Letting people vote IS a power grab--a power OF THE PEOPLE to take back our government from career politicians seeking personal enrichment.
The reality is once someone gets voted into their position it may mean a career.
Some of these take this "calling" seriously and work hard for their constituents.

A lot of people actually have to work on national holidays. Early voting, especially with extended hours, is a more effective way to give everyone the opportunity to vote. Vote-by-Mail does even more.

@@starhawk63here in Australia it is compulsory to vote and our voting day is always on a Saturday. But we have access to mail in voting also have voting booths open about 2 weeks early. It's not hard and I find it hard why people are against it in the States.

Check your registration to make sure you've not been purged. AND take all your ID stuff with you! I saw an elderly woman challenged in 2020 over a difference in her signature. She whipped out her voter registration card, birth certificate, state ID and utility bill plus a bill from her cardiologist -- current address confirmation - and by then was shaking so badly her "shaky signature" was worse on that stupid PAD thing than the first attempt, but they by golly gave her a ballot and Apologized. She sat there and cried for 10 mins, blew her nose, put her glasses on and VOTED. She was soooo ready and our family plans to be just as prepared, just in case.

Over here down under all our elections are held on a Saturday and have been for years.
Hear in Australia we have early voting, mail in voting and voting normally and there has not been any problems. Also voting day is a Saturday and it is also compulsury for you to vote. So if you changed the voting day to a Saturday that would not create a holiday for workers.

I'm an Oregonian. I voted absentee when I was in the Army, and while I was in the Army, Oregon went entirely vote by mail. I like the system, and it is secure. In 2020, my roommate had injured his wrist a few weeks before voting. He received a letter saying that his signature on his ballot did not match what they had on file, so he should call to verify his ballot. He called, and all is well. The point is that the system is secure! Our Secretary of State has said that her office will help other states set up vote by mail if they want the help.

Why? Legally you can take time from work to vote. Most poll places are open outside the 9-5 hours. No excuse.
@@LotusMoonTarot it varies by state. Florida for example does not require employers to give time off to vote. Others may only give an hour (which voting lines and grow longer than) and some require you to use your own PTO.

Things were getting done in the first two years, mostly cleaning up the mishandling of the pandemic, but also getting manufacturing jobs back in the US. The last two years, where the Republicans have had a majority in the House, have seen almost nothing happen. Now, why could that be?

Early voting has been the best decision ever for this country. I used to have to stand in line, for 5 to 8 hours just to vote..no matter the weather, I stayed. Now, I never wait more than 30 minutes top.

Washington State has had all mail in voting since 2011. I didn't like it at first but it beats having to go to the poling place.
I voted in person today, even though i permanently get an absentee ballot in Virginia due to my age and medical conditions. I don’t trust the USPS to deliver it in this state which De Joy is using to test out cost-saving, but mail-delaying, measures.
Mail-in voting is safer too, removes the intimidation factor.
I love the mail in system in Washington State. We can vote 20 days before election day & I use the drop box at a library near me. So easy. I've never missed an election since my first time in1970. I voted both parties until the 90's when partisanship became so vicious. Voted Blue since then & will continue this year. Vote Blue to save America!
Mail in voting only available for seniors in Indiana. It takes time for non-seniors to vote so the turnout for young adults usually quite low since we don’t have time to vote.
Mail in vote is helpful for disabled voters who have trouble getting out.
This applied to a friend but she unfortunately died last month. She could have used it.

We are counting down to a provincial election here in BC. Yesterday there was a booklet in the mailbox that made me so relieved & proud to be Canadian. There is a section on how to register, what documents you need to produce to register, & what you can do to compensate if you don't have those. Another describes what to do vote (early voting, postal voting, telephone voting, help available if you have a handicap of any kind), & where to go if you want to vote in person on the "Final Voting Day". There was a description of how ballots are counted, and protected. It is written in accessible English (translations avaiable). I consider it a treasure.
Yes we have a similar and excellent voting system in Australia which is regulated by a central authority the 'Australian Electoral Commission' which among other things evaluates and defines electoral boundaries and has been studied by the UN as a model. It also regulates voting in local council elections and in unions to ensure secret ballots. Most importantly, we have compulsory voting and a preferential system. The latter means all your preferences are taken into account, so you can do a protest vote to show your real inclinations and signal which party you prefer and your vote won't be wasted. For instance you can vote 1. Greens 2. Labor 3. Conservative and if the Greens candidate does not win out of 2 and 3, then those votes are distributed to the next one, being 2. And so on until one winning candidate emerges. It's far more pluralistic.
Was always that simple here in the US not something you worried to much about, just something you did no different then getting your Drivers License, then Donald Trump happened. The US Central Bank just lowered interest rates by half a point. The stock market is rocking in anticipation for further rate cuts and getting costs under control. Inflation was partially due to Trumps enormous $7.8 Trillion dollar National Debt when in office. He promised to lower the National debt, only to raise it to historic levels with tax cuts to the rich. Please do your research!
