to buy a. 2016 Ram (I call it a

Eugene Piurkowski I work on cars as a profession and still do and you would be on the good side of that because we replaced a lot of all of those parts back in the day lots of no starts or loosing spark when hot etc.

Apparently being 2 inches shorter makes for easier parking. And having the fuel filler on the side panel is inconvenient compared to having it on the back.
Chrysler Australia had better cars than GM (Holden) and Ford Australia too. The locally designed Valiant's engineering was light years ahead of the opposition. Lots of features like electronic ignition from 1973 on, double skinned boot (trunk) lid, standard disc brakes (from 1971 on) and superior six cylinder engines that gave V8 performance with the economy of a six. Huge radiators took care of the engine cooling in the cruel Aussie summers and the instrument panel showed not just fuel and speed like Holden, but temp and amps too. They were also the first with the VK Valiant to adopt hazzard flashers as standard and used their connection with Mitsubishi to install a column mounted stalk to operate the turn signals, headlight flashers, high and low beam and wipers and windscreen washers. Speaking of the VK Valiant, an Aussie magazine did a comparison between it, the HX Holden Kingswood and the XC Ford Falcon. The Valiant used a 245 cubic inch six which was standard. The Holden used a 202 which was their largest six and the Falcon was running a 200. The Valiant got 23.9 mpg, the Holden was 20.2 mpg while the Falcon got 17.9 mpg. The standing quarter mile had the Valiant cover it in 18.6 seconds, the Falcon one second behind and the Holden at 20.3 seconds. Like the adds here in Aussie said, "Extra care in engineering, it makes a difference"
The mopars were definitely better looking than other 74’ models.
The unitized body or monocoque construction, while lighter than traditional frame & body design, has a noisier interior. The rubber blocks between the frame and the body provide substantial isolation from suspension vibration, it's another reason I like my BMW I3.

It was said that 1974 was a bad year for that big investment in new tooling, but in my opinionation, girth was still everything no matter who made it. And my bone headed peers were too busy lusting after all the Toyotas, Nissan and Mazdas - and even Porsches - of the world!!
Lots of Chrysler product videos (and filmstrips) where, of course, their product is always the best. And in some areas (handling) they often were best in class. But I've always wondered where did the GM and Ford comparison films go. Yes, I've seen a few - but not nearly as many.
Ford made some, GM made a lot. But these old promo films weren't meant to last. Most were probably tossed in the trash 9 months in to the model year.
Chrysler probably did more comparison advertising because they were usually the other guys. Regularly third place, sales wise, in a three man race. They had to remind people that Chrysler was an option when they were cross shopping GM and FoMoCo.

Why were they comparing the dodge (in Plymouth's market) to the ford and Chevy. I assumed dodge was more upmarket more in line with Pontiac and mercury, no wonder Plymouth died out with all Chryslers brands cannibalizing each other's marketplaces
Plymouth and Dodges of the era were essentially the same in terms of price and equipment. Plymouths existed to give Chrysler dealers something more reasonably priced to compete with Dodge dealerships. Back then there were Chrysler/Plymouth dealerships and then standalone Dodge dealerships. May have been dealers that sold all 3 brands in some markets. Competition is good. Notice Chrysler puts both the Plymouth and the Dodge up against the other makes? That means the customer has 2 options -- Dodge or Plymouth -- over the GM and Ford brands. And if locally Dodge and Chrysler/Plymouth dealers are both competing against each other, that means more buyers for Chrysler Corporation as a whole. It's like when Buick, Olds, Pontiac, Cadillac and Chevy all had their own V8s and competed against each other and Ford/Chrysler. All this muck racking meant more sales for GM as a whole -- no matter f the customer went with a '55 Buick Special or a '55 Olds Rocket 88.
Never mind how it took Dodge an additional three years to crib the Monaco front and rear from the 71 LeSabre 🙄🙄🙄

They did this again in 1979 when the "R" body Plymouth and Chryslers "aped" the '77 LeSabre/Electra! To Be fair, the first Ford "panther" platform car (1979 LTD) stole their looks from the '78 Olds 88/98! GM got revenge in 1988 When The Cadillac Brougham offered the "premier" vinyl roof option, Looking for all the world like an '80 New Yorker from the side! LOL!

