    I have a 12 year old La-Z-Boy Crandell recliner. The pawl subassembly ( metal steel part fell off the subassembly) and pawl rack need replacement. I called La-Z-Boy and after about a 10 minute hold, customer care took the ACK number and ordered me the two parts. They did have a $13.99 handling fee plus sales tax that they charged me. Said I should receive it in 7 working days.
    So far so good.
    Thank you for your excellent videos. They are really helpful.

    I called customer service last week and was told I needed a technician to verify my seat foam was worn out as they only sell parts to replace those that are defective. Had a virtual call with the technician today and was informed that parts are only available for 5 years after the recliner was delivered even though my model recliner is still in production.

    According to my local La-Z-Boy store (not where I purchased my manual recliner; that store is out of business) The part I need is a "bearing bracket". It is the part attached to the bottom of the recliner (one on each side) that contains the rollers that fit inside the rail, allowing the recliner to recline. The problem is that I cannot identify the 4th digit of my ACK # because the hang tag and the swatch tag are both missing, and the box tag was stapled onto the chair so that the staple mutilated the 4th digit. I have been told that I can't do anything without the full ACK #. However, couldn't someone who has the ability to input the ACK # to ID my recliner just try numbers 0-9, one at a time, to see which one completes a valid ACK #? That makes sense to me, but a La-Z-Boy rep at their Texas parts phone # told me, rather condescendingly, "that's not how it works, ma'am; you have to have the full number. My recliner was a special order, so surely there's some way to ID the part I need. I would greatly appreciate any help that you might be able to offer.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  Рік тому

      @user-tj2hd1xd1j - If the chair was a special order, the manufacturer should have record of your purchase. Further proof of the special order status is that your last name should appear on at least one of the ID tags, if it's still present.
      Try another rep, some are more helpful than others, unfortunately. And let them know it was a special order. And yes, they should be able to find that info. If you still have your receipt -- or remember the purchase or delivery date -- that may help as well.
      You may have to go directly to the manufacturer, if you don't receive any cooperation from the dealer.

  • @EliezerEisenberg

    When you say that the retailer's focus is on selling new products and they may not be very cooperative, that's a blue ribbon truth. La-z-boy doesn't answer the phone ) I I waited on the phone for an hour), and their response to my online request recommends that I call that NUMBER THAT THEY DO NOT ANSWER.. They chair is twenty years old, I don't know who I bought it from. So: If you're thinking about buying one of their products, remember this: If it breaks, you will not be able to fix it. You won't find parts, you certainly won't find technicians, you will just have to throw it out with the trash. Take it or leave it.

      @reclinerrepairguy4155  Рік тому

      @The Old Guard - IPB? I'm not familiar with that. If you know what parts you need, but don't know the part names & numbers, you can request a sketch & parts list from La-z-boy. Be sure to provide the ID#s of your chair -- ACK & Style -- and specify which sketch you need. I.E. for mechanism parts you'd request a reclining mechanism sketch & parts list.

    Hi Repair Guy,
    How do I check for power from my Power unit? I tried to check all the outputs on the 5 pin connector and the next connector, with my Fluke meter and get nothing. Not sure if I am checking the right places or if I am getting good contact? Was using the chair and it just quit working. Traced the wires and no pinches or visible damage. Then it worked for 5 seconds and now nothing. Just not sure how to follow the power, to where it is not flowing.
    Thank you,

      Recliner Repair Guy I’m not exactly for sure the age. I am told that it is 3 years old. It is a plastic part. A local dealer is helping me put on it. I’m surprised la-z-boy themselves couldn’t help.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  4 роки тому +1

      @@@matthewwilson6698 - The manufacturer can help. You want to make sure you contact someone in the Customer Care Department on their website - www.la-z-boy.com/content/CustomerCare They won't necessarily help you troubleshoot, but if you know the part(s) you need, this is where you can place a part order.
      Having said all that, there are times when you may encounter a trainee who isn't well informed or a rep that's having a bad day and is less than helpful. It happens. But I've never heard of a La-z-boy rep telling anyone to check the internet for their parts. Because many La-z-boy parts are not available there.

    I have a rather older la z boy recliner and the wire that releases the seat has broken. I'm not having much luck at our local la z boy warehouse or dealer. Do you have any suggestions on where I can get one? Also, is there a specific term or part number for this part? Thanks

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  5 місяців тому

      @richardsdigitalmarketingll9390 - Are you referring to the thin wire that allows the ratcheting recline to engage when you recline the chair? If so, check with the manufacturer to see if they still have the wire in-stock. Or, take a piece of the old wire, go to your local hardware or home improvement store to buy some that is the same gauge (thickness). Then bend the new wire to match the shape of the original to replace it.
      Sorry I don't remember the name of this part. It may be something like "Release Wire." Take a photo and/or describe how the wire is attached to the Drive Rod & the Pawl, when speaking with a La-z-boy rep.

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  Рік тому

      @Christopher Plante - La-z-boy has some rocker base options that you can change up. For example, you can switch to a standard rocker without the swivel, or vice versa. But I don't know of any conversion to a non-rocking setup from a rocking platform.
      You can contact La-z-boy to see if they have a recommendation for you. But I'm guessing that you'll have to come up with a way to block off or restrict the rocking motion. As I don't do that procedure, there's no specific method that I would recommend. But it can be done, of course.

      I'm also a la-z-boy recliner mechanic. I won't say its impossible but the amount of work and parts needed to do this would not be cost effective. However you can find battery packs for these chairs. La-z-boy sells them or you can find them online. For a la-z-boy you will need a special though inexpensive adapter from la-z-boy to use the aftermarket battery packs.

    I just picked up a La-Z-Boy recliner, electric, recently, second hand. It looks to be in decent order, but it's lacking a power cable. All I see hanging down from the back is a 5 pin male cable. Is there a wall plug for this thing I can order or does it take a battery pack or what?

    Bought a La-Z-Boy love seat power recliner summer of 2019. The headrest - only half of the head rest will adjust. Do you have a video? Is this a DIY job? Any suggestions? Thanks - RE

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155
      @reclinerrepairguy4155  3 роки тому

      @Rob Evans - Sorry, no video on this yet. There's a small wooden (or metal) frame inside the headrest that attaches to an actuator inside the back. When you push the appropriate button, the frame moves forward. & back, adjusting the headrest position.
      It sounds like you may have a damaged headrest frame. To repair, you'll likely have to loosen the outside back panel to expose the actuator and moveable frame.
      Is it a DIY job? That depends entirely on the ability of the person attempting the repair, as well as their patience level. ;)

    • @reclinerrepairguy4155

      @Rob Evans - Usually the outside back panels are attached with staples and a metal tack strip on each side. Remove the staples & loosen the tack strips to lift the outside back panel up. Depending on the style of the back, you may be able to leave the top tack strip attached & still gain access.
      There may also be a cardboard panel under the fabric. If so, that will have to be removed as well.
