It was nice to see the coke battery at work. I think sometimes they get overlooked because the process isn’t as glamorous as the blast furnaces and BOF. Great footage
Looks like I can see two blast furnaces they're not making as much steel as Gary but it looks like they're making a pretty good amount I didn't see any orbridge they use conveyors but I do see a lot of iron ore and Limestone on the ground
Think I saw more of the coke ovens than the actual blast furnaces. In any case, seeing that large flare was kinda depressing from an engineering and efficiency standpoint; I'm not totally positive but I'm pretty sure that waste gas being flared off at this coke oven battery has been utilized by some European mills to help heat the ovens that power their own blast furnaces.
I work at this mill, that flare burns off excess gasses when theres an issue with the furnaces not being able to burn it off in the iron making process.
@@Jakefromallstate1 Sorry for coming out of the woodwork, whenever the hiring pool opens, it'll be my 4th time going through the process, I just want to make steel already!

Thanks for sharing this video. Always wondered what this mill looked like beyond Rt.12.
Awesome views! 👌👍

And I would say they're making a lot of rolled steel beams railroad tracks and all kind of rolled products

Thanks for the insight.
It flares pretty often too. Live near this one and it constantly makes the night sky pulsate with an orange glow.

Where's the furnaces ?
I'm not 100 percent sure sorry.
@@rails-n-things Far end. Looked like 2, maybe more in there together.
Around 3 minute mark you can see them behind the sintering plant that is being focused on.
@@chevydelaware1335 thanks!
Has this closed please?
@@wolstenholme100 as far as I'm aware, it is still open.
No it's still up and running. I work here in the Coke ovens
