I saw someone else's take on the scene where Alex is trying out different poses before seeing Henry as Alex fidgeting and completely nervous not knowing how to stand or what to do until the moment he sees Henry then all of that nervousness instantly dissolves. Henry has an instant calming effect on him and he knows what to do.
Also when we first meet Percy he says to Nora "Miss Holleran, you are the most exquisite woman I have ever seen in my life..." cutting to Henry taking a quick longing gaze at Alex while he says that. Nicholas Galitzine is fantastic at conveying emotion with his eyes. The entire scene at the hospital when Alex leaves, the looks Henry gives Alex read like a book. It goes a long way into displaying how real and believable their chemistry is.
Yes, you are right - another great insight! I thought it was also sweet that, as Alex stands there, you subtly see/ notice his breath quicken, and his chest rises and falls, as he’s nervously, eagerly waiting in quiet anticipation for his love to walk through the door🥹🩵 . I thought that was just so sweet and adorable. 💘

a very different couples dance than in the V&A museum. A reaction video talked about before/after handshakes, which I hadn't noticed. I had noticed the before/after difference in how they sat in a couch (reporters vs w/king) and this cake dance. And a 3rd thing which I cant remember. You guys should do a before/after video.

In the wonderful coming out of the closet scene, Zahra addresses Henry as 'Little Lord F***elroy.' This is a take off of the character created by Frances Hodgson Burnet (The Secret Garden) Little Lord Fauntleroy in 1885. The name Fauntleroy translates from the French as Le enfant le roy, or child of the king. The novel is about a boy who had an English father and an American mother, being brought up in New York, who is lined up to inherit a title and vast estate in England. Hugely popular and a fashion trend setter in it's time.
I noticed that too! There is a wonderful film/movie with Alex Guiness as grumpy grandfather who has his heart opened up by the sweet, good-hearted blond boy.

I love this compilation. Even Alex's swim shorts in Texas are purple/magenta.
I really think that the use of color, esp. in the clothing of all characters is very thoughtful, smart and references white, red and blue. I.e. Bea and Henry wear almost only white/cream and shades of blue. Henry makes twice an exception with his ties (and the cap in Texas) as a nod to Alex. Even Henry's polo outfit is a combination of the 3 colors. Ellen wears often red and white/cream etc.

@@Belaugh I did notice what Alex said the first time I watched the movie, and realized that the look on Henry's face was a response to the reference from their closet conversation. I think it was also a nice way to show that their relationship was now on a more positive and lighthearted note, with Alex teasing Henry with that line.

Today I noticed that Henry's sister Be immediately realizes that Henry likes Alex as she gets closer to Alex and Nora that's why she wants to leave them alone for a moment so they can talk, maybe get to know each other? Taking Nora to talk. But it's not until they're in the closet that happens.

When Amy is quizzing Alex on the plane back to England, she asks the name of Henry's dog - David. She then mentions her own dog, a shih-tzu, called Jonathan. In the bible David and Jonathan were best friends, both sons of kings, who remained loyal and went through trials and tribulations together. Plus: is that really a jar of jam with a frilly white lid by Amy's elbow? No, it's light on the Coke can!
In the Bible there is a key verse were after Jonathan and his father Saul are killed in battle, David laments that his love for David "surpassed that of his love for women."

Yes, but I think it’s a comfort/ safety thing, too- he feels ultimately loved and safe in Alex’s arms. He feels relaxed enough to finally sleep. He doesn’t stay up late, worrying and concerned about everything that weighs on him: the crown, his family and his responsibilities, etc.

