Batteries were standardized in Germany in those days. The battery pack was design to accept a standard 4.5 V battery, which was not available in the US in those days.
YES! I remember those batteries with two long flat contact leashes on the top. I haven't seen one of those for at least 10-15 years anymore. In the 90's you could still get them in almost any supermarket here in Germany. I don't know if they're still produced?
@@andreasklindt7144 yes, they are around. Called "Flachbatterie". You can also buy a kind of empty shell where you can insert normal AA batteries, which are more common and also available as accus.
It's amazing how we get a glimpse of the toys of the past and what we have today..
Frankly, I am most impressed with the original documentation and other paperwork. That material so very rarely survives.
