Good lord, that coach was dropping them in perfectly.
100%.
I'm not making excuses for Alonso but his coach was missing and was way more erratic. Props to Julio though, still hit bombs.
That dude was a Allstar batting practice coach!!!
Throwing darts out there!
Facts and he’s letting get back set also, i feel like some of the coaches were throwing too fast
Wasn’t a coach, it was a minor league player that Julio played with
I was there. The crowd went absolutely nuts for this round
That would have been incredible to be there!
I was in the pink hat when they showed the fans
JULIO!!!! ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!!! Also his BP coach is the sensational
Julio with an all-time performance
Unfortunately he didn’t follow it up in the second round.
But credit him for setting a single round record.
No, players in prior contests had to wait for the ball to land to throw the next pitch. The rules were changed to promote more HRs and thats what they got.
@@tinman67tnno one ever followed the rule so they got rid of it
@@fortynights1513 this round was bigger than the whole match.
@@tinman67tnit’s better this way anyway, more fun
This Derby is one of the best I’ve ever seen. So many great players blasting so many homers and it’s such a treat to watch. What a performance by J-Rod! 🔥
The Time Limit is atrocious bring back outs like normal
Yeah, how is it great to watch? You can't even count them, let alone watch them.
@@Kapzharhell no, no one wants to watch ppl hit 5 hrs in a round
@@peteschultz9028s someone who went to the derby, you could easily count and watch them. Calm down
Too bad theres no time to actually even watch the home run before the next balls thrown. The new format is a joke to try and attract the low attention span zoomers.
This kid is a special talent. If or when the Mariners win a World Series, Julio will be a big reason why, he is our superstar.
Steroids
The mariners are a poverty franchise with zero rings.
Not necessarily a poverty franchise they’re tied for the most wins ever in a single season with 116 back in 2001
@@michaelstroud3067 yeah and their the only team to have never gone to the world series.
which lead to???
What an amazing round for Julio! And crazy how one of the announcers called that it'd be (at least) 41!
Was at the derby, the croud was absolutely electric during this sequence and was going crazy for him
Dude same, the place was going nuts
I was in the pink hat at the start
I will forever and always remember that I saw this live. I’m not even a Mariners fan, but the entire Seattle fanbase must be excited to see this, cause I know I am.
I can tell you it was a lot of fun to watch that round
This guy is so exciting to watch. He makes it look so easy.
It’s great to see these guys cheering each other on, even as they’re competing against one another.
This was the highlight for me, absolutely insane performance from Rodriguez!!!
He makes me proud to be a mariners fan.
you got me laughing I remember you all crying last year in the playoffs against my Astros 🧹 🤣🔥🔥
@@ChinisTvno one mentioned the Astros quit meatriding
Wow! He not even seems to be exhausted, what a performance!
I was there to see this and it was louder in there than what came thru on TV.
Two straight years Julio steals the show, but doesn't win. He'll get one someday.
Awesome show all around.
He’s a man of the people!! Legend
I was at the derby. The place was absolutely going crazy. Glad I got to witness it in person
That was NUTS 😮😮 ENTER BEAST MODE JULIO!! 💪🏽🔥🔥 credit to PEÑA dishing up them perfect balls! straight fire 🔥
Pitching is what matters in the derby, all these guys have perfected the power swing and could do it in their sleep..
Just got home from this. I'm a Phillies fan but I have a soft spot for the Mariners, not just because I live here now, but also because both our teams have a similar level of love and dedication despite the bad times being more common than the good. The atmosphere in that stadium during this was absolutely insane, pretty sure the place would've come apart if he actually won.
I saw Josh Hamilton now I saw Julio Rodriguez man what a time to be alive and whitness this WOW made respect to JROD or should I say Juuuuulioooo Rodriguez😉
I was there. No doubt one of the most jaw dropping experiences I've seen in person too. I remember at one point I was looking down at the kids trying to catch the balls that didn't cross the fence, they were just standing there for a good solid 30 seconds cause they knew any ball Julio hit was going over the fence.
I still prefer the old format where they had 10 outs to hit as many as they could. Now you can’t even really admire any of these as there are 2-3 balls in the air at a time.
Wow this kid is awesome!
