The most horrifying thing about 456 is that they didn't NEED the children. They just wanted to get high.
UA-cam:"Ianto's and Jack's plan are ruined by beans"
ME: "Bad bad beans!"
I'm sorry but episode 4 deserved more rep, in my opinion its the best episode and the scene where they're discussing which kids to give to the 456 is chilling and perfectly written
To this day the most coldest part was when they were discussing which children should be served up. It was good writing. kept me so wound up after the lasty episode I had a headache for a few days. Brilliant bit of TV.
I agree it was amazing. That scene was the scariest thing in the Doctor Who universe, especially knowing that I would be in the demographics that the government describes as undesirable, even though I've gone onto a university education and certainly hope to have a positive impact on society.
yes but if we did this in real life, the government would do what not even torchwood would dare to touch, the special needs kids
Feel like the best moments of Children of Earth is... everything from Children of Earth. It's that good!
Was you paying attention with season 1 and 2 right through to see why.
If you did then you would not have said that.
@@averagebot935 it’s not exactly a cameo he’s one of the main actors in the show.
@@averagebot935
Yeah, I loved the John Barrowman cameo too. The Eve Myles cameo wasn't bad either.
In the last clip, I don't think she was crying because jack left. I think it was because she lost everyone in torchwood and she's the only one left and I think that jack was what tipped her over the edge. She may have been telling him he cannot run away because she was trying all she could to make him stay
Can't ever go wrong with Captain Jack in the mix no matter what anyone says. Give him a break. He is still handsome bi gay or straight whooo cares❤❤❤😊😊.
Tears rolling down my cheeks when Jack used his grandson to get rid of 456.
There was a lot about the Torchwood series I didn't care for, but THIS, the Childern of Earth series is a absolute gem of the science fiction genre. This is what science fiction does best, exploring society, government and the impact of science/discovery. After you watch it there are so many things to ponder and chew over. Really well done.
IKR, I only watched it this month and I'm so mad no one else I know has seen it because I have no one to discuss it with
i agree. a lot of it isnt terribly interesting, but children of earth is very good.
Nothing else will ever be able to top this mini series. Torchwood Children Of Earth is one of the best pieces of Doctor Who content.
"We are coming.. BACK" that sends chills down my spine
When I watched the series 3 and 4 I was always thinking "What if Tosh and Owen haven't died??"
@@jxn_yt3623 mf what? If you're watching this, you should have already watched Series 1-3.
The most masterful part of this series was the use of music. The moments of quiet, or only using one or two notes/instruments...
It made things so poignant... The calm made you so hyper-focused on what was going on, and it was just masterful...
I’m surprised the scene where the 456 reveals WHY they want the children isn’t included. In fact, I can’t find that clip anywhere on UA-cam. The 456 simply responding with “The Hit” sent shivers down my spine as I finally put the pieces together.
Best moment for me was Rhys finding out that he was going to be a Dad! That was priceless!
I've been watching each episode, day by day this week. Finished Episode 5 about an hour ago.
I'm still crying.
Children of Earth messed me up for days. I couldn't get it out of my mind and couldn't sleep. I both hate it and love it.
Have to agree with you there...think it messed a lot of us up....For me Torchwood should have ended with COE
That cement scene and the entirety of day 5 got to me, but coe was just so good
Not to sound critical, but in those days of being in your own mind, did you ever wonder where the premise for this story came from, or where it lead to? Just testing the waters.
Children of Earth is the best story in the whole DWU.
Change my mind.
Nivada Stars You raise a good point and I do remember it bothering me on my first viewing. However I enjoyed the rest of it so much that I’m willing to suspend my disbelief.
i agree, quite possibly the best in torchwood storytelling, emotion, music and drama, i still can't watch the kid's death without crying like a baby
The best character of this season, not counting Jack, Gwen, Ianto or Rhys, was that female Captain. I ain't saying that she's a good person(cause she's not) but the character was very well mounted. The actress who portrayed her was brilliant!
Agreed ... She famously also featured in the original Resident Evil movie ... getting her head sliced off in the legendary 'laser corridor' scene.
26:50 I like his face when he saying “What for?”. His face just tells us Jack’s wounded mind so perfectly.
This series of Torchwood was so good, and so hard to watch. I saw days 2-4 while on a trip in England. My flight left the morning of Day 5, and I was up in a hotel room outside Heathrow bawling my eyes out and shaking. Then I had to wait two weeks until it aired in the US to see how it started and how it ended. I didn't think it could be more heartbreaking than Day 4. I was very, very wrong, and I'm glad I wasn't watching Day 5 alone. This "best moments" is the first time I've seen any of CoE since it aired, even though I bought the DVD the day it came out. I can't. It's easily the best television I've ever seen, and I still can't rewatch it more than just clips.
