Ride of the Valkyries...good choice for the Flying Fowler! :D
yeah ..now just waiting for some scammer to try & claim music copyright .. lol
It reminds me of the bit in "The Blues Brothers" where the Illinois Nazis go flying... 😂
Haven’t even watched the video yet and I already know it’s going to be quality
I enjoyed coming to the gala on Saturday in between visiting the Mid Norfolk Railway. Good to speak to you briefly in the afternoon once Sir William had got working!
I remember watching our local scrap metal dealer "Lovatts" picking up my old LDV van (to scrap😢) by it's fibre glass roof ...he nearly got it on the flat bed and suddenly dropped it !cracking the chassis in half ...but fair play he took another bite of it and got it on 😞 awesome to watch a crane /lorry driver 😊
That is such a cool little locomotive! It's so cute! 😆
Hope the trees didn’t leave any scratches. Glad you can have a trip out with it. Cool LMM badge too!
Cracking lorry,great video,thankyou .
A Laurie waiting for a lorry!
I’m a bit concerned about the chains - it looks like they’re pressing in the cab roof when the locos are being lifted.
Fantastic video Lawrie, that was a serious piece of kit that SC sent for the job. The driver was a seriously skilled maestro of the HYAB crane. 👌. Great choice of music for the lifts, I half expected a cutaway shot to you saying "I Love the smell of diesel traction in the morning" 🤣👍. Hope we will get footage of the Fowler and Ruston in action 🤞.
Most incredible indeed! Nice rigg, that's what I call an operation TU Lawrie not to worry mate!
Why not connect the wood working shop to rail?
You could put the rail in the ground so that it could still be driven over but still useable to move a wagon to a shop
What about a tractor with modifications that can push and pull wagons into said shop?
Whilst you were waiting you could have given your 48DS a wash and brush-up... 😉 One thing did concern me though and that was the chains at the rear coming into contact with the cab bodywork - wouldn't a spreader have been useful here?
Nice to see someone working (the driver) with some sense
NO Orange!!!!watch out dough nuts are dangerous!!!
Good video enjoyed watching it l had a ruston 88 and a 165 they are great locomotive but dew to ill health had to get rid of them😊
Starting at about 02:58 in this video...
I was half expecting to see a Huey fly in and sling load the locomotive...😉
Why do I get the feeling the next purchase won't be a loco or item of rolling stock but a crane with folding jibs that will ne worn out in a day with Lawrie just extending and retracting them all day lol
I see the fowler says shredded wheat, it does beg the question is it driven with grannies?
Oooo… I want one. That’s my dream job when I was a kid :)
Not sure if you play many videos games, if ya do, you might enjoy snowrunner. Basically running around in trucks being muddy postman pat… can use the cranes for loading and unloading :)
To relieve the boredom you could have cleaned and polished the Ruston in readiness of the move. Its interesting to see how smaller industrial locomotives are moved.
@lmm i see. I think we keep a washing up bottle with oil and parifin mix in the cab of our yard Ruston with cleaning clothes handy.
Surprised you didn’t try to get a big truck. Take both the Fowler and the 44 in one hit then hijack it for your other Ruston do all three moves on one hire
Alas I'll be at London Pride during that weekend, but I hope the gala goes amazingly, and I look forward to the video of it. :)
@@schwarzermoritz Thank you! It's a long march, but a fun one and hopefully the weather is kind to us. :)
did my eye spy a certain larger ruston in the background of that drone shot of sir william being craned onto the track?
sounds like you guys need temp rail segments at the place that you can put down like model train tracks to move stock and engines to the shop
I am curious if it is possible for you to make a video series of building a custom trailer that allows you to safely drive the locomotive on and off at different locations that is pulled by your fire truck
I don't have the licence to drive that at the moment, I'd likely just get a low loader and tractor unit if I was going to move my own stuff
Great vid. Has the latest purchase arrived at Whitwell? If not, will it be there for the meet up?
lawrie any update on the loco you saved from scrap recently?
Lawrie, I have to ask, steam is something I’d love to see on your rails, I know there’s dozens of abandoned little 0-4-0’s throughout the U.K., it would be incredible to see you having operating steam!
