Had this exact 1982 450cc bike in purple (with windshield). Rode it all over Northern California back in 1989. What a blast it was, and it does handle like a dream and is super comfy. Try to keep your 200 pound buddies off the back...it'll drag her down.
Great set of videos! Thanks for making them. I just got gifted an 85 nighthawk that hasn’t been run for two years and your videos are gonna help me a lot when I pick it up next week
I love my 86. I bought it for $300 in peices basically. It's my daily rider now and still rips for a nearly 38 year old 450. Mfg date of Sept 85 puts it only a few months younger than me.
I love the round headlight. I think the 650s are the a rectangular ones that I can't get myself to like. I'm not a big polish guy myself and my favorites are the 91+ Nighthawk 750s. Nice thumbnail, was it created in MS Paint hahahaha 👊
That was my first bike. The exact same colors and all. I rode it as my primary transport for two years of high school. I miss that bike. I like my BMW and Road Glide but still miss my old Nighthawk.
My 86 averages 40mpg with an everyday 75+mph highway commute. Top speed I have reached on GPS was 100mph. Really love this bike. It's just so comfortable to ride and very reliable.
Yep!...goes like a Rocket...all that polishing must have been worth an extra 5mph..lol...new tyres and it might be good for a 14sec...90mph run on the Drag-Strip...Anyway a Good job well done as with all your projects...
Lost you for a while glad I found you again. Like when people get an old bike going again, Honda engineering she'll be ready to go touring when you get her all sorted out. Put some new tires on that thing!!!
Later models had a speedo that went to 110. My top speed I have felt comfortable doing was 100mph but it felt there was still a bit more to give up top.

My first street bike in 1984. Rode it everywhere for about 3 years. The venerable Honda twin was smooth as silk.

Found one of these in my area and I’m so excited now! I haven’t even seen it 😂. I will definitely be using these videos to get it running
You'll really like it, they are cool bikes!

I just found a 86 in a shed in Boston. Hasn’t moved in 30+ years. Got it going already just waiting for spring to test it out
She she looks brand new!,
That thing runs great, peg it at 80 that quick with at 450 is good. It should be capable of 60mpg on top of that. I would say keepher.
Thanks! It's getting there could still fine tune a little more.
