A huge difference between the 2 species is that in the early 1980s, three chipmunks named Alvin, Simon, & Theodore formed a very popular musical trio & starred in their own television show under the management of their adoptive father, Dave Seville.
I actually had a pet squirrel for a while. I raised him since he was a baby. They make interesting pets, but honestly, they're better off in the wild. He had a tendency to climb up and knock over things in the house. And though he never bit me, he could scratch you like a goddamn wolverine. In the end, I ended up releasing him. He hung around for a while until I think he integrated with the wild, or maybe a hawk ate him. I'm sure he's long gone now and maybe has descendants out there. I named him Jumping Jack.
02:30 I absolutely loved how the video explained the adaptability of squirrels across various environments! It's fascinating how these critters can survive in so many places, from forests to our own backyards.
Chipmunks are also much braver than other Squirrels. You can get a wild chipmunk to eat from your hands in about an hour while it will take several days for tree squirrels. We have black squirrels, red squirrels and chipmunks where I live. The Chipmunks are often at my feet looking up at me with their cute little faces asking for food. And of course, I can't resist them. 🐿🐿🐿
Squirrels are just rats with fluffy tails... we have them in abundance where I live and they have zero fear... they'll play chicken with you while you're driving. Again, rats with fluffy tails! I wish we had chipmunks...❤ Our squirrels have been known to bite the light bulbs off of the light strings and bury them everywhere; we've been finding bulbs ALL over our backyard for years now!!
Where I live there is a variant of the grey squirrel, the white squirrel. They are not albino. Apparently they are extremely rare but I see them daily on my walks. They are a mascot of my village.
I'm not convinced squirrels have great vision. This is based on observing how they react when they are in the street and I approach on a bicycle. The position of their eyes would also limit depth perception.
As a korean american, i have to be prepared every time i go to korea to visit my family. 27° doesn't mean freezing. It means quite warm. What is that like 80° here? 😅
Your video is incorrect, there is no difference, chipmunks (subtribe Tamiina) are squirrels, squirrels are defined by the family Sciuridae as a whole, squirrels (family Sciuridae) are the only extant family in the superfamily Sciuroidea and are split into three recognized subfamilies: Sciurinae (Tree Squirrels), Marmotinae (Ground Squirrels), and Pteromyinae (Flying Squirrels) Tree squirrels (family Sciuridae) are split into two groups being the tribes Sciurini (Old World Tree Squirrels) and Alopecomyini (New World Tree Squirrels) with the former being split into the subtribes Sciurina (Palearctic Tree Squirrels), Callosciurina (Oriental Tree Squirrels), and Protoxerina (African Tree Squirrels) and the latter being split into the subtribes Alopecomyina (Nearctic Tree Squirrels), Guerlinguetina (Greater Neotropical Tree Squirrels), and Microsciurina (Lesser Neotropical Tree Squirrels) Ground squirrels (subfamily Marmotinae) are split into two groups being the tribes Tamiini (New World Ground Squirrels) and Marmotini (Old World Ground Squirrels), with the former being split into the subtribes Urocitellina (Primitive New World Ground Squirrels), Otospermophilina (New World Rock Squirrels and Relatives), Ammospermophilina (Antelope Squirrels and Relatives), and Tamiina (Chipmunks) and the latter being split into the subtribes Sciurotamiina (Old World Rock Squirrels and Relatives), Spermophilina (Spermophiles and Relatives), Xerina (African Ground Squirrels), and Marmotina (Marmots and Prairie Dogs) Flying squirrels (subfamily Pteromyinae) are split into two groups being the tribes Petauristini (Indomalayan Flying Squirrels) and Pteromyini (Holarctic Flying Squirrels) with the former being split into the subtribes Pteromyscina (Smoky Flying Squirrel and Relatives), Petaurillina (Pygmy Flying Squirrels and Relatives), and Petauristina (Giant Flying Squirrels and Relatives) and the latter being split into the subtribes Priapomyina (Himalayan Large-Eared Flying Squirrel and Relatives), Eupetaurina (Woolly Flying Squirrels and Complex-Toothed Flying Squirrel), and Pteromyina (Northern Dwarf Flying Squirrels, New World Flying Squirrels, and Relatives) Chipmunks (subtribe Tamiina) belong to the tribe Tamiini (New World Grond Squirrels) along with most other genera of ground squirrels (subfamily Marmotinae) that are primarily or exclusively native to North America or originated exclusively from that continent
What exactly was incorrect in the video? You repeated much of the same information that was in the video, including that chipmunks are ground squirrels.

