I have Canon FD 50mm 1.4 S.S.C for couple of years now. I got it for $80. I just love the vintage looks it produces. Some of my videos for my client were shot with it and they absolutely loved it.
I got myself the 50mm F1.4 S.S.C. version of this lens on eBay for 70 Euros right after watching your "Canon FD" documentary last year. Absolutely love it so far!
I’ve used Canon FD 50mm F1.4 SSC and absolutely loved it. It’s compact, sharp, and produces stunning images. So if you can’t afford F1.2 version I can highly recommend 1.4 and you can pick it up for around 100$
@@MediaDivision I’m just jumping into canon FD glass and your channel is a treasure trove of goodness. I may well end up remortgaging or selling a kidney as a direct result though

This is a great idea to run though vintage lens in such a comprehensive and professional way in bite size mini episodes. this will be a good series if it could seem less cut out of a larger video and have it feel more stand alone. I'd watch the hell out it
@@MediaDivision Thanks for the comment. I bought it a few days ago on ebay and the seller send a another one an this one do function with the adapter. Also the Adapter did function with 2 other NFDs. It will be the lense.
We will continue longer form in the future. In our LENS ARCHIVE.m you’ll find “stand alone” versions of every lens we have tested. For your convenience, and for discovery. We start with 14 lenses and add the rest over the next weeks, including the Mamiyas, Contax Zeiss, Ultra Fast Lenses… and of course, lenses we test in the future will be added then. You can find the MEDIA DIVISION LENS ARCHIVE in a playlist of our channel page www.UA-cam.com/mediadivision We have to do things to reach a wider audience, and the last couple of massive episodes show, that long form alone is not the answer. We will also launch an other short form (5min) playlist with all things not lens test related.
@@MediaDivision You should absolutely go down that route, I have to admit that, although I ADORE your longer form videos, I typically have to wait until the weekends to dedicate enough time to sit through them. Many people wouldn't do that, so having smaller bite-sized videos will absolutely attract a larger audience, which you deserve!!!
There are three 55mm f1.2’s. The ssc and aspherical are exactly the same lens. The aspherical Al is the different one that was hand made and hand ground.
@@MediaDivision One version has a "O" in the aperture ring, other version has an "A" I think the "A" version is newer but is there any difference optically?
So out of curiosity, how does the look of these Canon FD 55mm f1.2 lenses compare to the Canon EF 50mm f1.2 lens? What about the Canon EF 50mm f1.0 (assuming you now have access to that one between now and when you recorded the segment where you briefly discussed how expensive it was in the f0.7 episode)? I know that the Canon RF 50mm f1.2 is extremely clinically sharp and has basically none of the Canon FD lens characteristics, but I'm curious if the same is true with EF versions.
I don't use a EF 50mm… any of them.… so, can't give you a sophisticated answer. We can talk about general traits of vintage lenses and some have more, some have less of those. At a higher stop and without the characteristic flares, you will probably not see a difference.
Great man! Wouldn't they be great with the new Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K FF. I'm looking at 28, 50, 85 and 135mm. Do you know if any of these would have vignetting? Saw some posts online and was confused. Plan to get a cheap FD to L adapter. Thanks!
Thanks... all FD lenses are designed for 35mm Full Frame, so non will vignette on a modern Full Frame camera. For video, it makes a lot of sense to get a good sturdy locking adapter.
@@MediaDivision Thank you very much! For my case of wanting to record only my face and neck very closely, looking at the sky and talking to myself, which lens would you recommend?
@@viniciuslanabr a wide one with very good close focus capabilities… probably a macro lens. probably not a vintage lens as AF could be helpful with narrow DoF that you get on super close ups
I have had an exc+ copy of this lens for a few weeks, partly based on your review of FDs, and neither my manual nor my wireless follow focus can handle this lens because the focusing ring although smooth is hard to move. The cog jumps even after tightening all pretty strongly. Is this something usual in these lenses? any workaround? Thank you
@@MediaDivision Thank you, your videos on FD glass are great. I shot with these awesome lenses decades ago with a T90. Looking forward to using them again.
