quick question how is the audio? Is it consistent with put and dropping or low audio. I just purchase one and I noticed that the audio fluctuates it goes high at first then it goes low. Are you experiencing this? Thanks in advance.
No. Volume should not fluctuate from this transmitter/receiver kit. There are two possible things that come in mind. First, make sure the connection at the end of the LAV Mic is not loose. Some RODE kits come with a LAV mic that has replaceable ends.
Second, make sure you are using the right type of camera. Many cameras enable 'AGC' Automatic Gain Control. You need to make sure your camera is set to 'Manual' audio levels, and you set the levels yourself. If you leave it on 'Auto', the camera will fluctuate volume when things go from quiet to loud. Make sure you go and change that audio setting in your camera. If you do not have this setting, then this is a limitation of your camera.
MrCheesyCam I'm using the Sony a6500 and I don't think you can switch it to manual mode. I got the TX & RX set to 10db each and the audio rec volume on my camera at 26. I looked around Amazon on the comment review and see nothing about the volume audio fluctuating. So maybe I got a bad unit.
Thanks for the demonstration. That lav really has some detail - less muddy / dry than the stock ME-2 that comes with the Sennheiser wireless. I can't believe they were able to throw a $250 RODE lavalier in to the Filmmaker bundle for $399 - that makes the transmitter and the receiver $75 each!
Thanks +MrCheesyCam comprehensive review.
Hey, can I have multiple transmiters like for instance have 3 transmitter with 3 people and 3 laves? Thanks.
haha as you back up and it turns out youre on this gangster ass segway thing. That was awesome!!
I was wondering if it was possible to use several transmitter on one receiver?? And is it possible to by extra transmitters?
Used mine for the first time last night, sound quality is great with no cutoff at all..
what happen if you use it in the large city where there are 2.4ghz wireless routere everywhere?
do you get some interference on that?
+GabakTech - Cursos de Computación Gratis It should still work pretty good.
MrCheesyCam have you tried it? can you turn 6 wifi router in your home and try it?
+GabakTech - Cursos de Computación Gratis Can you try to look at their review video where they performed their own tests in a very crowded Event?
MrCheesyCam please send me the URL
Haha, I had the idea of doing a similar video - the Segway is inspired...
i could really use this for weddings etc.
I'm a little disappointed in the bulky size of the transmitter. what if the person wearing the transmitter hits the mute button - does it display a red light on the receiver? Can the receiver overwrite mute from transmitter? The screw in connection to the micon adapter looks way too fragile, this coming from owning one. Can you use other non-Rode lav mics?
Zach Boyce Yes, the receiver has a mute override button.
You can use any lavalier with a 3.5mm TRS connector.
Have 2 kits since saturday and by using yesterday I have for 1 receiver unit a small issue that is not big deal but it is a fabrication issue. The thread to attach the Micon 1 is not visible. I will arrange this with warranty I guesses but there is a other issue and I will know the real contents of the unboxing the Rode Filmmaker kit. I didn't get batteries in both pack. As you opened the carton, were there batteries included? If there were batteries: how much is the mAh? An other question as i'm not so familiar with this kind of units: When the pairing is finished, after a while is only to see RX and TX on the screen and the microphone level is not visible, but actually it works mostly. I said mostly because I made recordings were was nothing recorded. I'm happy with the units but it is clear that I need some small support to get it in full practise. By the way your video helps me allot, you explain it very clear. Thanks for your information clip.
To be honest, which one would you recommend? The Sony®, this, or Sennheiser®? ...One. And thank you
Nice review. I pre-ordered two of these after seeing this to replace my Sennheiser G2's that can no longer be fixed. Both of my Sennheiser's went bad, because of the external antennas. Every time they are touched, audio crackles. I like that the rode's don't have external antennas. They look pretty tough.
Awesome video. This was a HUGE help. Thanks!
Two things, can I have two units/tx hooked to the main rx? With Audio Technica, you can have a lav and handheld or up to 8 units hooked together. The other quality, what were you riding on? Pretty cool..
