For those interested, that's the modern Jotul 118. It has the lattice window and it's EPA certified.

We have a Jotul woodstove that was installed in our new log home. We just moved in on May 6th. This is our first winter using it. It is a much larger stove than what you have. I will have to try this test once we get some colder weather here in Northeast PA.

That's a great wood burner we don't have wood heat yet have one just not installed got a old pipe coming out of the basement thought was to use that and run it up.
We had a house before. It had a old free standing stove. It was in our basement heated close to 3000 sq feet pretty decent.
I built an addition last year and needed a heat source for it as our current furnace wasn't big enough. Before the addition we heated with a wood stove and the kids always complained that their rooms were colder than the rest of the house. So, we decided that we would go the route of an outdoor boiler since wood is still free for us cutting off our property. It heats the addition with baseboards and a heat exchanger in the forced air furnace and for the hot water. Kids are much happier now because their rooms are nice and toasty and they get unlimited hot water. I still heat the pole barn with a wood stove though. Wouldn't be able to function out there without it.

Our wood stove is LOPI. During the 2018 polar vortex when we had -44 wind chill we had the temp up to 76 in the living room

Pretty impressive, that Jotul really cranks the heat. Cool test, I'm heating 576 sq.ft. with a small wood stove made by Russo. It heats up pretty quick but my place is tiny so that helps lol, have to time it and get back to you. Nothing like wood heat when it's single digits out there.

Nice efficient stove! We have an old Fisher Grandma Bear. We will be upgrading within the year- Its 40 years old or more, so time.

Never really checked for time We have an airtight fireplace insert . It takes a bit to heat up the box itself but it then has a temp controlled blower that warms the house pretty fast. Our problem is when it's on the furnace never kicks on and the way our house is layed ou,t the bedrooms stay pretty cool

I use eastern white pine to get temps back up in the morning, then I switch to red maple or oak when/if I don't want to load the stove a lot and have a nice moderate fire.

Pretty good for that little stove. I would have to go by memory as wood stoves are in my past seems to me if we didn't get up at 4 am it would be below 50 in the house and yes it took a couple of hours to get it warm again. Now the geothermal just runs and it never is cold and I don't need to bust my butt cutting wood lol. Cheers

@@adventurerhoades There is a lot of difference between those who grew up with city heat and power and those that grew up with wood heat and maybe some power. These days people talk about going off grid which is ok, but when you work a large bit of life getting on grid it seems a step backwards to go off grid, but people now want all the entitlements of grid living in a off grid world which in my mind is not off grid it is having your own grid an entirely different thing. I will have to run that test someday when we are in full winter. I have the Hearthstone Clydesdales fireplace insert. Love the stove, only use it to heat the family/great room. Speed to heat the room was never a deciding factor what we love about the stove is that it burns efficient and keeps the room warm for an extremely long time. In the market for a free standing stove like what you have for the summer cabin in Lewiston, MI.
Our house is 1080 Sq feet. It does great for this size space. Your insert sounds really nice too. Lewiston area is nice. Love tallys log cabin bar great burgers :)
Just ran the test. It took a few minutes shy of two hours for my insert to raise the temp from 64° to 74°.

Two hours ain't bad for a small stove to heat the entire house. I don't know how long my small Jotul would take. We have a drafty old farmhouse. However, when our furnace was down for three weeks recently, the Jotul and a cheap no-name wood stove did a pretty good job of heating up one end of the house pretty quickly.

Nice stove you’ve got there!! We have a Pacific Energy, Summit stove. I really like it. Before we had a cheaper stove from Sears & there’s a nice difference. It’s usually 62 in the morning on nicer days. It takes about 4 hrs to warm it up. Colder weather the thermostat is set at 66. When we’re chilled, we can’t handle a cooler house. Last year we got a bunch of poplar & that’s what we’re burning now & it’s heat output is pathetic. Siberian Elm is about our hardest wood & that can heat decently & quicker. I miss the elm this year. We have some but not enough. Well I guess I better burn up the poplar to make room for more elm. 😃

Soft woods are frustrating. I had some poplar last year mixed in with the hard woods and a bunch of basswood mixed in this year. It burns just fine but the BTUs it puts off is pretty low. You have to burn a ton of it to get the same amount of energy out of it as something like ash, maple or beech. I really only cut the basswood because I have a TON of it on the property and it's in the way of getting to the hardwoods.

