    I have an open bottle of the 18 right now and like Tom R. I’m not enjoying it near as much as I thought I would especially given the praise people are giving it. Like Tom maybe I’m not giving it long enough to sit in the glass. I will give that a try tonight. I’ll pour a dram and do my best not to touch it for a half hour and see if it changes at all for me. Nice video Alan.

    Great review, Alan. I’ve been eyeing this one for a while now. There’s a place in the states I can get the 18 for about $45 less than the 21, so trying to decide if the 21 is worth the extra price. This review will help me decide!

      Wondering the same thing myself Rabbit, can get the 18 for $77 and 21 is $125. The 18 is amazing and a real bargain at that price so may get the 21 at some point as it is all first fill European oak sherry casks that have some extra aging of the wood which would explain where some of that extra money went besides 3 more years in storage. Cheers

    I recently got my hands on an indie bottle by Douglas Laing and loved it - haven't got my hands on the 21 yet. Loved the video - I've subscribed.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR again, also FOR YOUR CHANNEL, Alan ! Nice one this...thanks again for your sample of the Teapot Dram, interesting one too & rare..(me only have the 14 yo for M & S (unopened) & the 15 yo dangerously getting low...might need another one soon in my collection (18 ?, another 15 ? don't know yet) meanwhile, Slainthe my friend !

    This one I managed to snap up one early in 2018 and it managed to end up in my top 5 favorites of 2018. It does need time to open up on first crack of the bottle (25 minutes) and as the bottle empties out, it's amazing stuff. Cheers Alan, you're on your way in the UA-cam world, brother! Cheers

    Thanks for the tip about letting it breathe a lot before tasting, I'll remember that when I'll get me one of this...😉
    -About timing, I think your current 8 to 12 (sometimes 15) is perfect for what you're doing...if you were reviewing several ones in a row or do a second part speaking about other topics (Ralfy like) it would be understandable, but otherwise, you don't have to worry about timing
    -Also I agree about your statement about money for value with these 21/25 yo (other brands are much less reasonable than that for these age statements!)

    Another great review Alan. I have to admit that I've only had a couple of Glengoyne's before. I will have to try a few more this year. I think the abv puts me off a tad.

    • @thewhiskyfriend
      @thewhiskyfriend  5 років тому +1

      thanks Paul and you should try more Glengoyne...the abv for me on this is just about spot on...it however does need 25 min to open up..i think this is an anytime whisky, the nose is spectacular, if you like nosing pop a drop of water in thisand its awesome, water does not do a lot for the pallet....i tried it tonight with a drop of the teapot dram at 57,3 and it gave it a little bite....remember The Pleasure is in the Sharing....cheers buddy

    Have only tried at a festival & it was late in the proceedings so wasn't so memorable. There is a Glengoyne tasting next week that I'm thinking of attending, the 21 is in the flight (no 25 , 30 sadly). Just watched Rob's "Glengoyne Rundown" tonight and he really likes the product. Will let you know how I get on, Cheers Alan! 25 YO Review coming?

    Whisky videos take as long as they take... Rushing a video is like rushing a whisky. I haven't pulled the trigger on this one yet, but I have a Glengoyne 18 waiting patiently to be uncorked.

    I have to admit that I was not impressed with the bottle I bought. Perhaps I have been rushing my drams as well. I will follow your lead and advise and pour a dram soon and give it time to show me what it has to offer. I have about 1/2 my bottle left so still time to change my opinion.
    Have you tried the Glengoyne Cask Strength bottle? I will pick up on in a week or so. $60 for the bottle and it is 58.7% ABV.

    Hi Alan, by the looks of things, you really enjoyed that! And no wonder - it's a truly superb dram. Just needs time in the glass, as you say, to develop its full tasting potential. When you consider what you were doing 21 years ago and then contemplate all that time for the whisky to be quietly sleeping and maturing in the casks, then it seems a sin to rush things in any way. I've never tried the 25yo, though. Do you think it's worth the asking price when you consider its closeness in years to the 21? I'd be interested to hear your opinion on that. Cheers!

    Great review, also a personal favourite of mine too and also love all the other Glengoyne releases as well - they just don't do bad whisky . I have noticed in the last couple of weeks having just ordered another bottle of the 21 that a few online retailers - The Whisky Exchange and Royal Mile Whiskies have slapped another £30 on a bottle, whether this is due to increased costs their end or most likely greed on their part who can say? I suspect the latter. Master of malt is the best place to buy it right now still at £115 although for how long who can say..... they tend to charge top end for whisky so maybe time to get stocked up on a few more sooner rather than later

    Hey Alan, I have run across some Glengoyne 17. Its priced just under the 18 in my market. Have you ever had the 17?

    • @thewhiskyfriend
      @thewhiskyfriend  4 роки тому +1

      I had it a few years ago Britt, then glengoyne discontinued it.. If I remember correctly it was at only 40% abv... So dependent on how far you have developed your palate it might be a bit thin and light... I was just getting into sipping whisky then and remember enjoying it.. Typical sherry.. Fruity Xmas cake dark fruit love sherry sweetness... I love Glengoyne so I am biased.. Your choice if the money is right why not my friend... Let me know what you do... Cheers my friend...

    Just got the 18 this week, let it sit in the glass nosing it for 20-30 min before taking another 30 min to sip and taste it. Was definitely worth the wait, to me the 18 has as much deep flavors and wood spice as the Old Pultney 21 I spent the last two months enjoying. Thinking about getting this 21 as it is available near me for a reasonable price. Any thoughts on this vs the 18 ? Cheers

  • @Stephend005

    Would you rate the 21 above the teapot dram in terms of quality?

    • @thewhiskyfriend
      @thewhiskyfriend  5 років тому

      they are different drams Stephen teapot is high abv it packs a punch where as the 21 is subtle understated given the time in the glass you will get it all... if you watched my teapot dram you will know how much i love that...if i had to choose one it would be the 21...remember The Pleasure is in the Sharing...
