Addio La Superba! RIP (1933-2018). One of the most riveting operatic personalities
of the 20th century! Endowed with a sensational and ample spinto voice,
her repertory was extremely diversified, from classical melodies, to Zarzuela, pop
hits (scoring huge triumphs with pop artists including Freddie Mercury and
Vangelis) and of course opera, in roles ranging from Alceste, Medea, Semiramide,
Contessa in the Nozze di Figaro, Norma, Imogene, the Tudor Queens, Violetta,
Leonora, Elisabetta (in Don Carlos: a most fabulous interpretation), Manon, Salomé
(Hérodiade), Manon Lescaut, Mimi, Floria Tosca, Princess Turandot, Adriana
Lecouvreur, Arabella, Salome and countless others, including rarely performed
works, both in opera and on the concert platform! A God’s voice, her perfect
breath control (only challenged by that of Leontyne Price) was awesome, her
mastery of the pianissimi (frequently overused) and long-sustained high notes (glorious
if somewhat metallic high-Cs and Ds ) were thrilling to the last and projected
easily in the largest auditoriums. Her trills were sometimes lazy as was her
vision of the prosodic line, which she knew how to accommodate to best fit with
her own vocality! She was a marvelous, unique and generous Lady whom I was privileged
to know and of whom I have fond memories. She leaves an undisputed and regal
artistic legacy. One of the last operatic titans! Her radiant smile and indomitable
sense of humour will be missed but her talent will last through her many
recordings. She was an ambassador of peace and humility … Her voice will
resonate high up there among singing Angels who will rejoice in welcoming her
loving soul in a better world. RIP.

Thanks Dear. I'd glady do that but nobody will ask me ... probably! She was a truly outstanding human being and vocalist. Fond memories of her ... preparing paella while humming her role and giggling with laughter! Or at Salle Gaveau (Paris) realizing that she had forgotten her glasses and that her secretary had mixed up the music scores! Adorable Caballé: RIP.

A very great artist, but here, at 74, her voice was not a patch on Lily Pons' voice at the same age [ you can track down her 1972 performance}. Lily's voice was totally unimpaired.But we remember Montserrat at her best of course...

Remember Caballé never spared her voice and dove head-first in tremendously exacting repertoire, from very early on in her career. That went on
for about FORTY years.
Not much voice was gonna remain after that.
Everybody there seems to be having great fun though, so I don't see why admonish this

Embarrassing. I sing I easily would sing it better... Caballe's end was really pathetic. Ok ok she was always nice, kind, smiling, all that. But artistically, a disaster. She should have stopped everything at least 10 years before.
She went on till the end, that's that.
Caballe was having fun and her fans loved her and were wiling to pay big bucks to see her at any age. What's pathetic is a nobody like you comparing themselves to a legend. Did you even know that the Dutchess is a comedic role and does not have to sound great? Caballe was the draw of the show....a perfect role for an aging singer who still loves to do it...and make that money.
Maybe she continues to give you the opportunity to have your fifteen minutes of fame.
I know the English language has thousands of words to describe your arrogance but those are the only ones to do: your ass is full of shit!!