It worked because ur house outside have snows. My house outside just cold no snows that means it should heat up a lot faster.
A little insulation helps.
I heat 1800sqft with a Coal Chubby stove. 70k btu max. It heats the house well. On the really cold days I'd have to run it hot if I got behind the eight ball. But it throws a ton of heat. Helps to run the blower or a box fan. I also have a stove top fan that moves some air.

@@adventurerhoades I live in North Central Massachusetts. The Chubby Stoves are still made on the South Shore of Massachusetts near Plymouth. Great stoves to burn coal in. I like the Glenwood Oak and Modern Oak Stoves too. They have the best grates.
Great video! How long will this stove burn on a full load of wood?
Probably 6-8 hour range. Oak is best for Long lasting coals. Very happy with it in this house. 1080 Sq feet. Plus it doesn't take much space in the living room. Not wide but will hold like 20 inch length.
Put more than one stick of wood at a time if you want fast heat
How big was the room that was being heated? How tall are the ceilings? I assume it has good insulation. Looking at buying a Jotul 602.
House is 1080 sq feet I'd say all the house is warm, however half 540 is a bit warmer. 8 ft ceiling
We use to use the ole polar stove. We upgraded and I truly dont know what this one is. Heats up the house with the back 2 bedrooms staying chilly.
Still feels better than outside🥶. I dont know how the animals do it🤔.

Thanks for the video, gotta know... where did you get the Black Bear CB112? All I can find is the 602 or if you're lucky, a 118. Also, what size is the flue exit? Most smaller Jotuls I see have (like yours) a smaller 4-5" flue with what looks like an adapter up to a standard 6". Thanks bud
The stove pipe is 6 inches. The stove is the black bear 118. We looked hard at stove stores. We found this one. It was painted white for a customer. They canceled the order. The store painted it back black. It works great for our use. I sent link where we found it

My place is less than 300sqft and I'm struggling to heat one room with my tiny Apple Pie stove. I've just tested it using smaller logs and I'm up about 4 degrees to 18°C in 2 and a half hours, with the other rooms closed off. It is poorly insulated but I was expecting it to heat my whole home like a sauna!

It ran for many years. There is possibly a left over out there. We love it. Not sure it fits the emissions criteria anymore. I'd get another one if I was in the market

I have a Jotul F118 like this one but without the hot plate option. I have had this for many years. I need to change the gasket on the lid but cannot find any information from Jotul about the type and this stove is no longer made. I'm wondering if you can help please ? In my local store there are flat gaskets and cylindrical ones. My existing one looks flat but I suspect that it is because of the pressure of the lid. Do you have any info about the right type of gasket required ? This would be really great if you can help. Many thanks !!
I'm sorry I don't. I wonder if you can look on ebay. Maybe even a local chimney sweep may have idea. Have you tried to contact jotul they may have parts

Hello, I need help, I have the same stove, when the door for loading firewood is open and the stove is already heated, then smoke comes out of the air hole from the back from the bottom. it does not matter if the rear damper is closed or open. why is that? are you like that too?
I'm not certain. I've not had that. Do you get good draw on pipe straight up etc? We really love the stove. Hope you get that issue resolved

We do not sell spare parts for it and we had to make new ones ourselves. @@adventurerhoades You too. If You want to compare the speed of heating I can add that the surface of stove is important. The greater the more power and more heat is being emited. 👍
A real test is to SHUT OFF your furnace. The 'delta' for heat from what the house is to comfort is what one needs ( ~ 72 F ) for serious wood heating. The "up from" 60 F ain't a test. We do not have central heat in Northern New England ( Downeast Maine ). The two wood stoves burn 6 to 8 reaL CORDS harvested from our woodlot each year. The up from 60 F is meaningless.
Let's see your test. It was simply showing this house this stove. Nothing to get all worked up about. We have good winters here. I'm glad to burn. I'm glad I don't need 8 cord. We love it out that way as well. We have been to the coast & up to Katahdin camping. Have a great summer. Summers are short winters are long. Take care thanks for watching.