I will say, having Jack back in Doctor Who proper has been cathartic after this and Miracle Day. But I want to see Gwen and Rhys and their daughter and Andy, too.
They should have included Iantos coming out moment and the moment where Gwen identifies Jack and Iantos body’s
hum Ianto literally kissed jack before his explosion ,if that's not a coming out moment i don't know what is:)
@@liliks14 that’s not the coming out moment though. Everyone knows Ianto loves jack but I meant that they should have uploaded the scene where he comes out to his sister. Not for context or explanation just simply because it was a nice scene
@@obiwankenobi687 i need to rewatch this season coz i don't even remember that coming out scene myself .tome they are one of the few gay couple on screen that don't seem force . they are endearing
High quality tv sci-fi. Whenever any of my friends talk of Torchwood, they always mention 'Children of the Earth' first. It's proper scary!
It is unbelievable the feelings I still feel when I see these scenes, it not only reminds me when I was a teenager, also reminds me how good this series was.
I don’t recall seen a flawless written season like this, also the music is so powerful and makes you really feel the moments.
I not only miss so much Captain Jack (who I was in love 😍) but also all the Torchwood crew!
"I just can't stand it dad, I look older than you do and it's never going to stop, I get older and you stay the same"
Hahaha, tell that to the face of boe
7:00 when I first watched it I actually thought to myself that ianto wasn’t gonna make it out as it looked like he wasn’t near enough to the top of the lift before the bomb exploded
5 parts of some of the best television I've ever watched
I haven't seen children of Earth since it first aired. I own the Torchwood box set, and still never watched it. I found it too distressing. And yet, watching this I realise how well it is done. RTD is a genius! I forgot Peter Capaldi was in it. He was good!
Every iconic sci fi show has moments of greatness, this stands with the best
The 456 are the most weird creatures in the series. The 456 and the "Blessing" from Miracle Day
This video should be 5 hours long
The best part is when, the children point and the 456 arrive
This was one of the most devastating, horrifying, and brilliant episodes. I loved the series but Children of Earth made me a die-hard FAN. Just love it to bits! Wish it were still around.
Such a brilliant, tragic and sad season was this! Also the music was so powerful and heartbreaking as the story!
I haven't seen this in years. I had forgotten how good it was. And heartbreaking. And can we get a shout-out for how expressive Eve Myles' face is?
Ianto is so so adorable bless him 🥺
Find Ashildr, Jack.
Jack: "I'll come back, I always do"
UA-cam: [Applause]
"Best moments" this is literally just misery and pain.
Congrats on 20k subscribers Torchwood
Rhys has evolved so much from series 1 to series 2!! Very nice.
One of the best things ever to come out of the revival of all things Doctor Who and Doctor Who related.
‘The beans are almost done.’….. ‘bloody beans.’
If I remember right the reason why the 12yh doctor is Peter Capaldi in universe is because he remembered the character of that Roman person from his subconscious who happens to be the ancestor of Frobisher. It’s quite unique how they don’t explain it full on but it’s hinted at later.
Not only that, but there’s a theory that what happens to Frobisher and his family is time correcting itself for the Doctor intervening in Pompei.
@@jeffbo8748 yeah I read that. Steven Moffat confirmed it I believe 👌
The last thing Ianto's niece and nephew do with him is take his money. It's so sad!
6:06 Apparently all this happened because The Doctor wasn't there. But I can see him there quite clearly.
Wait Capaldi was in this :O
Yeah, Capaldi was in a few episodes of Who and various spinoffs - most well-known being Caecilius from the Fires of Pompeii.
yes and he kills himself when they ask him to offer up his children as part of the 10% as a show of goodwill.
I was going to say something too. I did not realize that a future Dr Who was in Torchwood. lol
@@inoox Not just himself, and that's part of why I still can't rewatch all this time later. It's an amazing moment that he acts the heck out of, but the triple-whammy of Ianto, then Frobisher's final act, and then Stephen all so close together.... This is the MOST brilliant television I've ever seen, I've seen it all the way through twice, and I probably won't watch it all the way through again. The clips here make me remember why.
To be perfectly honest Children of earth is a fantastic story for Torchwood and in the Doctor who universe, but I feel like they could do more with it like bring the doctor in for one episode cos it was a whole wide world sort off thing and I'm surprised the doctor didn't even know about it..... Or did he??