Did you ever find out this question?
I got mine about 3 weeks ago and I love it. It's terrific !
Ok, I admit, I came for the mic, but WTF were you riding!?!? I think I might need that in my life!
The Photo/Video Show I use that segway thing with gimbal stabilizers. It a smooth way to do tracking shots without an actually dolly. You can find it under different names, but one is RoloWheel.
MrCheesyCam Thanks! Already out of stock... my luck.
Like the Hoverboard
The transmitter and receiver look *massive* compared to the Sennheiser/Sony alternatives...
So how to use multple lavs with this wireless system?
Does the Receiver have a talkback Funktion? so can i use it as a walkietalkie?
Do you think these are as good as the 112 Sennheiser?
PremierReviewer as good or better, I tried the Sennheiser and I actually like this one better and it's half the price
Thanks a lot from France !
Great Review, what about the Transmitter, can it be use with other mic?
FlashOneFilms Yes, it has a standard 3.5mm TRS connector
okay great!
forget about the mic, i want that rolowheel thing ahahaha
Great review as always MrCheesyCam !! :)
the transmitter is too big
nice sounds solid but is a little big.
ARE YOU BACK FROM THE FUTURE?
is there an adapter that I need in order to use this with my H4N recorder?
You can use this directly to any h4n. Plug it into the 3.5mm input on the stereo mics.
Will this receiver works with other transmitter?
+FlashOneFilms No this one will not work with one transmitter to several receivers. They only pair directly together.
+MrCheesyCam oh okay thanks
Hi, do you know if you could pair 2 Rodelink transmitters with only 1 rodelink receiver? How about pairing any of the Rodelink transmitter or receiver to the Audiotechnica that use the same 2.4 ghz frequency, do you think it would work?
No I don't think it would work.
Thanks for answering, That's what I thought, better to get then the Saramonic UHF right?
Great video! Question, can I use this with my ipad or iphone?
Mitchell Shelby With the right adapter, yes you can use it with an iPhone. Some people have used this setup for Periscope. You'll need an adapter and the right app.
Hi, I was in love with this products when I bought it but when it came to real use I had many many signal cuts in distances below 40m. Here's an example video, we've even tried 3 different kits and in many different locations and we always end up with this signal cuts. Please have a look at the video and tell me if you know what could be the problem (we also tried with different cameras, different batteries, pointing the receiver and transmitter to each other, having our phones off... everything)
+Wild Eye Studios My guess if you're getting straight 'cuts' from audio, that the problem is with your LAV microphone. The RODE Lav mic uses a micon connector which you can replace the end with other connectors. First, double check that the connector is screwed on well. If you believe it is, then you may have a damaged lav mic.
One way you can test this is to monitor the audio and play around with the connection from the Lav mic into the receiver. Wiggle it around and see if you can detect the audio disconnecting.
+MrCheesyCam thanks for your answer, we've tried 3 different rode filmmaker kits, all brand new, and yes, the mic is always properly screwed and I have tried to wiggle it with my fingers checking if the cuts have to do with the 'jack' connection, but it has no effect, when filming close there are no cuts at all, when the talent is at a distance from 15m on then we start experiencing this cuts, mostly when the talent is walking, and sometimes even standing still
+Wild Eye Studios Sorry, I don't have an answer for that. Is this all happening in one general location? Or all the time?
+MrCheesyCam it all happens in Barcelona, but in different locations as you can see in the video (library, beach, street, etc.)
can you plug this on a mixer? for recording out?
With the right cables, yes you can.
If I had two mics, how do I connect it to my camera? Would I need two receivers?
***** yes, you would need two receivers as the filmmaker kit is a one-to-one device.
Thanks, If I wanted to connect two receivers to one camera. How would I go about that? Will a cable splitter work?
***** Yes a cable splitter would work fine. It would give you a split left and right channel for each mic.
how it works ?
+RØDE Microphones how can we get multiple mic to this receiver bc the transmitter is not available separately ?
Sounds good
