(Also, i apologize for this huge wall of text, but i want to make this as understandable as possible, while being also as short as possible) + Death Trigger Warning. So to start off, there's Undertale the original creation, game created by Toby Fox. As to Undertale's lore i obviously recommend playing (or watching on youtube) the game itself, but i will give the most important points from the original here. Long ago two races ruled over earth - Humans and Monsters. One day, a war broke out between them. The humans won, and sealed the monsters underground. Over time, 6 human children fell down, and due to complex events they were killed, for their souls. With 7 human souls, the Monsters could break the barrier and be released back to freedom. Eventually a 7'th child falls down - that's us, the player when playing Undertale. Throught the journey we meet Sans, a skeleton comedian beloved by the fans. Additionally, us as the players are given the choice - Spare everyone, Kill everyone or in between. There are three possible routes in Undertale - Neutral (Spare, or kill most it doesn't matter), Pacifist (Spare everyone, can only be played after beating neutral once) and of course Genocide (kill everyone. And not just the foes you simply encounter, on this route the player has to hunt for kills until there's nothing left.). At the end of the genocide route, there's the final boss - Sans. The hardest boss in the game, and currently a classic throught the internet. That's it for the original Undertale lore, except for one more thing: People started creating AU's (Alternate Universes). One of them, is the most important in this wall of text i'm writing - Dusttale. Dusttale originally started as a fan-fic, later on getting a fan-game. It speaks about the Human (us) starting an infinite loop of Genocide Routes. Something special about this is, the fact that Sans remembers all of it. Eventually he's had enough and he kills everyone himself to overpower the human. Yes, in this world the "mechanic" of the player "leveling up" (it has a different name in-game) does not only apply to the player. In original Dusttale (BTW the name comes from the Monsters turning into dust instantly after death) Sans fails, and falls to the human anyway. But this of course lead to further fan-creations. Specifically DustDust. Now, i don't really remember DustDust lore this well, but well enough. Just don't take anything following as a 100%. So in one of the timelines, Dusttale Sans, kept his power after a Reset. He repeated his killings until he actually won against the human. He then left his Universe and started going around killing anything in sight, specifically other killers. That is how DustDust came to be, having his theme which got this AMAZING cover here. Hope that helped, and once again sorry for the length 😅 (Also i'm in love with this cover, IMO Undertale fan-music gets too little attention when it comes to covers by proffesionals etc.)
