I have a pocket 3 and was curious as to the "MAJOR FLAW" you were talking about. I've had mine for about a month and have tested most of the modes. I can agree that the low-light mode is OK. It basically boosts the ISO to accommodate for the low light. But it can become grainy as you pointed out. I think it best to set to auto and adjust the ISO to your taste. Also, you mentioned how big the camera gets with the battery grip attached. I haven't used my battery grip once yet. I don't think some people understand what this accessory is for. It is meant to be a battery "bank". If you're out shooting and your battery runs low, you plug in the battery extension, and it empties into the pocket 3. Once it's fully charged, you take the extension off for a recharge. I've seen videos of people who just plugged in the battery extension and left it. Only to discover the next day that it had drained. The point being that it is not meant to be left plugged in. I realize how limited the camera is, but I like the form factor, and the ease of use. It can be used for many types of video and is very quick to set up. Thanks for the video, but I can't agree that these things are "MAJOR FLAWS"

Hi, RichMaza. Appreciate your feedback on using the DJI Osmo Pocket 3. Installing the Wide-Angle Lens will not affect the device entering Storage Mode once powered off. When DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is powered off and enters Storage Mode, the lens will first rotate inwards. The wide-angle lens touches the axis arm lightly and then rotates in the opposite direction to the screen. This is the same for both the Black Mist Filter and ND filter. Once done, it can be stored in the protective case.
We value customers who provide their feedback. Rest assured that we'll communicate it with the respective team for its potential. We are grateful for sharing your opinions with us. Thank you for choosing DJI.

The point I’m trying to make in this video, though, is that the camera lens will not rotate into storage mode with a filter on. Which is a flaw in the design of either the filter, which isn’t skinny enough to fit, or the design of the Gimble head as there is not enough room to fit with a filter on. Which means you would have to remove the filter every time you want to turn it off and put the filter back every time you want to turn it on, which is very inconvenient. if I’m carrying a camera like the pocket three, I’m using it on the go, and the last thing you are going to want to do is fumble around with filters, or losing them when you were on the go. Yes, they can be stored in the cover, but it’s not the same thing as leaving the wide angle filter on the lens and using it all day long if you want to be using that. Perhaps something that can be fixed in the Osmo pocket 4 design as if you keep a filter on there, it is not really protecting the camera head. And the filter can fall off if bumped. And then the lens can be scratched. Like I said. I think it’s a major flaw in the design. Thank you for your response.

just release a wide-angle lens with magnets on the front so we can stack ND filters. thanks.@@DJISupportGlobal

It would help to extend the arm just a mm or so to allow room to store with the filter remaining on the camera.
I think most people would except a mm or two larger camera for the ability to leave their preferred lens on the camera while in the case.

facial tracking doesn't work in low light mode because the tracking algorithm needs a certain amount of light to work effectively. it has nothing to do with updating firmware. it's the technical constraints of the sensor. you can test this yourself by going into a low light area whilst in normal mode and then test how less responsive the active tracking becomes depending on the amount of light available.

agreed. that’s a significant flaw☹️ who removes their filter whenever turning off a device?! i just got my combo kit but haven’t tried the included filter yet

I was going to say, when you tested the low light performance in the parking lot, the regular mode actually seemed of higher quality and more usable (after processing in post) than the footage from the low light mode. I have my Pocket on order and should arrive in a few more days, really hoping it's every bit as good as you demonstrated. You did a wicked job on this review, keep up the great work!!

if you want to protect the camera lens, just get a UV filter. it doesn't really do anything noticeable but protect the lens despite its name. I always use them on my regular cameras.

    • @RichMaza
      @RichMaza  7 місяців тому

That’s fine, but due to the design, flaw, or oversight, even if you put on a UV filter it’s magnetic and can come off when not use because the camera head is not protected when turned off. With a filter on. My point is it should have been designed to still protect the camera, head and lens with a filter on rather than having to remove the filter every single time.

I've seen some really gorgeous low-light footage from some other Pocket 3 users, without the grain or distortion. I'm wondering if you were in an even darker place than they were? Or if they had their cameras on some specific setting after having gotten used to them for a time. Did your low-light footage look better after using it since a month ago? Thanks!

That is the first time I've seen anyone mention the issue with the filters preventing the camera turning off. That is a really good point. What a tremendous oversight, especially when DJI include a filter in the box - everyone will have this issue!
To my eyes, the black mist filter makes it look like there's a smude on my glasses or something. It has some cool blooming effects on lighting, but only if there's a candle or lamp in the shot. It's not something I'd like to use all the time, but could create some artistic scenes.
I definitely noticed a difference when you turned the sharpness down to -2. My personally preference would probably be somewhere around -1 with adding any extra in post if needed - but overall still a fantastic picture.
Great review, thanks for the video!

U put the lens on after you turn on the cam and out when before you turn it off. That's how it's been since the first pocket. For me, two things now might malfunction w/ the 3. i have the pocket 2 and when cam is turned on, lens would sometimes get stock when it does the self test. Now w/ pocket 3, the screen when flipped, would get stock like not going all the way what others are experiencing. But w/ all this, with the ease of use, it's still a much better vlogging cam than using a bigger cam w/ a gimbal. And w/ the 1inch sensor becomes the best vlogging cam...next to your phone :)

Mic2 audio is much better when using a lav mic, rather than built in mic. Many times I prefer pocket 3 internal mic to capture ambient sounds. The issue with camera filter mounted on gimbal when switching off is old news. So is no face tracking in low light mode. Nothing new.
