I was so sad they were only on for one hour this year but the lads did look kind of knackered from their tour. They did great as always though hope they return next year
I think people woefully underestimate just how difficult a thing it is to give it all and sing on your own in a room of other people. There's something so much more comfortable, and assuring, about singing with other people. I mention that just because I want to give a bit of kudos to those who try it, it can be such a hill to climb.
When you sing with other people, you can copy their notes and pitch your voice just too quiet to be heard when you balls it up. When you're on your own you don't have the camouflage.

Hoist Up The Thing Lyrics Fresh out of college, with grades straight from Hell, I browsed for a trade at which I could excel. An ad for a ship in need of some manning, Men, sails, and purpose, but lacking a captain. What luck, says I, to find such good fortune! A few white lies later, I ran down the pier. Bought me a coat and a cutlass or two, Jumped on the deck, and I yelled at the crew: (Chorus) Hoist up the thing! Batten down the whatsit! What's that thing spinning? Somebody should stop it! Turn hard to port! (That's not port?) Now I've got it! Trust me, I'm in control! I can’t sing the shanties, it has to be said, And all of that grog just goes right to my head. Whale meat is gross and I miss a girl’s laugh. Five weeks at sea, even Dave seems a catch! (Chorus) Hoist up the thing! Batten down the whatsit! What's that thing spinning? Somebody should stop it! Turn hard to port! (That's not port?) Now I've got it! Trust me, I'm in control! We’ve hit icy waters, no land to be seen. The food’s getting low and the beer has gone green. There’s murmurs of discontent under the deck. If I don’t act fast, it could be my neck! So pull up the charts and those weird gold machines I see what it says but no clue what it means! Just pull on some levers and yank on some chains, Feign a bad back 'til we’ve landed again. (Chorus) Hoist up the thing! Batten down the whatsit! What's that thing spinning? Somebody should stop it! Turn hard to port! (That's not port?) Now I've got it! Trust me, I'm in control! (Chorus) Hoist up the thing! Batten down the whatsit! What's that thing spinning? Somebody should stop it! Turn hard to port! (That's not port?) Now I've got it! Trust me, I'm in control! (Chorus) Hoist up the thing! Batten down the whatsit! What's that thing spinning? Somebody should stop it! Turn hard to port! (That's not port?) Now I've got it! Trust me, I'm in control! (Final Chorus) Hoist up the thing! Batten down the whatsit! (Huh?) What's that thing spinning? Somebody should stop it! (BLOODY HELL!) Turn hard to port! (This is SHERRY!) Now I've got it! (Screaming) Trust me, I'm in control! (MUMMY) Trust me, I'm in control!

Circle of Life Lyrics From the day we arrive on the planet And, blinking, step into the sun There's more to see than can ever be seen More to do than can ever be done There's far too much to take in here More to find than can ever be found But the sun rolling high Through the sapphire sky Keeps great and small on the endless round It's the circle of life And it moves us all Through despair and hope Through faith and love 'Til we find our place On the path unwinding In the circle The circle of life
Drunken Sailor Lyrics From Tortuga's port we put to sea And sailed for sixteen days In the biggest storm I'd ever seen We almost lost our way When a call came from a deckhand "Boys, I think she's going down But don't you fear, there's enough rum here To drink until we drown!" Ho! What shall we do with a drunken sailor? What shall we do with a drunken sailor? What shall we do with a drunken sailor? Ear-lie in the morning Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Ear-lie in the morning So this deckhand grabbed a barrel Broke the seal and took a swig And soon their screams turned into songs Their panicked work turned into jigs The first mate bellowed orders Ever trying to save their skins "Any drunken retch the captain catch He'll beat all limb from limb!" Ho! What shall we do with a drunken sailor? What shall we do with a drunken sailor? What shall we do with a drunken sailor? Ear-lie in the morning Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Ear-lie in the morning Every man continued drinking All their duties long forgot They were deaf to every order 'Til they heard a pistol shot The captain stood on fo'c'stle Swung the cat above his head "Back to yer post or by my ghost Ye'll wish that ye were