I was there and it felt like an earthquake in there when Julio was up
What a show Julio 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What a performance, but they have changed the format so much it's ridiculous to compare this performance with those of say Sosa, Big Mac, Canseco, Bonds, etc.
Man… Josh Hamilton hit 28 in a single 10 out round including several 500 foot shots. THAT is still the best Derby performance ever
Right, those guys had steroids.
@@PapaT79 hahahah they are on way more steroids nowadays. If you don’t think so you are delusional
You've got to give some credit to the excellent BP pitcher Pena!
Huge credit. Amen and Amen
This definitely gave Bird showing up to the 3 point contest in his warmup suit 😂😂
This right here this derby saved baseball
This season in general has been a massive boon. Tv ratings up, attendance up, it's great to see.
There should be a special award just for most homeruns in a derby
What a derby. Give us a full All-Star week please
Crazy to witness Athletes keep getting better and better throughout our human evolution.
Lol!
Josh Hamilton’s 2008 derby was more impressive. ;) And he hit them way farther.
And Shohei and Matt Olson both should have been in this thing. They have way better numbers than Rodriguez
Shohei sucked last time so maybe he reconsidered
Why wasn’t Soto in it this year?
@@jimclaus1576 Josh Hamilton’s redemption story was sure beautiful watch.
BP coach on point 👏
Julio is the best up incoming home run hitter.
One of the greatest performances in any homerun derby in history, this dude is a legend. Pete Alonso having a chance.
I watched Josh Hamilton in NYC in 2008, but this was amazing
Me too
I’ve spent my whole life in Seattle, but I’m to broke to make it to this or the Game, but I love Julio so much
Pena pitched a masterclass BP for J-Rod. The way he was dropping those pitches in the wheelhouse every time was unbelievable to watch.
Is it just me, or am I the only one having a hard even seeing where the HRs go with the split screen?
Julioooooo 🔥 🔥 performance
Give the coach a lot of credit for:
1. Throwing those pitches exactly where the catcher was setting up (where Julio wants it)
2. His rhythm pitching was excellent, if not perfect. It allowed for JRod and himself to keep their energy throughout the round, where some pitchers try and force the ball a little too fast and that throws off the batters balance and takes away energy.
Well done Julio, I hope this is performance can jumpstart your second half this year and get you back to the high level of play we saw last year and know you are capable of performing at.
41 is absolutely insane
Mariners fans know how to show out when special things are happening on the baseball field. It was eletric! Let's please give this fan base a world series!
Hahaha!!!!!! Keep dreaming baby girl.
@@anthonymartinez0865cheating scandal?
Amazing performance
I don't even do that in the mlb the show 23 is insane
Me either but I think we could do it if the Show let us get to the next pitch before the last one landed like this.
Hopefully he can have a good 2nd half of the season after this
Exactly why Matt Olsen , who leads the NL in home runs , declined the offer ,
@@leskobrandon3497 I don't think he really cares precipitating the derby at all.
Oh, he is! In the midst one of the best 3 game spans in MLB history as I write this!
Holy cow, what a performance! But go Vladdy!!
I miss when they had to wait for it to land. Fast pitching is a huge problem. I’m all for more homers, and J Rod is a beast, but it nags me when fast pitching wins a round, like Harper in ‘18. Maybe I’m just a salty Schwarber fan, but you be the judge of that.
exactly!!!!! I hate how they turned it into rapid fire. Lame!!!!
The narrative of home boy winning was too good not to fix
That’s why it seems so rushed. As a guy who likes tradition, I can appreciate that thought.
@@kevinl3875 y’know what, that’s some solid advice. I will try that.
That wasn't an HR Derby. That was a bombing run.
He called timeout and then came out and hit another 27, that was crazy
This boy is on 🔥 🔥
Julio That is so so great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👏👍
That was something else! The guy tossing in slow meatballs got fatigued before the hitter did!!
This has diluted the excitement of the derby womp womp womp
No opportunity to savor any single hit before it even goes over. Just pointless.
“You’d love to see the kid get off to a good start.” Julio: “Hold my beer.”
El 41 por Julio el 10 de Julio 🔥
Gonna be the one to say it...
This one ties Josh Hamilton's onslaught at old Yankees Stadium back in 2008.