Of course they both share an inability to sleep, which is why their texting tends to happen at night. Each protects and reassures the other, allowing proper sleep. Sweet.
Someday, I will stop noticing things but that day is not today.
One thing that I was thinking about are Alex's scenes with Miguel and how they reflect not only Alex's changing view of him but also his feelings towards Henry. The first time they reunite is in Georgetown right before Alex and Henry begin text flirting. Miguel and Alex are physically close, touching each other, flirting, and talking in a way that suggests intimacy and that Alex might be just as keen to restart their relationship as he is. However, he also refuses to give him any quotes or any confidential information, hinting that Miguel asked him before and either Alex did give it or he refused and they left it at that for the time being.
It's also worth noting that if my calculations are correct and their affair occurred early in Ellen's first administration, then Alex may have been as young as 18. Miguel looks and I believe is significantly older. If it had happened a few months earlier, Miguel could have committed statutory rape. (It's not germaine to this point but definitely shows how low he would sink, to have sex with the President's barely legal son to get a story out of him).
Their first scene is after Alex returns from London and while he has gotten to know Henry a little better still thinks he's an uptight elitist snob and still can't admit that he likes likes him! So he is still close and friendly to his ex, despite knowing that he's something of a weasel (per his conversation with Nora) though their attraction is totally physical as Alex refuses to share anything personal with him.
The second time they encounter each other at the White House, Alex and Miguel are standing across from each other not touching but being still polite towards one another. However, once Miguel mentions reading the Texas Memo that he gave Zahra, Alex questions their relationship and his motives. However, once Henry enters, he only has eyes for Henry and is lusting after him realizing that he wants to have sex with him. At this point, his interest in Henry is mostly physical just like it was with Miguel. Probably at that point he is not quite sure if he is interested in taking it any further. (In fact it isn't until after Henry goes to Alex's room and Alex "does very bad things to him" that he even expresses an interest in seeing him again).
The next scene between Alex and Miguel is after the DNC convention, Miguel is touching him but Alex not only does not reciprocate but is already furious with him about leaking the story of the Texas Strategy. His voice is tight and he moves away from him. He does not want to even in the same space ss him. Personally I think it's about more than the Texas Leak.
It is at this point where he and Henry have become closer on a emotional and mental level, not just physical. He realizes that Henry is someone who listens, understands, and accepts him. His relationship with Henry is deeper than the one that he shared with Miguel. They put each other's needs first often before their own individual ones. He also realizes that what he shared with Miguel was shallow, tawdry, and was based on Miguel's needs instead of Alex's and that Henry is someone who is a far better man than Miguel will ever be.
It's also interesting that it's Miguel's interview with Joy Reid that finally is what pushes him to do his speech. He has now seen his ex for who he really is: a manipulative, obsessive, lying, emotionally abusive cabron (his words not mine) and is slamming the door on that part of his life. He is ready for a real relationship and confesses his love for Henry on the air.
I totally missed the supersonic reference.
2:15-I thought of this scene as a tribute to West Side Story how during the dance scene, the camera goes fuzzy on the other dancers except Tony and Maria who are lovers who similarly are not supposed to be together.
maybe it's not before/after as i commented above. maybe it's a spectrum of the same thing developing over time. the cake dance is almost like wrestling instead of a waltz. that get low dance, they're not dancing (except maybe with their eyes). when they make love, the youtubers "a story worth telling" commented that it was like a dance. then their museum dance.....? reaching?
The one that really caught me on watching it a second time was the Henry's comeback "He is" when Alex says " And I thought Alexander Clermont Diaz was a mouth full ".

Yeah we never do find out what Alex's favorite movie is. (We know from the book his favorite Star Wars movie is Empire Strikes Back and Henry's is Return of the Jedi).
I wonder if Some Like It Hot is his favorite. Also, both those favorite movies fit their personalities. In the Mood for Love is a more dramatic, tragic love story with a lot of romance and introspection while Some Like It Hot is a witty hilarious comedy with a lot of satire and great one liners and has an ongoing theme of characters pretend to be something they are not.
2:46 It took me so many rewatches of the film to notice this. Always a new detail to find.
Also, I can't remember where I saw it now, but someone pointed out the extra at the right hand side of the screen in that shot. Looks like he checks to see where Henry is pointing and is like, "hmm, interesting 🕵♂".

