Hiking! - The Sandias

On the 18th of May, 2024, as part of my outstanding odyssey to Albuquerque and Denver, Brother Wilhelm and I (and Murph the dog!) hiked up into the Sandias.
We parked the car at the Cedarbrook Trailhead at Cedarbrook Ave NE then got a ride to Tierra Montanosa Dr NE where we took the nearest trail and headed east and up into the Sandias. There are many many trails that crisscross these gorgeous mountains which are literally in the back yard of the houses there. We kept climbing out of the shadow of the rising sun till we got to Whitewash Trail. From there we went north crossing a couple of ridges till we came to Sunset Canyon and descended along the south ridge popping out at the Cedarbrook Trailhead to get into the car.

It was a challenging hike for vertical both up and down but wow what a great go! The views of Albuquerque and the entire Rio Grande valley were spectacular and the conditions were perfect. Best of all, not only did I get to do a hike with my hiking buddy from 30 years ago, but we also had Murph! Winning!
Do you hear that? It’s the trail calling…
