At this point, the park really should be demolished for safety reasons. I get its highsight, but Six Flags never should have purchased this property let alone developed it to the extent they did. It was always going to be a potential flooding nightmare and putting the park further north would have been better.
So many things ciuld have been done over the years. My big gripe is they said they can’t develop a new park on the bad side of town yet they develop baseball fields, hotels, concert venues, etc. for it.
@@naomivought9317 That is just stupid. I feel sorry for those who live nearby and have to look at that everyday. Imagine trying to sell your home and property values are already bad to begin with. I certainly wouldn't want to buy a home and it be so depressing. They need to spend the money, demolish the park, clear the land and move on
Sucks forsure, i’m from michigan and had a friend who moved down there when we were young and alwayssss told me about it. He moved about 10 months before the hurricane hit, was a bad time for them.
It's beyond my comprehension why people will continually rebuild in flood prone areas when they know it will eventually happen again, almost always at taxpayer expense. Build the park, but just not where it will flood. That's painfully obvious.
I fell in love with my high school sweetheart on the Ferris Wheel at Six Flags Over New Orleans. It was the last time we were together. Even though she moved and we don't talk anymore, I still cherish those memories to this day. I will forever miss this park, a key part of my early adult life.
I wish they could just dress it up at Halloween time Have people come take a tour .. Make it one big haunted house.. I love watching the videos of it abandoned.. find your lost love and come to six flags Great adventure in Jackson New Jersey.. I'm confused You said you fell in love on that Ferris wheel but that was also the last time you saw her.... Did you just realize on the ferris wheel how much you loved her and then she had to move??? Sucks bad
I'll believe it when everything is 100% flattened. Hell, knowing how it usually goes...they'll probably get to one to three rides, then conveniently say they're out of funds...
Call the city and fight them on it. That lady was adamant the infrastructure could be saved, I tend to believe her. Troy Henry seems to be deceiving people, and soon as he got in control things got even different. Lets hope something happens here
We don't need another water park. We need a good theme park. The closest ones are 7, too 8 hours away. We have enough water parks. We have one small theme park in Baton Rouge, but it's never opened.
I wish they built it north then it was due to New Orleans being below sea level (that’s what I was told) because it would probably last longer if it was more north but that’s just my opinion
SF should’ve never bought up Jazzland in which ended up being abandoned after Katrina almost 20 years later. It was actually the least profitable park in the chain back then. Buying the park was a huge mistake they did due to its flood prone area it was located in
I believe they chose that area because it was near the highway and also on the edge of the city so people who didn’t want to go in the city could go straight to the thee park which many people did drive hours just to go to SFNO. And then get on the highway and go home.
Not happening. It's swampland. Not smart to build anything there. Enjoyed the video. I find this dump quite fascinating. Saying hi from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦.
The Lake George park also has the Steamin' Demon Arrow corkscrew coaster which was Ragin' Cajun at the former Pontchartrain Beach park which closed Sept. 1983 and the land eventually became the site of a tech school. Doesn't New Orleans still have a little park with a train ride, fun house, carousel, etc.?
im waaaaay far away over in the UK and like you im just kinda sad above all that ill never get to see the park in its eerie abandoned beauty, it was an icon of my childhood and now that im an adult and in theory wouldve been able to get over there in the next few years its just a bit of a shame. i know the area needs it gone i loved closed for storm but watching it frustrated me. i hate that the city chose bayou phoenix when other projects wanted to make it into a theme park again, which from what i can tell is what both the locals and international tourists want. i think at this point too with how famous the location is for its abandoned state, reopening a theme park with nods to that history wouldve been a major hit over another boring and generic looking leisure complex you can find anywhere in the world. its just a disappointing outcome for a beloved place, in my opinion (and as other commenters have pointing out, the flood risk is still gonna be there. id honestly say with modern tech going this route is worse than a new theme park or just building smth nearby but thats just me)
UK friends! Its one of those places I wish I just got to experience once, my friend from back home moved to New Orleans and lived down the street from it, was there a year before the hurricane and he told me stories about the park and showed me old pictures. Told me stories how they’d sneak in and stuff. Pretty big bummer its going to be gone one day
Gotta re record it here new mic the video uploaded has the old mic quality. Got walled lake and a few more michigan parks to go I promise they are coming!
@@kurtbrigandi Now it seems like that Robot Chicken sketch of Mr Six is starting to make sense of what happened to him after the 2005 season. We'll he probably deserves it sarcastically after he, Gary, and Burke closed down Six Flags New Orleans and AstroWorld. I don't know if you ever watch Robot Chicken or the Mr Six sketch at all as a theme park critic.

The city decided not to demolish it because removal of everything would have cost millions. They didn’t want to pay it.

Agree lot of silly stuff behind this whole decades sitting around thing

If the city hasn’t touched the property at all within the last decade+, I doubt anything will happen.
What are they going to do about removing the alligators
Honestly anything is better than letting it sit any longer.