dead!" Ho! What shall we do with a drunken sailor? What shall we do with a drunken sailor? What shall we do with a drunken sailor? Ear-lie in the morning Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Ear-lie in the morning Every drunk received a beating Some of the drunker managed two The captain kept an eye Until he'd sobered up his crew He then retired to quarters Put the rum upon his shelf Sat in his seat, put up his feet And drank the rest himself! Ho! What shall we do with a drunken sailor? What shall we do with a drunken sailor? What shall we do with a drunken sailor? Ear-lie in the morning Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray) Ear-lie in the morning Put him in the longboat 'til he's sober Shave his belly with a rusty razor Throw him in the hold with the captain's daughter Ear-lie in the morning
Bones in the Ocean Lyrics Oh, I bid farewell to the port and the land And I paddle away from Brave England's white sands To search for my long ago forgotten friends To search for the place I hear all sailors end As the souls of the dead fill the space of my mind I'll search without sleeping til' peace I can find I fear not the weather, I fear not the sea I remember the fallen, do they think of me? When their bones in the ocean, forever will be Plot a course to the night, to a place I once knew To a place where my hope died along with my crew So I swallow my grief and face life's final test T' find promise of peace and the solace of rest As the souls of the dead fill the space of my ears Their laughter like children, their beckoning cheers My heart longs to join them, sing songs of the sea I remember the fallen, do they think of me? When their bones in the ocean, forever will be When at last, before my ghostly shipmates I stand I shed a small tear for my home upon land Though their eyes speak of depths filled with struggle and strife Their smiles below say I don't owe them my life As the souls of the dead fill the space of my eyes And my boat listed over and tried to capsize I'm this far from drowning, this far from the sea I remember the living, do they think of me? When my bones in the ocean, forever will be Now that I'm staring down at the darkest abyss I'm not sure what I want, but I don't think it's this As my comrades call to stand fast and forge on I make sail for the dawn until the darkness has gone As the souls of the dead live fore'er in my mind As I live all the years that they left me behind I'll stay on the shore but still gaze at the sea I remember the fallen and they think of me For our souls in the ocean, together we'll be I remember the fallen and they think of me For our souls in the ocean Together we'll be
Excited to see Daf sing again this upcoming Jingle Jam! He was always a standout on the Jingle Jam Karaoke stream until Twitch changed its copyright policies.
YES! THE BEAUTIFUL JOHNS!! Got to see The Johns live in Edinburgh this year and they're such lovely folks. Love this Marvel-esque multiverse crossover♥️
Northwest Passage had me in actual tears, it was such a great experience. I normally ain't much for music livestreams during Jingle Jam but I'm extremely glad that I tuned in to this one for the whole experience. Thank you Longest Johns for bringing this absolutely beautiful stream to the Jingle Jam.
I was really happy we got another stream with the lads, even though it was only an hour. Also, Briony's voice adds so much to the song and is frankly really beautiful ❤️
Daf's Circle of Life was amazing- and the opening to that was KILLER. I remember getting chills live, and holy shit just now wanted to post a comment. wtf, Daf.
I really identify with the first song. I was hired as a Subject Matter Expert for a charity and have about 50 agents constantly sending me questions about orders and stuff. I was never trained and dont know anything about this company
I was so sad they were only on for one hour this year but the lads did look kind of knackered from their tour. They did great as always though hope they return next year
I was at their gig the night before in Liverpool. Not surprised they were shattered, took me about two days to recover.
Bless their hearts for stopping by anyway.
this version of 'Oak and Ash and Thorn' is so...
Filled! Their voices completely dominated the wholeness for me

I know this is a year old, but I only now noticed the confusion on Andy, Dave & Robbies faces when JD goes up @ 43:25 , pure gold 😂
I could watch a 6 hour stream of this. Fantastic! And holy heck Briony was incredible! She and Daf and Loli added so much to the ensemble!

