  • Welcome to Simply Home and Harvest!
    I’m so glad you’re here!!
It’s a super busy week for us but a fun one!
This is our church’s Vacation Bible School week. Tim and I are teaching the Adult class this year.
In all the busyness of the week, the garden is going to have to take a back seat and its sandwiches for dinner.
Join us as we take you along!
Let’s just say this coming week, we have a lot of catch up work to do so stay tuned for that.
    Love and Blessings!
    ~Jen

Wow …80 people for adult VBS❤. We did that in our church one year where the whole family was part of the entire VBS classes . The families loved being together learning together like teams so fun 😊.

@@cindyslittlehouse there aren’t many churches (if any) that offer classes for the adults in our area. They always love it and it gives alot of them somewhere to go while their children are in class.

    The veggie chopper is 👍👍👍.
Victor likes butternut squash in his beef stew. It may be a little warm for it now but he doesn't care. Stew meat, onions, butternut squash, and pears (plus whatever spices you like and beef broth). I buy frozen butternut squash because he would never get it if so had to cut it up 😬
Thankful for a great VBS week!

@@zolaney831 good to know!! Looking forward to trying it out!
Butternut squash and pears….thats an interesting combo. Sounds yummy!!
I haven’t tried to cut into one yet, but my cousin told me that she had found that the ones you grow yourself are a little easier to cut than the store-bought. I am really hoping that is true!!

@@simplyhomeandharvest I put the pears in near the end or they get mushy. Apples work too.

Y'all had a great crowd for VBS. I've only taught toddlers and teenagers in the past. Our VBS was week before last with over 200 little kids accepting Christ. I can't believe your tomatoes. We have gotten 1 and some cherries. It's pitiful here. Even my hydrangeas are looking poorly. We had so much rain and cooler temps and then Texas turned the heat up. I think it shocked everything. Good video girlfriend and you need to let us visit with the chickies again, lol. My fave. And those eggs!!!!!! Have a good week. xoxDeb

PS I'll dig up that butternut squash lasagna recipe I made last year when we had tons of squash. I didn't like it but Mike and my mom did. I don't like much that I cook, lol.

@@thebrodabode73 that is awesome to hear!!! That’s what VBS is all about!! Love it!
I’m so sorry that it’s been such a rough year for you all in the garden. I would love to share some of these tomatoes with you. I am over this heat wave as well. We had a couple of days that it cooled off and we got some much needed rain and then the heat came right back. Almost all of the tomatoes plants are drying up now. By the time August hits, I’m ready to harvest what I can and start focusing on the fall garden. Our pumpkin plants are looking pretty good so far!!
Chicken update is coming soon!! I finished that video right before we left town to get away for a couple of days.
Today we are heading to the NC mountains and I checked the temps this morning…highs in the upper 70s!! 😳🙌
You might find this funny…I had half of a gorgeous tomato left and was adamant to take it with us. I wrapped it up really well and put it in an insulated bag. The kids and Tim make fun of me but I’m that person that will carry my own tomato with me to breakfast. I was so excited to have it this morning with the complimentary hotel breakfast only to find that it had turned into a pile of mush. 🥴
      At least I tried! Haha
Have a blessed day friend!! ❤️

@@simplyhomeandharvest oh NO!!! Bless your heart. When my boys were small we took a trip to Houston and they insisted on bringing their pet praying mantis along. On the way down there, one mantis ate the other one! Except for it's eyes, lol. The kids were devastated. After that we learned it's not always a good idea to take extra stuff along, lol. I do wish I were there for the tomatoes. I missed canning this summer so much but hopefully a fall garden will do better. Many people here in TX say don't bother to plant a summer garden; wait until fall. Although, early spring we seem to get a good harvest of cool crops. We shall pray and see. Have a super weekend. We have two of the grands tonight 6 and 3 so we'll be hopping. The weekend looks pretty good for us. xoxDeb
