This reminds me of a dog we had as a kid. We left town for one day and he chewed up an upholstered chair. My mother was furious but it was the funniest thing ever. He would not come into the living room even if you prompted him with treats. He refused to be in the vicinity of the crime.

If a dog builds crap, you have to inform him immediately of this misconduct, otherwise he cannot relate the reproof to his previously made mistake.

If a person reacts aggressively, the dog automatically goes into this submission position (provided the dog is in this pack under the person who scolds).
The sideways glance as well as the short standing does not result from the dog feeling guilty but from the social behavior of dogs.
Direct eye contact (exact staring) is a gesture of aggression among dogs, averting the gaze serves to appease.
The occasional eye contact is used to check whether the state of aggression is still present.
Experiments have shown that dogs are unable to feel guilty, at least not in the form described here.

Yes, they are smarter than humans give them credit for! It's not mirroring, for the fact that he KNEW EXACTLY when the question was asked!? People truly are the dumb ones, saying it's mirroring! There was a dog that I watched once, that knew EVERY stuffed animal by name! Obviously not a guess!

I am laughing my fanny off right now! The second doggie "Argo" decides that wagging his tail 100 mph and rolling over to show his belly is his best defense! LOL! Maple at 2:57 just killed me! I only WISH I could understand doggie talk because apparently she had a LOT to say about that chewed up tissue! The two Black Labs, however, literally made me laugh so hard I ALMOST fell out of my chair! He just threw her right UNDER that bus! Not a moment of hesitation!!! RFLOL!!! At 5:15, poor Spike has no shame! Spike has no where to go and nothing to say............as he sits there with evidence stuck to his mouth! OMD!!! Then when the camera panned to Heidi at 6:40, her body language said it all......dropped shoulders, head hung, the whole ball of wax! GUILTY! LOL! This is probably THE BEST of all the animal "Sorry not sorry" video's I have EVER seen! ALL the dogs were AWESOME!! Thank you SO MUCH for posting it!

+Catherine Savage Yes, the black lab who blamed his sister -- REPEATEDLY -- was the best! Laughed out loud again & again (made the cats stare at me & wonder "what the puck?"). And Spike, of course, only realized belatedly that he had the evidence stuck to his mouth. Oops! The little Boston terrier at the end (or whatever he was) who's chewed to unrecognizability some piece of furniture: his owner comes home & gets the dog's attention, & the little dog looks up, says "so what" & goes off to get a drink (all that stuffing clearly made him thirsty). No guilt there at all. Brazen!
There's one thing I've noticed after watching so many "Guilty Dog" videos and it's this: PUGS DON'T GIVE A DAMN!

My first dog was a rescued pup. I got him to trust me and he followed me home, to eat some bologna. I convinced my folks to let us keep him. He was over 20lbs underweight and had been on the streets of Seattle for over a month, according to the Veterinarian Doctor. Well, we had had him for about a year, when, one day, I came home from school to find my mothers 2 year old silver crushed velvet couch literally torn to shreds. I knew my folks were going to be beyond angry over this, so before they got home from work, I hid Max in my room and went to face some music, on behalf of my dog. My dad hit the roof, as did my mom; both of them threatening to get rid of Max and I just broke down and started crying, begging them not to make my dog go. Well, it wasn't until many years later that I found out that my folks never had any intention of making Max leave, but, until my parents got a new couch, we all had to be reminded that Max was a bad boy that day. It was the only thing he ever destroyed and I never did understand just why he did it, in the first place. I really miss that boy. He was my best friend from 8 years old until he got cancer, when I was 19. Since then, I have had one dog eat my aluminum front door, one dog got stuck in my bedroom and tore the carpet up where the door was, trying to get himself out of the room. I won't even go into all the shoes that my dogs have chewed on, over the years. Ahhhhhh......For the love of animals........................... =)

About two decades ago, I had a pair of yellow Labs (siblings just over two) who managed to tear apart roughly eight garden hoses in a single summer, including a few of the heavy-duty variety. Thankfully, they got over their hose-chewing phase, but nothing could stop their penchant for getting into that yummy smelling garbage! XD
LOL.....I love your story! You also just reminded me about one year, when I went to hook up the hose to wash the car and when I turned on the hose, it had spouts of water coming out all down the length of the hose. I first thought I had hooked up the yard hose, that does have the holes already in it, like a sprinkler. Well, the hose turned out to be one of my more recent dog's masterpieces. I don't enjoy the garbage monsters, but, once in a while, the dog I have now, who just turned 10 years old, has her fun, going through the trash, She didn't start doing this, until about a year ago. If you ever get a solution to the garbage monster syndrome, please let me know, so I can get rid of the one here! =) Have a great weekend, Ebony! =)
solarpurplestarlight You had a hose-eater, too, eh? Regarding GMS (garbage monster syndrome), there's a spray you can get at just about any pet store that's meant to deter puppies from chewing on things they aren't meant to. I don't know if it would work with a trashcan, but it's worth a shot.
+solarpurplestarlight I can relate to your garden hose story! I had a beautiful Border Collie for 16 years who simply hated snakes! To her, the garden hose was a MONSTER SNAKE! Every single time she got near it, she went berserk and attacked it! I used to keep it on a circular stand and keep it rolled up. It didn't take her long to figure out she could "make the snake come alive" by grabbing the end of the hose and running, causing it to come off the reel. I spent a lot of money in duct tape, that's for sure! RFLOL!!!

Dogs can understand a big number of words, even some phrases too. 3:33 is a great example. And yes, they are the only animal (scientifically demonstrated) that can "read" our faces and know how we feel. Dogs are awesome :)

I could watch these videos all day. It's funny because my cat acts this way when he knows he did something wrong. A couple of times he's told on himself by his body language, facial expressions and the way he talks, lol.

@@adhaincroi Can tell you've never owned a dog. They might not feel guilt on a complex level like us, but they certainly know what would displease you, what is wrong and if they have done that thing and possibly earn your ire.
In legal terms they have a "mens rhea" I think they call it? (the sensation of guilt/guilty conscience)

One of my best friend, Mongu passed away on 2 May 2016. He was born in our house and was over 9 and a half years old and was more human than a human being. He didn't do any breaking, tearing, etc. except for once when his younger brothers were born. He was older to them and while they were puppies, they had the time of their life when the house was empty. They pulled down bed sheets,pillows from beds and even pulled down the landline phone which may have rung. If by a miracle, Mongu comes back with the intent of breaking, tearing, etc and be with me again, he is very very much welcome to do so; a happiness which I only know. I missed you Mongu.
