Hey there Kathlene! Thanks so much for checking out the video, and for the nice comment. The White Clouds were absolutely beautiful, and in the video when we dropped into Antz Basin, the views were second to none. I hope you get a chance to do it sometime. I made a “summary” video of the entire six day trip if you’re interested in checking it out: ua-cam.com/video/OwukU3kKsfY/v-deo.html

Love the vid! Looks like a ton of fun. Question, for you. I watched your previous "summary" video of the 6 day hike. I wonder, when you are on hike, especially that long, do you have any security concerns re: 4 legged or even 2 legged threats? The scenery is gorgeous, but I cannot help but think about the possibility of predators when you are in the middle of no where and a threat could be imminent but help could hours or more away. If so, can you share your strategies. A part of me wants to think everything would be just fine, another part of me would want to strap a bazooka to my back. :) Oh, I saw your video from the other day. I hope you are feeling better and Tess is okay!!! Also, congrats on the new home!!! It looks awesome!!! Be well and stay safe!

Hey thanks Mongo! I'll be happy to try and answer your question. I'm a pretty skeptical person, and I feel like my mind is always thinking about the worst case scenario and about what could go wrong.. so yes I am concerned about people and animals, especially at night. I don't typically show it in my videos, but I carry a small .38 Special revolver in one of my hip belt pockets of my pack and then always make sure that somebody in my group is carrying bear spray. On that trip for instance, between the three of us we had two sidearms and one can of bear spray. At night, I always take my firearm out of my pack and keep it by my pillow in my tent. If something were to come into camp and I needed it, then my hope is that at least I'll have something to defend myself with. Now if something bad were to happen and one of wound up getting injured, I carry my Garmin inReach and could hit the SOS button if need be and help would be on the way no matter where we're at. But hey, if you want to carry a bazooka on your back for safety then I say do it :) Haha I hope you enjoyed that "summary" video of the trip.. I was pretty happy with how that one turned out! And thank you! I had to put that other video on private for Tessa's work, and just never ended up putting it back on. This illness has been a butt kicker! Today, I'm just about back to normal though! Thanks for the awesome comment as always! Hope you're well, and let me know if you have anymore questions regarding the safety aspect of backpacking! -Danny

@@DannyJSchaefer Thanks so much for the response! I live in an urban environment and I cannot wait to start going on some hikes and eventually some camping trips. This type of information is very helpful, because there is not a lot of information out there, at least that I have found, that talk about the things to look out for if you are new to hiking. Most of the info I have come across focuses on the hike and some equipment reviews, but does not discuss the things to look out for. For example, what are the common threats in that area? Wildlife, human, weather, what to do in case of an injury, etc. I remember hearing about a horrible tragedy back in 2016 when a family from Nebraska went to Disney world in Florida. The father and his two-year-old were on the Disney property of a major resort and were ankle deep in a lagoon and an alligator attacked the boy. Tragically, they found the boy the next day. I remember the stories on the news and people were saying, why would that guy do that? I am sure that it was obvious to people who live in FL that things like that could happen. Being from the Midwest, I would never in a million years think that a resort like Disney, focused on kids, would have alligators on the property, especially on a flagship resort in the first place, let alone with absolutely no warnings signs whatsoever. Since that story, I worry about what I do not know when going out into the woods on a hike and try to get as much information as possible, because if you are not sure what the threats are, then you will not be able to properly prepare for them. What is common knowledge for people that live in an area, is completely foreign to people from outside that area. Any videos you could post on this subject would be of great benefit, IMO, to the newcomers to the hobby. Since we are trying to educate ourselves to be as prepared as possible when we go out into the wild. That information is incredibly hard to find. Recently I ran across a video on an unrelated topic and found out there were poisonous scorpions and rattle snakes in MT. Yikes, I would hate to wake up to that in the morning. 😊 Anyway, sorry for taking up so much of your time. I really appreciate the effort you put into your videos. I have been watching them since the beginning. I watch them on my TV, so I cannot comment. Side note, your 4K videos look awesome on my 55 LG OLED. It is like I am there. I also like your drone work in your earlier videos. BTW: I loved the summary video you posted of the trip. Glad you are almost back to normal. My mom is a fan of your channel as well. She is glad you are feeling better, as well!!!

@@MongoWongo777 Sorry for taking a few days to respond! I completely hear where you're coming from, and some of the points you brought up really have my mind going for a potential video one of these days! Thanks for the awesome content idea. You know, I've living in North Idaho for my whole life.. and was raised around camping, hiking.. and the likes so it's never really occurred to me that there's folks from different areas who didn't necessarily grow up around that. It's second nature to me, but I suppose there are definitely individuals out there who have no idea what to do say for a bear encounter.. or even if there's a pesky mountain goat coming into your camp.. I hear you!
Thanks for watching my videos from the beginning - so awesome to hear! You've probably noticed but I've phased a lot of drone footage out in the last year or so.. There's so many new rules and regulations, and I hear of people getting reported to the FAA from their UA-cam posts.. kinda crazy. Anyways, thanks again and tell your mom I said thanks as well! We're about back to 100%, and I'm itching to get back out on the trail. Do you have any plans to do the same and try out some hiking/backpacking soon??

@@MongoWongo777 Also, thinking about your video idea.. You should shoot me some specific questions that you may have regarding hiking/backpacking, and I'll start adding them to a list and maybe use them for a future video!

@@DannyJSchaefer Oh, no worries at all!!! I actually felt bad for leaving you such a long post. I know you are recovering and are probably up to your eyeballs trying to get caught up with things. Thanks for the reply!
Wow, that would be great! I imagine most of your subs are avid outdoors people. As you mentioned, some of us are not but cannot wait to get out there! Any guidance you could give would be greatly appreciated! I got the feeling you lived out there your entire life. Everything seems second nature to you and you are always prepared. I want to go out and enjoy nature, but I also understand that there is a ton I do not know. I don’t want to turn a great time into a nightmare, because I did not prepare myself. I wouldn’t know what to do if I ran into a bear and mountain goats weren’t even on my radar. 😊
You are very welcome! I think the first video I ever watched was the CDA at sunrise video, then the Mineral Ridge hike. I just rewatched them again. You absolutely nailed both of those! I was hooked after that. I am relocating to that area and I wanted to learn more about it. Your camera work, narration, music, and editing were outstanding. It is disappointing to hear about the issues with the FAA. I will miss your ariel footage of those mountain lakes!!! Those were amazing. I cannot believe how crystal clear the water is and the sea of pine trees goes on forever!!! That is literally Heaven on earth.
Hehehehe, I will tell my mom you said thanks. She is also worried you don’t look down enough when you film, she is concerned you might fall. 😊 She also appreciates your love of nature, she sees places on your channel she may never see in person.
Glad to hear you are nearing 100%!!! Looking forward to more content!
I am working on getting in better shape so I can go on my first hike. The distance traveled is one element, but based on your videos, elevation seems to play a big factor as well. I saw you breathing hard on your latest post and realized I would have died far earlier on the hike. 😊. Looks like climbing stairs needs to be part of my workout regimen.
I am hoping my first hike is Mineral Ridge or the Gold Hill trail.
Once again, thanks for taking the time to respond back to my post. Keep up the great work and get well and stay safe!