This was EXACTLY the comment I was looking for.😂
I preferred the “knock off” version of Melvin and the Squirrels
😂😂😂👏👏👏
1960s, not 1980s
I used to watch them on TV, and I had a couple of their records.

Chipmunks are Disney. Squirrels are Marvel. 😊
Disney owns both.
The Bagdasarian family doesn’t like it either. Also Marvel isn’t the only company with a squirrel like superhero because DC has CHP the green lantern.
02:30 I absolutely loved how the video explained the adaptability of squirrels across various environments! It's fascinating how these critters can survive in so many places, from forests to our own backyards.
Squirrels cause more damage than Chipmunks. And the Red Squirrels around here are absolutely omnivore. I've seen them eating other dead squirrels.
Yeah that claim about them being herbivorous is bunk.
They eat mice and bugs
In the northeast US at least. Chipmunks will damage your foundation, while squirrels will not. So YMMV.
They're rats with cute haircuts.
Eating meat will help them get a bigger brain like our ancestord
I once saw a squirrel do parkour. It was running, jumped, kicked off one tree to land on another and scurried up that tree. Crazy shit
So chipmunks are ground squirrels with racing stripes!
Glad you didn't use the scary music on this video because we don't need to be scared of chipmunks and squirrels.

Tree rats and ground rats are all cat food.
And the feline parasites are coyote food.

If you put a chipmunk in a pokeball it will eventually turn into a squirrel.
5:05 Tails will also curve over the body like a parasol
They're both cute until they get into your house and cause $1000s of damage.
Thanks!
You forgot to mention squirrel will eat snakes too.
What type of snakes
My Australian cousin hadn’t seen squirrels when she visited me in the U.S. So I guess the introduction had not been too successful.
I'm not convinced squirrels have great vision. This is based on observing how they react when they are in the street and I approach on a bicycle. The position of their eyes would also limit depth perception.
There are no Squirrels in New Zealand 🐿
As a korean american, i have to be prepared every time i go to korea to visit my family. 27° doesn't mean freezing. It means quite warm. What is that like 80° here? 😅
Your pronunciation of "herbivorous" is certainly one way that word coild be pronounced.
Gonna hafta look up the difference between herbivorous and herbervorous. The latter term is a new one for me.
Chipmunks are Catholic while squirrels are Protestant.
I mean, they are chip MONKS"
Looked like some 13striped ground squirrels
Answer me this!
How many chucks could a woodchuck chuck???
Answer: 5 chucks!
“Hey, you woodchucks! Quit chuckin my wood!” (Old Geico commercial)

Big bushy tail.
DO. 🐕 & 🐺...
Squirrels are a menace. I can hear them in my crawl spaces. I hate them
you are the squirrel master. they adore your nice house to store nuts in. you should ask them for rent.
Pellet guns are legal in cities.
If squirrels are your bigest problem your blessed
Stew....
Ive eat squirrels. Wonder what rat and chipmunk taste like.
They both turn inside out when hit by a high velocity pellet.
Chipmunks are better singers.
Herbivorous, not Herbervorous. Aarre Peltomaa
What is the difference between animals and horses? What a stupid premise
Tree rats.
AI images and voiceover are crap. Sadly I will have to avoid your channel in the future.