This model year didnt have them...Easy replaced and best emission regulation option,as you can convert it back for cheap and in 1 hour..Swap the lean burn distributor ,ecu and add a bigger carb and you had 100 more h.p! As lean burn robbed power!

It was a good idea until you added a license plate. I always had to hold the pump handle at a weird angle. Filling often became either a spastic stop/start process, or you had to do it slowly.

Sadly, the 'fuselage styling' really hurt Mopar across all its lines. Nineteen sixty-nine was such a sad year for them.

The full-size Chrysler products from all divisions in 1974 - 1978 were weak sellers compared to FoMoCo and GM. A lot of problems with electrical components and lean burn carburetors plus overall low resale value and poor fit and finish. The 1974 - 1975 Imperial and 1976 - 1978 New Yorker were the best-looking but all the other models are completely forgettable. GM had the outstanding drivetrain...350 V-8 and Turbo hydramatic. But my favorite were the big cars from FoMoCo....the Lincoln Continental and Mercury Marquis were both exceptional.
LOL No, Lean Burn wasn't even offered on the Gran Fury or the Royal Monaco until 1977 and not even on all Engines, it's last year for the Monaco and Fury and it wasn't even on cars in High Altitudes or California. Very few of these series of cars had Lean Burn, you're factually wrong. Additionally, Fords sales were weak too and it was due to the Gas Crisis and Recession, plus GM introduced an all new line of Full Sized Cars for 1977. Chrysler New Yorker and Newport Sales INCREASED in 1976 and 1977 over 74 and 75. There was nothing wrong with the quality of these cars.

Chrysler's last year for the 440 was in 78 They should have kept making them GM still made the 454 and 455 and Ford still made the 460 Chrysler could have put them in their trucks and vans

Jim Johns - I do believe they stated in a video 1-2 years ago that some UNSCRUPULOUS YT'ers STOLE some videos for THEIR pages and they had to put some serious WATERMARKS, so it'd easily identifiable if someone tried that again.
This time "the Periscope bug" wasn't there, but the TIMER serves as a watermark there. (I love the "submarine sound" they have experimented with in some of their recent videos, as an AURAL MARK, like AT&T's)

@@Pisti846 - but since there are just TOO MANY UNSCRUPULOUS YT'ers that want to profit from some PUBLIC DOMAIN VIDEOS, which Periscope themselves barely make anything (they make it up on the VOLUME of videos and most of the money goes into preserving MORE VIDEOS anyway) they have to PROTECT THEMSELVES.
I have seen myself certain YT accounts that use Discovery + History Channel entire docs as if those were in the public domain (which I am sure they aren't). Good thing Discovery and A&E aren't as possessive as others there....
Here's the issue: Tens of thousands of films similar to this one have been lost forever -- destroyed -- and many others are at risk. Our company preserves these precious bits of history one film at a time. How do we afford to do that? By selling them as stock footage to documentary filmmakers and broadcasters. If we did not have a counter, we could not afford to post films like these online, and no films would be preserved. It's that simple. So we ask you to bear with the watermark and timecodes.
In the past we tried many different systems including placing our timer at the bottom corner of our videos. What happened? Unscrupulous UA-cam users downloaded our vids, blew them up so the timer was not visible, and re-posted them as their own content! We had to use content control to have the videos removed and shut down these channels. It's hard enough work preserving these films and posting them, without having to spend precious time dealing with policing thievery -- and not what we devoted ourselves to do.

You're confusing the 1979 Dodge and the Glove Box doors, I've a hald dozen of these and never has a glove box door fallin off, it's basically impossible, the Dodge St Regis of 79 thru 81 were notorious for Glove Box doors snapping at the plastic hinge. I've never seen seats in these split. My two 77 Royal Monaco both have their original seats with no splits and 100K. My 75 Fury had a bit of wear on the shoulder of the drivers seat and that's it. Nothing split and its 45 years old and 75K miles on it.