Anyway why did I like it.... it was dark as hell, like they basically blown up the Torchwood hun that we loved for 2 seasons of Torchwood and blown up Jack and seeing him still alive that was gut wenching. They included Reese more witch is cool. Just the concept of the story is cool, and most of all Inanto's death it was really sad cos he was a fantastic character but they handled it so well
so that's what I think about Children Of Earth.
The reason he’s not here was because This was set during his trip before he regenerated into 11
And the doctor doesn’t LIVE on earth he leaves for long stretches
And from the episodes titled as days this took place during a week of 5 days
if the doctor where present there wouldn’t even be a bloody day 5 it would be over before you know it
Or at least he could have found teh solution quicker
The fact tht these ppl decided to surrender all those children to the same fate as the others was absolutely terrorfying. No doubt there logic was to sacrifice the few to save the many. It may be logical to them but it was so inhumane. The very definition of not human in terms of their actions.
I like to think that Rhys and Rory are very similar. they understand that their wives love them and want to be with them, but also that Gwen and Amy will always love the fantastical, beautiful, time travelling man that completely changed their lives.
Nah man, don't do Gwen Cooper dirty like that by comparing her to Amy Pond. Gwen actually felt really bad about how she treated Rhys, and as far as I'm aware, she also didn't try to rape anyone.
I feel like season 1 and 2 are the best because they have Owen and Tashiko.
My problem with the first 2 seasons is inconsistent characterisation. In one episode Gwen and Jack could be head over heels in love and then in the next its all about Jack and Owen. Then Gwen and Owen. Then Ianto and Jack.
My biggest problem with characterisation in the first to seasons was with Ianto. They never really knew what to do with him until Children of Earth. He was great in Countrycide but most of the rest of the time he is either just the quiet tea boy or comic relief. This season really gave him some depth all the way through.
I did like Owen and Tosh’s arcs at the end of season 2 though. They actually started to focus more on character there, even if it did feel like they were repeating the same points from episode to episode with Owen’s depression.
Children of earth is most likely the best thing I’ve seen in the whoniverse
If the 456 ever return, I don't see the Doctor putting up with all this, especially if they're all just like the one in the series. He'll just go to war with those alien junkies and externinate them like they deserve
24:25 RIP to the kid who just got smashed into the glass by the 456
I’d argue that the army taking the children and Frobisher’s death/the speech should be here
Ianto: so one day you’ll see me die of old age
Me: fuuuuuuuuck
There’s something very primal about gwens face when she’s running with the kids away from the soldiers, the same with jacks daughter trying to get to Steven after he’s been grabbed. It’s a motherly instinct to protect the young.
Where was the doctor?? He says he cares about earth and that he’ll always be around to protect it but he didn’t when this happened
This was set between the End of Time and Eleven, while Ten is on his last lap. He only returns to the present as Eleven, a year after this happened. Either way, it only takes place over 5 days, and the Doctor never returns to these time periods. Could've slipped under his radar, especially as he's grieving himself at this point.
John barrowman acting his ass off as per usual, torchwood didn't get alot of great rep but it was one of the better shows out there
I get Alice's point about Jack but she's literally blaming him for being made immortal against his will. Jack didn't choose that life but what was he meant to do, live a life of solitude for eternity? Would she really have been happier if he was miserable?
God children of earth is the best Torchwood season ever, miracle day is a good second imo but damn this show made me cry when I was younger.
I didn't know Children of Earth's run time was 29 minutes?
Its this series that ended Tourchwood for me.
Me too. Though Children Of Earth was the first Torchwood series I watched, I honestly didn't like that they killed off Ianto.
My favourite Torchwood episodes are Cyberwoman and End Of Days.
My least favourite episodes are Exit Wounds and Day Four.
I miss watching Torchwood.
I loved this show!

Love this season, that was scary and terrible sometimes
Ianto: I love you
Jack: I know😘
If you had told me that after the 1st two seasons of Torchwood that they’d be able to pull off something like this I’d have said you’re crazy.
no no no you’re breaking my heart
All of it should be included in this video haha
A reddit user said this, but not much info was used, how would the doctor have handled children of Earth and how would different incarnations have done it.
