What I'd like to see is one person doing the low foot stomp (kick drum) and someone else doing the backbeat, with a metal tap on their shoe to give it that highhat/snare snap. You'd now start getting a stripped down drumkit groove. You should try it and see if it drives the tune(s) even more!
