  • Linda Gregg 1942-
About Linda Gregg’s work, the poet W. S. Merwin wrote, “I have loved Linda Gregg’s poems since I first read them. They are original in the way that really matters: they speak clearly of their source. They are inseparable from the surprising, unrolling, eventful, pure current of their language, and they convey at once the pain of individual loss, a steady and utterly personal radiance.”
Linda was born in New York but grew up in Marin County, north of San Francisco, where her father created and ran a wonderful summer camp for children up in the hills of West Marin in Forest Knolls. She was educated at San Francisco State where she met Jack Gilbert whom she married for a time and whom she knew all his life. Her poems have a fierce clarity where an observer looks unblinking at the psychic landscapes that are the most difficult to see. The powerful, feminine voices of Sappho, and H.D., echo in her beautiful lines.