No body talks about the blooper in the show where the black guy is talking to the camera and you can see the crew in the back chatting when he's suppose to be alone lol.... I said it at the time thinking others would say something but nobody has
jack has been through so much shit lol
I was surprised Torchwood went from this amazing quality to season 4. In all for those who enjoyed season 4 but the contrast was amazingly different! I loved season 1, season 2 was enjoyable. Season 3 MIND BLOWING, season 4… what was that??? Lol😂
Torchwod needs to return
Storyline in fact is back for some years Now. Big Finish gave them few seasons, after Miracle Day.
How does everyone think COE would have gone if it had the full old team in it? Like all 5 of them?
I don't think anyone would have died. Together, as the team they're meant to be, it would have been dealt with in one day instead of five
Jack would have brought Owen and Tosh with him instead of Ianto. Would have needed Tosh's tech knowledge and Owen's medical background in the likely event it kicked off.
Tosh would have died instead but Owen's technically already dead so he probably wouldn't be the same after Tosh dying.
Can see Owen full of rage and being irreparably damaged while fighting off the solders. His body can't heal, after all. He'd probably just be desperate to feel anything. Maybe he'd be so badly damaged that he'd be forced onto Flat Holm Island from Adrift.
Maybe Ianto wouldn't have been able to look at Jack in the same way after his grandson. Or be killed defending his niece and nephew.
TORCHWOOD UA-cam CHANNEL WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO US
Jack's curse of immortality :(((
Man... still can't watch after 18:00
One of the biggest reasons the series can't come back .. it wouldnt be the same without the original cast..
Ianto 😢😭
Wait a minute.. they gettin high off kids?! Ah hell no!
The doctor yelling at a child to stop it will never get old. (before any nerds come yelling at me saying it's not him as the doctor. I know. It's a joke. remember those.)
This is so depressing 😭
Did I just see Peter Calpadi?!😱 16:15
Now that I think about it, where is the Doctor at this point? This was in 2009, so he is either busy with the Planet of the Dead, or is on Mars trying to stop some water zombies.
People, what do you think about the "Miracle Day" arc?
@Quinn Thomas According to the wiki page for "the blessing" there was a tiny explanation for that in one episode. "Jack speculated that the Blessing was something spoken of in a Silurian mythology he had heard of from the Doctor, and could have been caused by an interaction with the huon particles of the Racnoss hibernation field, but was forced to admit he had no idea what had created it"
It's not much better, but it's something. It was really odd how it never had much of an explanation though, since it was such a massive object that was also directly tied to the human race
@Quinn Thomas Oh yeah, I wasn't disputing that at all. There were some cool ideas but it was done really badly
It wasn’t too bad, but far too long. If it was 5 parts it’d be way better.
@@kaiishere016 I think as science fiction fans we get obsessed with explanations and sometimes explanations can come at a cost to storytelling. I was fine accepting that The Blessing was something unknowable to humans
@@timelordrock2954 I believe they might have been intimidated by how well-regarded COE was that they tried to go bigger and it ended up Backfiring!🤷
how the hell did they salvage the vortex manipulator from the wreckage of torchwood base if it was ON JACK'S WRIST when he blew up???
Wait, just a doubt: Jack's daugther, is she immortal too?
it's not a bloodline thing; he was specifically brought back to life forever by Rose.
Jack had two minutes till he blew up why didn't he not go up the elevator and run into the Welsh osian and blew up there and uanto and Gwen do something about the hub where it appeared to have blown up this is the question that keeps on bothering me
The blast radius was 1 mile, it would’ve caused a tidal wave - you also couldn’t know if anyone was working on boats etc
Peter capaldie is in here
Children of the Damned. The Chrysalids.
Weird choice of moments. I wold've chosen way differently.
Got give credit where it's due. The BBC and anything sci-fi don't mix well, given the budget they managed make an armed vehicle chase involving a forklift into something exciting 🤣😇
The worst wasn't that the 456 wished 10 percent of the children, the worst is that the humans decided to give them the children. I really agree with Gwen's speech about the Doctor in Day Four.
It was in day 5
@@2million_like_head425 what was her speech about the doctor?
@@itsinviscitellal it was where Gwen wondered why the Doctor didn't appear at times like the events in COE, but she thought that it was because he must look at the way the government handled the situation and look away in shame
You and your neighbors have 10 kids. If you do not give up one of the kids, you, your wife, your neighbors and their wives, and all 10 kids will die. Everyone will die, or one child will suffer.
It's an impossible choice. Jack sacrificed one child, his own grandson, to save that 10%. He made an impossible choice that saved tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of lives. He sure doesn't feel like the hero for that, but those tens/hundreds of thousands get to live their lives.
@@ger5565 And then what do you do when the 456 come back for another 10%? When do you finally say "NO"??