Fairytale of New York Lyrics
[Voice 1]
It was Christmas Eve, babe, in the drunk tank
An old man said to me, "Won't see another one"
And then he sang a song, 'The Rare Old Mountain Dew'
I turned my face away and dreamed about you
[Voice 1]
Got on a lucky one, came in eighteen-to-one
I've got a feeling this year's for me and you
So, Happy Christmas, I love you, baby
I can see a better time when all our dreams come true
[Voice 2]
They've got cars big as bars, they've got rivers of gold
But the wind goes right through you, it's no place for the old
When you first took my hand on a cold Christmas Eve
You promised me Broadway was waiting for me
[Voice 2]
You were handsome
[Voice 1]
You were pretty, queen of New York City
[Both]
When the band finished playing, they howled out for more
Sinatra was swinging, all the drunks, they were singing
We kissed on a corner, then danced through the night
[Both]
The boys of the NYPD choir
Were singing, "Galway Bay"
And the bells were ringing out
For Christmas Day
[Voice 2]
You're a bum, you're a punk
[Voice 1]
You’re an old slut on junk
Lying there almost dead on a drip in that bed
[Voice 2]
You scumbag, you maggot, you cheap, lousy *CARROT*
Happy Christmas, your arse, I pray God it's our last
[Both]
The boys of the NYPD choir
Still singing, "Galway Bay"
And the bells are ringing out
For Christmas Day
[Voice 1]
"I could have been someone"
[Voice 2]
Well, so could anyone
You took my dreams from me when I first found you
[Voice 1]
I kept them with me, babe, I put them with my own
Can't make it all alone, I've built my dreams around you
[Both]
The boys of the NYPD choir
Still singing, "Galway Bay"
And the bells are ringing out
For Christmas Day
Circle of Life Lyrics
From the day we arrive on the planet
And, blinking, step into the sun
There's more to see than can ever be seen
More to do than can ever be done
There's far too much to take in here
More to find than can ever be found
But the sun rolling high
Through the sapphire sky
Keeps great and small on the endless round
It's the circle of life
And it moves us all
Through despair and hope
Through faith and love
'Til we find our place
On the path unwinding
In the circle
The circle of life
Drunken Sailor Lyrics
From Tortuga's port we put to sea
And sailed for sixteen days
In the biggest storm I'd ever seen
We almost lost our way
When a call came from a deckhand
"Boys, I think she's going down
But don't you fear, there's enough rum here
To drink until we drown!"
Ho!
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
Ear-lie in the morning
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Ear-lie in the morning
So this deckhand grabbed a barrel
Broke the seal and took a swig
And soon their screams turned into songs
Their panicked work turned into jigs
The first mate bellowed orders
Ever trying to save their skins
"Any drunken retch the captain catch
He'll beat all limb from limb!"
Ho!
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
Ear-lie in the morning
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Ear-lie in the morning
Every man continued drinking
All their duties long forgot
They were deaf to every order
'Til they heard a pistol shot
The captain stood on fo'c'stle
Swung the cat above his head
"Back to yer post or by my ghost
Ye'll wish that ye were dead!"
Ho!
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
Ear-lie in the morning
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Ear-lie in the morning
Every drunk received a beating
Some of the drunker managed two
The captain kept an eye
Until he'd sobered up his crew
He then retired to quarters
Put the rum upon his shelf
Sat in his seat, put up his feet
And drank the rest himself!
Ho!
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
What shall we do with a drunken sailor?
Ear-lie in the morning
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Hoo-ray and up she rises (Hoo-ray)
Ear-lie in the morning
Put him in the longboat 'til he's sober
Shave his belly with a rusty razor
Throw him in the hold with the captain's daughter
Ear-lie in the morning
Bones in the Ocean Lyrics
Oh, I bid farewell to the port and the land
And I paddle away from Brave England's white sands
To search for my long ago forgotten friends
To search for the place I hear all sailors end
As the souls of the dead fill the space of my mind
I'll search without sleeping til' peace I can find
I fear not the weather, I fear not the sea
I remember the fallen, do they think of me?
When their bones in the ocean, forever will be
Plot a course to the night, to a place I once knew
To a place where my hope died along with my crew
So I swallow my grief and face life's final test
T' find promise of peace and the solace of rest
As the souls of the dead fill the space of my ears
Their laughter like children, their beckoning cheers
My heart longs to join them, sing songs of the sea
I remember the fallen, do they think of me?
When their bones in the ocean, forever will be
When at last, before my ghostly shipmates I stand
I shed a small tear for my home upon land
Though their eyes speak of depths filled with struggle and strife
Their smiles below say I don't owe them my life
As the souls of the dead fill the space of my eyes
And my boat listed over and tried to capsize
I'm this far from drowning, this far from the sea
I remember the living, do they think of me?
When my bones in the ocean, forever will be
Now that I'm staring down at the darkest abyss
I'm not sure what I want, but I don't think it's this
As my comrades call to stand fast and forge on
I make sail for the dawn until the darkness has gone
As the souls of the dead live fore'er in my mind
As I live all the years that they left me behind
I'll stay on the shore but still gaze at the sea
I remember the fallen and they think of me
For our souls in the ocean, together we'll be
I remember the fallen and they think of me
For our souls in the ocean
Together we'll be
