I have played this at full volume whilst I potter around with bits of wood in my shed, and I can safely say this is most definitely "Music For Pieces of Wood".
Dude, this is my favorite gig. Played in the engine room of a gigging steel band for a few years. Exploring the various qualities of quarter notes is like exploring the physics of subatomic particles.
A duet, with one octopus, and one Mantis shrimp - they could pull off an excellent performance, for sure. Although, how would they go without any sheet music to follow? It wouldn't be a problem for the octopus, but how good is the memory of a Mantis shrimp?
The last guy to play had me thinking: "But, Marge, that little guy hasn't done anything yet. Look at him. He's going to do something, and you know it's going to be good..." It wasn't. :( I still appreciate it, though. (But backflips or a little jig would've been nice.)
what about music for rocks being banged together and rubbed together? just an idea... I am not Steve Reich but yeah I could dance to two bricks getting pounded into each other-- :) wonders what the music written out would look like?
Director: "Ok, everybody, remember to wear a black shirt." 2nd guy: "You're not the boss of me! I'm wearing dark grey!"
That guy was my percussion instructor at University.
I believe this was probably an artistic choice. . .
The is considered to be the greatest of all pieces in the entire canon of works for 4 pieces of wood.
And yet these guys decided to go rogue, and play 5! 😀

Enchanting execution! I can literally hear sanskirt being chanted by the woods! This is sublimal!
I remember spending so much time learning this in high school. Good times
Pure mathematics, made audible.
Which Vic Firth Piece of Wood model is this? Sounds like the F2.
Lol
The poor guy in the middle had to play quarter notes the whole time lol

He's the backbone of the entire piece! All the more complex rhythms play off him! He keeps the entire thing grounded.
Like playing cello in Pachelbel’s Canon in D.
* jazz bassist has entered the chat *
Thx for the description of he piece, composer and players
i played part 1 last year. so much fun, i just get to stand there and chill
I want to see Danny Carey play this whole thing on his own
Dude heck yeah man,mr polyrhythms
Really cool!!!
Reminds me of the "rhythm band," which was a common feature of first, 2nd and 3rd grade in the late 1940s.
The melody is beautiful.
Respect to the guy in the middle he is a true metronome 😂
the guy in the middle had more action than the others !
Dude was planted
i could listen to people smack their wood all day, yup.
Awesome...Respect!
Imagine if one of them dropped it... and they had to start over... *START OVER*

Cool piece, great playing but OMG don't their arms and hands and shoulders get worn out?
They have really good chops, so probably not
Very nice, that was.
y doesnt an octopus play this by him/herself?
+Andrew G i dont knoe but i wish i did
Yer thinking Mantis shrimp.

Someone should tell them they have the sticks upside down
Is there any reason why they are wearing ear piece? Do the woods make very loud sound?
They are all listening to a metronome
Once you hear the middle guy playing "skeet skeet skeet skeet" you can't unhear it.
Why are they not marking time?
Owesome sound.
To whom do you owe some sound?
@@georgiemcpseudonym4182 Lmao.
😆👍✨♥️💓♥️
Man I love me some PoW.
It's nicer to watch it with eyes, with the players.
The last guy to play had me thinking: "But, Marge, that little guy hasn't done anything yet. Look at him. He's going to do something, and you know it's going to be good..."
It wasn't. :(
I still appreciate it, though. (But backflips or a little jig would've been nice.)
@VXCV lmao
that was funny
What a beautiful piece! I wonder what it's written for...
Pieces of Wood
what about music for rocks being banged together and rubbed together? just an idea... I am not Steve Reich but yeah I could dance to two bricks getting pounded into each other-- :) wonders what the music written out would look like?
There is a piece by Peter Eötvös called "Steine" where that is applied
What is the name of that music instrument hold by center man?
The piece of wood? Lol