Sadly it won't happen for a bit. I love steam, but I just can't afford to restore or maintain it.
Interesting, I’m trying to save up to purchase one, what price would a little 0-4-0 be???
Edit, also where would you find a 0-4-0???? I’ve been looking for awhile but it is very hard to find locations, only 4 I’ve found are up in Scotland. Any info on where some are would help.

A working one, one that needs an overhaul, or a full restoration?
Omg, i tho i had started a video of Off-Grid Garage in the background when the 2nd locomotive transport started. It's his theme song lol
Lawrie stood in front of a Lorry!
I don't know if your aware of this but at 7:20 there is some audio missing and comes back with a click.
But a great video non the less
Question: How come the buffers are strong enough to hold the locomotive whilst it is being lifted? Also is this the case for all locomotives?
Hay Lawrie this has some wheels for you and your trains
What road was the lorry driving along. It's been over 30 years but I'm sure I've driven along there more than once. I was in Stowmarket and regularly went up to various bits of Norfolk.
It went up the A140 and onto the A47.
So if that's your regular route that would explain it!
What has happened with the tyre issue on sir William? Have they been swapped yet?
I was wondering the same thing. I understand the state of the tyres were preventing the loco from being used as extensively as it ought to be.
Passenger use would require fitting of air brakes & the associated pipes seen on the Fowler.
I'm interested in total distance and time taken total, then cost for these moves if possible Laurie?
Any updates on 303? It's been a while and it looks like there's been some progress!
Potentially daft question, are the lifting points part of the original design, or have they been added later in the locomotives life?
4:38 It is soo short😂
I always wondered if buying a used skip lorry would be a worthwhile investment for a loco owner or heritage railway... 🤔 I wonder if it would work!
@@lmm That's probably where I got the idea from, and then forgot! Would it be an economically-viable strategy, do you think, rather than hiring lifting equipment each time?
_I suppose if it was, they probably would have done it..._ 🤷♀
Is there a preferred orientation at Whitwell? I'm coming for the North British!
Interesting that y’all don’t have that connected yet 😁👍
Doesn’t the railway think it would be a more cost effective solution to moving equipment into the restoration shed by installing a switch and laying track into it?
Are you planning on doing a christmas train video this year? May I suggest The Polar Express, and the Hogwarts Train from Harry Potter.
How hard would it be for you to build a trailer for your firetruck that allows you to drive your locomotive on and off?
So why can't the MSLR just lay track panels to get wagons to the wood shop? There must be a good reason...
What about Roston 165 I thought you were going to make a video clip when she was going to move from one railway to another railway where the engine is going to be living ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
How come Sir William doesn't wear her nameplates? ...Or did I just dream that I saw that she had a set in a previous episode 🤔
It does, but they're removed when the engine isn't being used.
They'll be on for the weekend!
how many cameras did Lawrie have on Sir William ?? correct answer is all of them .. lol
There's something terrifying about watching a loco being lifted by crane. The knowledge that if something. goes wrong, and she gets dropped, then she's done for good. Watching PM 1225 being set back on her running gear was a nightmare at times, because the one crane operator kept tilting her, even though I knew they'd successfully set her down the previous day.
Although this is UA-cam where almost everyone is an expert in almost everything, I admit I'm _not_ an expert in lifting locomotives with cranes. But running the chains against the cab roofs without any protection seems like bad practice to me.
I love how the waiting/bored bits were all filmed together -- as clearly shown by the shadows not changing. 😂
So what has been demonstrated here is..... technically the "hand of god" as seen and used on model railways across the world..... Just a bit more mechanical than flesh lol 😂🤣😂🤣
Is it really that hard to lay bit of track and one switch? Much better than having to pay a company for it . Look i understand that you dont wana damage your concrete plates so put the rails on top of the concrete until you get better idea ass a temporary fix. It will save your company lot off money soo think about it mate . Wery good video like always ❤❤.
The Ruston ascending to the heavens was truly one of the most beautiful things one can witness
And terrifying for the owner!
Agreed
Good morning @@lmm