2:10 also its so cute, Alex KNOWS, but Henry wouldn't know its so perfect and sets up that perfect moment they share...
Here's what I want to know. How was the King going to claim that the emails were false when Alex had already made his speech and admitted everything on national TV? Wouldn't that be tantamount to calling the son of the US President a liar? Talk about an international incident. And when Alex said to Henry "I love you more", that was objectively true. Alex worried a little about affecting his mother's re-election and he had his own dreams about being involved in politics, but he was more worried about Henry. Henry, on the other hand, knew that Alex loved him and had flown to be with him, but he didn't make a final stand until he saw that the people still loved and supported him. Understandable, I suppose, since Henry had been raised that way all his life.
It was interesting to see how the characters sort of changed. Henry was the one who had been attracted to Alex for a long time and always seemed to be in control and more mature. Alex was the more carefree fun loving party guy. But towards the end, it was Alex who seemed to be the stronger one who fought for the love he felt, first by running after Henry and then by speaking up to the King. In fact, when he spoke up to the King and the King put him down, it gave Henry the courage to ask why was it necessary to maintain a traditional royal image. Saw how Alex looked at Henry, surprised that Henry would ask the question? A couple of other things that didn't make sense. Where was Vice-President Hollerman? After a win, the VP and his family are always on the stage. And Alex and Henry would never have been able to ride their bikes to the family home without the secret service. But do these things make me love the movie any less? Absolutely not.
These are all covered in the book but got jumbled or disregarded in the movie. Henry in the book has a queen to answer to and she sits him down right after he turns 18 and tell hims that his deviant behaviour should never affect the royal image. This is roughly at the same time as when his father dies and his mother sort of puts herself under a social exile. Henry stands up for himself when Alex goes to him. He speaks up to Philip and Catherine (his mother). Catherine stands up to the queen. The statement Alex makes is made after all of this happens. And Henry is standing right beside Alex too. So I did feel annoyed that this was not shown in the movie because Henry was brave alongwith Alex.
Oh and the VP is present at the venue, again the movie didn't include this. Then again, the movie was originally 3 hours long but got edited to the version we got, so maybe a lot was left out.
Oh the fucking James Bond references are going to kill me. Because Henry’s relationship to his father was so fucking important to him you know he had that in phase were he watched every clip with his dad and so like Alex like knowing a lot of it has to mean so much

I've watched this movie so many times and still wondered about 3 things. These analyses have cleared up two:
Why did Henry say "Not this time"? - Eton
Why "Waterloo"?
I still don't get why Henry is so emotional about politics also being a prison. He started pulling away from Alex when Alex started talking about being together in public. That, to me, sounds like being released from prison. He could be scared of what being in public would be like, but used politics as an excuse. But he was so passionate about it that it's hard to believe he wasn't being genuine. Anyone has more clarity?

Anyway, one of my favorite bits is one that doesn't get discussed enough. Henry says on Election Night that he still doesn't understand American politics and asks Oscar if "they are the Blue team."(The Democratic Party). For non-Americans, yes the Claremont-Diaz's are Democrats so on Election Night, their color is blue. The other side, the Republicans are represented by red. That's what the big deal was about flipping Texas blue, because historically (and in real life) it has always been a Republican red state. It is also the third biggest state in the country, under Alaska and California and had 38 electors in the Electoral College in the real 2020 election so yes that's a big chunk of voters.
I love it because:
1. It still shows Henry's naivete but still willingness to learn about and adapt to his boyfriend's world.
2. It's very reminiscent of someone new to a sport who asks something like "so are we rooting for the red guys or the blue guys?" It's one of those cute couple moments in sitcoms or Rom Com films and could also be an intentional callback to Alex's line about "understanding the difference between rugby and football."
3. Oscar's reaction is priceless, about what he learned at that boarding school. It's the typical down home country dad lecturing the upperclass sophisticated lover trope. It shows that even though he's different from them, Oscar instantly treats him like another son and can tease him the way he does his actual son. Also how his and Henry's relationship evolved from their polite but still casual first meeting where they joked about their titles to someone that Henry can relax and be himself around.
I so agree. I think that is such a lovely and loving touch. A great dad welcoming a second son into the family fold. Thank you so much for mentioning
And there is also the issue that if you see many times you see mistakes that are not supposed to be noticed (?) Sarah in the Oval Room at the beginning has the tablet with the folder in one shot, immediately in another it is not there, just like The door of the first closet that she opens when she discovers Henry in the hotel, in one shot it is open, in another closed and then open again.
I have to stop watching this movie... Can I?.... Nah 😏
