  • Derek and Akhona of travellernomads.com visit Angel Billabong on Nusa Penida, Indonesia. Several people have drowned here after being swept out to see, but during the visit people were still risking their lives to get selfies. About 2 mins after this clip was shot a massive wave entered the pool, and would have swept the guy who stood on the edge into the sea...

    I had a neighbor friend that was on vacation in Hawaii when he was swept out to sea by a wave while he was walking along the beach. The body was never recovered. It devastated the family terribly. He was 17 years old.

      People risk way too much just for social media now days. It's all about getting likes and becoming instafamous. It's ridiculous really that people don't have to do much to Become famous influencers and that are youth strive to be just like them. Now I'm not at all putting down all social media influencers because there are many that do awesome things or that share their life's journey in healthy ways or tell stories ect but I'm talking about those who do dumb shit and just wave their arms around and call it dancing. Come on there are so many things we could do with more meaning.

    Lots of people like risk...or the story of what that risk brings. Its why people sky dive for fun or climb mount everest or swim with sharks. Its the thrill that it brings. If you want to stay where its safe that all cool but don't call someone an idiot just because they like to live on the edge....in this case, literally.

    • @telestix6606
      @telestix6606 2 роки тому

      I wouldn't compare this idiot to someone who climbs Everest. I can guarantee you the guy who climbs Everest looks at snow packs, judges exposure to falls, wind direction for coming weather, etc... This guy simply doesn't know or understand the risk he is taking. Thus I am with the poster he is an idiot. Taking risk with educated guesses and assumptions is very different than simply exposing yourself to risk because you overestimate your ability or underestimate the risk. If you asked this guy I would bet $100 he has no understanding of rip tides, undercurrent, etc... he just liked the photo and the ocean "looked fine" -- I am with the poster he is an idiot! he just happens to be an idiot who gets away with it. (which perpetuates the problem)

      This is just a stupid risk taken for narcissistic reasons. Go to any beautiful, tropical, coastal place and you can witness this stuff. The ocean is nothing to play with. Guarantee the locals there wouldn't turn their backs on the sea in such a precarious place. Looks tame enough, but people die like this on a regular basis. Tourists mostly, who don't understand the danger.
