A River Class patrol vessel? It's armed with a 40mm pop gun, doesn't carry a helicopter and can't even be used to clear mines - about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Is this what we're reduced to now?
In the 42 years between 1903-1945, the Royal Navy built at least 2160 warships, not including submarines, unarmed none combat ships and or logistics ships. 53 Battleships and Battlecruisers, 35 Aircraft carriers, 45 escort carriers, 160 crusiers, 868 Destroyers, 284 Frigates, 686 Sloops/Corvettes. In the 42 years between 1983-2025, we built 31. 16 Type 22 Frigates, 7 Type 23 Frigates, 6 Type 45 Destroyers and 2 Queen Elizabeth Class 3rd rate carriers. 31 vs. at minimum 2160. This is treason!
@lachlanchester8142 Reasons?! The defence needs of the nation, to halt the decline of the Royal Navy, the Falklands War that happened the year before, to prevent the situation we're in now, where we have just 15 surface warships, 2 Queens, 6 Type 45s, 7 Type 23s. The Royal Navy currently cannot operate in contested waters. At anyone one time we have 1-2 Type 45s available, 1-2 Type 23s and 1-2 Astutes, and every other 6 months we have 1 carrier available with no fixed wing AEWACs capablities. There is no way you can defend that it is treason and at best dereliction of duty!
We need to grow the Royal Navy
Doesn't the post-war Japanese constitution prohibit the possession of aircraft carriers?
the ubiquity of the F35 should make the coming decade the best ever for interoperability !

And what events could have possibly happened during that period that would lead to a significant increase in warship building 🧐🧐
