I got a 3ds XL and it did not come with AR cards just the console and it's charger and the box

this video is 6 years old. they bought it before the 3ds was discontinued so all major stores still had them in stock back then.
your best bet now is ebay, and everything costs way more sadly.

There's an AR card for playing mini-games, and the character AR cards turn 3D along with the camera app on the 3DS :)