Let the rabbit hole.... open up!😂❤
Playing an ad during the timeout when all the other players are talking to him should be criminal
With All Eyez On Me playing, Julio is him.
The BP coach was just laying them down for him without taking a step!!!! That’s a huge time saver for a derby!!!!
This is one of the best Derby ever see
Easy to break it when they change the rules every year to create more homeruns
Shout out to the bp thrower for that precision 🔥
I watched at the SEA TAC airport and my mind was blown!
Amazing crazy this is already posted
すげーーーー!!!!
Cool to see the camaraderie between players
The Derby format need a update really it’s simple the player with the most HR in total per round progressively continues to advance, and then the NL versus the AL in the final from scratch
No one giving the pitcher any credit lol. The dude was hitting the spot everytime and short armed it.
ID SAY HIS RC JUST WENT ⬆️😁
Leyenda 🇩🇴
Demasiado duro💪❤🇩🇴
as a yankees fan, this was an outstanding performance and we love to see the AL winning! amazing job jrod! 🤍
Wait i dont remember the pitches coming thia quick? What happened they changed the rule?
Rules change EVERY year. It's ridiculous
Outstanding Job!
🇩🇴 power
Yes the baseballs are really juiced up ⚾️
I'm confused. This guy has 13 regular season homers. What about the league leading home run players?
Exactly
Politics 🙄
Judge is hurt a Othani turned it down
@@Michael-uu7zq No Braves players.
It was hilarious people were Tweeting how Alonso's coach was painting the black against him
Mariner mgmt, please give him some support in the lineup.
Players like julio and shohie make it baseball again, thank you🥳
Derby used to be much better. Now it's just rapid fire and you don't even have time to admire the huge blasts like they used to. Julio was the winner tonight!!! That first round...come on!
Makes me so proud to have met him and had plenty of opportunities to cut his hair and got to know him before he went Big Leagues. Kinda sad he found himself a cuter barber now 😭😭😭 lol
Great performance but boring. Bring back the old format. I used to get excited about sluggers hitting areas of different ballparks you never thought possible. Each pitch meaned something and each homerun you could watch all the way through. I could only watch this highlight up to the break. Nothing like being at the edge of your seat watching Sosa in Milwaukee or Hamilton in New York.
back to when each batter took 30 minutes
Yeah, and you got to enjoy the insane distances of the home runs. Now the next pitch is en route before the previous one hits the stands, I'm not a fan of this format at all. Yes it took a lot longer but who cares? Just sit back and enjoy watching a home run derby
He's not a big guy but he has perfect contact and swing. Also his pitcher was money.
6 foot 3 230lbs is not big ?
"How'd you do it?" "Swinging!"
that crowd was lit.
The Pete Alonso glazing was crazy
Mariners baseball , my oh my!😮
Julio is a freak of nature he makes look so easy to just smack those baseballs out of park so effortless.
Hopfully M's can play better second half of the season!
that Pena coach is a machine, wow
I was waiting for this vid to come out
Wow that's awesome for Julio Rodriguez
What an atmosphere!!
Damn you don’t even get to admire the homers and the person going first is at such a disadvantage
julioooooo💪👑
What’s crazy is when Mark McGuire hit 13 homeruns in 1999 derby at Fenway, we all thought that was the peak!!! 41 homeruns smh, this is just video game numbers!!
Completely different systems, those 2 numbers aren't comparable
@@SirTylerGolf you’re right, the new system is even harder, the old system you can take as many pitches as you want, until you find a good pitch to swing at. This new system you have to take as many cuts as possible because it’s on a clock, Which makes this even more impressive!
@@theoldbk5419 well you can't just say flat out that one is harder than the other, you'd have to extensively look at the numbers to determine anything. It's visibly easier to hit 10 home runs in today's system, but it's obviously easier to hit 100 home runs in the old system, because it's impossible to even get 100 pitches in the 4 minutes today
Still blows my mind that on that same field guys were hitting softballs farther than this during the softball "Long Ball" event.
Interesting feat. I literally thought to myself when they rolled the lineup out *why is Julio Rodriguez here he barely hits dingers* (not that he isn't an excellent player, he just isn't known for HR)
Wish we could have admired a fourth of them (4 home runs left the field by the time you read this) ……
